Vekoma Fan Boy Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 I you go and look at EGF's rcdb page, you can see it has had 2 types of trains, the classic intamin hyper trains used on the S:ROSs and the ones used on Goliath and Intamin rockets with the maneuverable zero car. Why did they change it? Did it have something to do with the drop?
40belowbeef Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Not sure which picture you are looking at but as far as I can tell there is no zero car on any of the trains in those pictures. The only Intamin with a 'zero car' that I know of is TTD.
FeelTheFORCE Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Yeah, I see what you mean. Classic Zero Not sure why. Maybe the first drop, like you said, plays a role.
Carnage Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 ^ Both those trains look exactly the same to me. I don't see a zero car on either of them.
haiderodes Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 ^^The shape of the nose is slightly different between the two, but no zero car. It seems they lowered the nose in the second photo and perhaps made it a little flatter.
FeelTheFORCE Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 I guess that picture wasn't good enough. Here's another of the second train clearly showing the zero car.
Vekoma Fan Boy Posted June 29, 2007 Author Posted June 29, 2007 Here is what I mean by Zero car: You can clearly see the zero car twisting on this transition. And you can see the same nose on the newer trains on EGF, and also if you look closely in this pic, you can see the gap between the zero car and first row of seats, which allows the articulation. Now compare those to the old ones
haiderodes Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 ^Much better photo. Now, I'd have to agree that it has something to do with the first drop/curves.
BDG Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 I read somewhere the original design was good for rides like Superman, but it got damaged (dented) by the twistyness of Expedition GeForce. So they came up with a new design, more suited for tight twists & turns.
