The "Super Shot," a 100-foot-tall free-fall ride is coming to Coney Island this summer and could give the old roller coaster a run for its money.

Until now, the amusement park's reigning king of heart-racing action has been the nearly 90-year- old Cyclone.

With most of the other rides very kid-oriented, the only way to get palpitations at Brooklyn's beachfront fun zone is to win your sweetie a giant stuffed animal by squirting water in a mechanical clown's mouth.

Rising about 100 feet above the ground, the Super Shot aims to change that.

Later this month, it will be coming to Deno's Wonder Wheel Park, home to the famous, 85-year-old, 150-foot-tall Ferris wheel, and right next door to the Cyclone in Astroland Park.

Even though the Super Shot will take you 10 stories in the air, then drop at speeds reaching 30 mph, Deno's owner, Dennis Vourderis, told The Post that the new ride will be "a rather pleasant experience."

"You get a bird's-eye view of the beach and of the Boardwalk," he said. "It's nice and quiet and serene — then, all of a sudden, you've got seconds of terror, totally out of surprise. You don't know when you're going to drop!"

Vourderis rode the Super Shot at a convention in Orlando last year and knew his park just had to have it. He bought a model less than a month later.

"It was great, it was really good," he said. "Not too high, not too low, it's just right."

With a height restriction of only 42 inches, it's sure to be a hit with the young adventurer crowd.

For hot-dog lovers on line at Nathan's, the new ride already sounded like a hit.

"I think it'll definitely be a great addition," said John Esposito, 18, as he contemplated chili, cheese or both.

"It's nice to see some development."

Classmate Matt Turturro agreed.

"Yeah, they need some variety at this point," he said. "Coney Island needs to get updated with the times."

Esposito, who said he's ridden the Cyclone countless times since he was 12, was looking forward to some new thrills.

"It'll definitely attract more people," he said. "People are usually scared of those kind of [free-fall] rides — which means more people will want to ride."

Only 42"???? Interesting.....

Oh...42'', that is creepy!

Especially if it's one of those scary IAAPA drop rides. Remember that one that sent us all to the Chiropractor??

Looks like Coney and Morey's are both getting an ARM drop tower. My question is, a maximum speed of 30 mph?? Can that be right?

At least it's not a Chance Slingshot. Now that is a POS! I rode the one in Myrtle Beach, and I think going UP the tower was more exciting than falling down.

(who thinks drop towers that fall slower than gravity should be outlawed)
