jazzimm Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 Well I did a search, but couldn't find that anybody else has heard about this. Maybe it's not supposed to leak yet? I dunno, either way, I heard (from a reasonably good source... somebody who is a former employee and is in touch with many managers at Wonderland) that if attendance and sales are up at Canada's Wonderland this year, Cedar Fair is considering adding a Top Thrill Dragster to the park. Again, don't rely on this too much, because it's just a possibility (and obviously a rumour), but I think it would be a great addition to Wonderland.
kraxleRIDAH Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 After $25 million dollars, a truckload of mechanical failures, an incident where riders were injured from a flayed cable, a still a relatively moody operation, and Dick Kinzel remarking it as the worst business decision he's ever made...I doubt Cedar Fair will be returning down that same path. EVER. Especially at a park like Canada's Wonderland. Keep dreaming though.
coastrfreak2000 Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 Especially at a park like Canada's Wonderland. Keep dreaming though. What's that supposed to mean? Another thing to note is Dick Kinzel said he would never put in a coaster like TTD after all the troubles that it caused....
jazzimm Posted May 14, 2007 Author Posted May 14, 2007 Yep well that's what a lot of the employees were talking about. Dragster has had so many problems, but I know they did hear this come up. Either way, I'd love to see a new (and hopefully better/larger) ride at Wonderland. So many people are complaining that no new rides were put in this year.
Carnage Posted May 14, 2007 Posted May 14, 2007 This rumour is actually quite a few years old. It popped up right around the time Italian Job was built. Italian Job was probably the launched coaster that this rumor centered around. Plus, CW getting more attendance is not what would make Cedar Fair build a big coaster. The park already is the highest attended seasonal park, so it's not like they need an incentive like this to increase attendance.
thecoasterkid Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Why pay $25million to put in a dragster clone when a much cheaper ride will have the exact same effect. You're talking about a park where the majority of people find the SLC and Boomerang to be the best coasters available.
Carnage Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Plus I wouldn't put much stock in what employees say. They don't know anything more than the average guest.
jazzimm Posted May 15, 2007 Author Posted May 15, 2007 This rumour is actually quite a few years old. Maybe, but what I'm talking about I heard just the other day through park employees. Also, I think it's much more likely to be considered now that the park is actually owned by Cedar Fair. Plus, CW getting more attendance is not what would make Cedar Fair build a big coaster. The park already is the highest attended seasonal park, so it's not like they need an incentive like this to increase attendance. You obviously haven't met some of the crazy new managers. All they want is for everything to be better, better, better than last year. I can't describe it... but they're not crazy... just extremely committed. And for $25 million? They're gonna want attendance to be high for that kind of project. (again, this is just a rumour... I'm just throwing it out there)

This is a rumor that won't go away. Just like that stupid "Wonderland is moving to Woodstock" rumor that I hear about over and over again. I'm just not getting my hopes up, as I'm very doubtful that this rumor has any truth to it.
mightypotato Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 I'm still waiting on "Footloose", the B&M floorless that was rumoured about a while back... *continues holding breath*
