CGM Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 You may or may not know that there is a new kiddie coaster being built at Cherry Valley Golf and Games. The sign can be seen here: http://www.rcdb.com/ig3482.htm?picture=4 Whilst browsing RCDB I noticed that it is the exact same sign as used on Paramount's Great America's Tidal Wave/Greased Lightnin' but with a different paint job. http://www.rcdb.com/ig75.htm?picture=15 For some reason I found this quite funny. That a sign for such an awesome Schwarzkopf coaster in a major park can end up being used for a kiddie ride at some Crazy Golf course. And that Cherry Valley has been the ultimate cheap skate and simply bought one of PGA's old signs. So don't be suprised if you see any rides named Stealth or Whizzer being added soon
SFGAm Shock Wave Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 It's more likely that they were thinking of Six Flags Great America's Tidal Wave when they chose the name since both parks are in Illinois (about 90 minutes apart). It is also far more likely that they constructed a new sign with a similar look since the 2 signs appear to have slightly different dimensions.
Airtime&Gravity Posted November 30, 2006 Posted November 30, 2006 Cherry Valley wasn't being cheap. They wanted a ride with the same theme as the classic SFGAM ride. I doubt the signs are the same, and the fact that they look similar is only the theme.
CGM Posted December 1, 2006 Author Posted December 1, 2006 No, it is the same sign, look at it more closely, count the number of swirls and the look at the shape of them and the text. Don't be fooled by the dots or wood grain effects, they're just painted on. If you look at just the shape, you can see that they're exactly the same. Either that or there's some creepy guy who likes to copy signs. (And yes, I do realise that I am incredibly sad for looking at signs in such detail)
steel Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 ^Are you sure? Because its fairly easy for me to see that the waves are completely different. Greased Lightin's waves turn in on themselves more and there is more of a difference in height.
SFGAm Shock Wave Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 http://www.rcdb.com/ig75.htm?picture=16 Better picture of original sign. They are not the same sign. The original is MUCH WIDER.
Moose Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 also, on the original, the a, v, and e in wave are all separate letters, in the new one, they are touching.
