Zen Coaster Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 Yeah, I feel bad for the ride op's family but what happened to common sense? ^^ Agreed. When I had my training at Wet'n'Wild, to stress the dangers of not remaining alert, they actually showed a video of when dispatch at a water park was done too quickly and two people had a really horrible collision. It was sickening to watch but hammered the point home; I'll never forget it.
mudvayneimn Posted July 16, 2007 Posted July 16, 2007 The problem is people don't see these rides for what they are. They are machines, that if abused or not paid attention to, can hurt or kill you. People go into parks expecting it to be safe (which it is). But the have the wrong idea of "safe". They don't read the ride safety signs because they think "it wouldn't be open, or there would have already been an accident if it wasn't safe". That would explain why parents with kids that are 1-12 inches too short will try anything to get an operator to permit the child to ride..... While that takes care of the guests stupidity, I really have nothing to explain the operator's. Who in their right mind? This one I can understand since the ride moves really fast, but the accidents like the one at Scream! at SFMM really have me perplexed. I don't remember where at the person was killed, but I don't see how you could not know that a coaster train on a B&M was headed in your direction. IDK, I feel for the parents, but she had an extreme lapse in judgment which unfortunately cost her her life, and also stole the sense of security at amusement parks for a several people.

It was in the "helix" before the corkscrews I believe, and that accident was most likely suicide in my opinion...
