Nation's Rudest Drivers: Miami Retains Title

Last Update: May 15, 2007 4:14 PM

Feeling a little angry during your commute? If you are in Miami - you are certainly not alone. For the second year in a row, Miami has topped a list of the nation's rudest drivers.

Road rage runs rampant in Miami as the older retired generation takes the wheel head on into traffic of the city's younger population commuting to and from work.

Rounding out the top of the list after Miami is New York, Boston, Los Angeles and our nation's capital - Washington D.C.

If you want to drive surrounded by smiles and well-wishes, your best bet would be in Portland, Oregon. Following Portland for the most courteous drivers are Pittsburgh, Seattle-Tacoma, St. Louis, and the Dallas-Forth Worth area.

The survey results were based on observations of tail-gaiting, road rage reports, slamming on the brakes, and colorful traffic gestures.

The List:

1. Miami

2. New York

3. Boston

4. Los Angeles

5. Washington, D.C.

6. Phoenix

7. Chicago

8. Sacramento, Calif.

9. Philadelphia

10. San Francisco

11. Houston

12. Atlanta

13. Detroit

14. Minneapolis-St. Paul

15. Baltimore

16. Tampa, Fla.

17. San Diego

18. Cincinnati

19. Cleveland

20. Denver

21. Dallas-Ft. Worth

22. St. Louis

23. Seattle-Tacoma

24. Pittsburgh

25. Portland, Ore.

Why limit it to Miami? It's really South Florida in general.

Anyway, it's nice to see some things never change.

I'm not surprised that some of the biggest cities were placed highest on the list. No wonder I loved using the CTA so much in Chicago in January.

But I'm a bit surprised that Columbus didn't make the list. Seems if you don't go 15-20 mph over the limit on Rt. 315 (the highway from I-70 to I-270 and going past OSU) you'll get run off.

Well, living in Portland, I can say that honestly the drivers here are better than anywhere else I have driven as far as not cutting you off, tailgating, etc. But we really only have about a dozen or so really bad traffic spots during rush hour in the entire Portland metro area, so that probably has a lot to do with it. That, and the fact that the only other large urban areas I have driven very much in outside of the Pacific Northwest are the Bay Area and LA so...........yeah.
