Hercules Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I am a little late doing this, but I had to come down here to school for an orientation on August 18th. On the way back home, I figured I would stop by Dorney Park - my home park that I have not visited this year I got pretty fed up with Dorney and Cedar Fair over the off season so I did not buy a season pass this year. If I don't go this year, it will be the first time that I have not visited the park since I was 3 (when I got my head stuck in a fence there, over near the old race track... long story). Anyway, it's kind of weird that I have gone from one extreme to the other (I went to the park a total of over 30 times last year, going to school 5 minutes away kind of helped though). Anyway, I'm rambling. I'm probably going to go to the park during Halloweekends if anyone would like to join me. So now, you might be saying, how are you posting a trip report to a place that you haven't been to? On the way back from Philly, I just decided to stop and take some pictures from the backlot area (with permission of course, I still have some connections). I hope you enjoy the few shots that I took. To round things out I pulled off the side of Hamilton Blvd. and risked death to get a shot of Laser. An overview of the park while driving 60 mph. Not very good, I know. A shot of Aquablast while driving 45mph. Random view of Hydra from another road. And of course, every trip to Dorney Park has to include a pathetic photo of the Hercules footers still sitting in the water. I like the way this one came out too. The spot behind the lake can provide some pretty cool views. Doesn't apply to me! WHAT!? They don't have that one anymore?! That is a prime spot!!! Stupid Dorney. On the way down 309 I noticed a new Dorney Billboard and thought that it was a great compliment to the other one that they have...
Olsor Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Nice pics. When I went to Dorney last year, I also pulled off the road to get some long-distance shots of the park. It's just kind of weird that you can see practically the entire park from the road. Even weirder is seeing pictures of Dorney from 20-30 years ago, when there was nothing but Thunderhawk.
YoshiFan Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Nice pictures, Hydra looks a lot different from that angle.
pkdcoaster Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Very Cool pics from the lake, Just isn't the same with Herc not there, used to be such an awesome photo spot with that hill and turn dominating the picture. Hydra just doesnt have the same impact from that view. I am still bummed they did not use that hillside for a similar drop on Hydra like Hercules had. JEFF
Hercules Posted September 6, 2006 Author Posted September 6, 2006 Well, some of the neighbors had a problem with Hercules come out over the lake like that, which is why Hydra did not utilize the water. That was one of the many reasons for th removal of Hercules.
ParkTrips Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I take it you didn't even go into the park? You rock.
Masked_Maverick Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Great pics. I haven't been to Dorney since Talon was first built. I have wanted to go back so bad but the drive is a bit much. One day I will say screw it and go.
DarkStitch626 Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 The pictures are cool. I am gonna miss being able to ride Hydra and all the others..being as I am like 600 miles away now.
Ccron10 Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I didn't know the footers for the Hurcules were still there! By the way great pics!
