Does anyone know anything about this website ?

themeparker.com

The reason I am asking is that many of my pictures of coasters etc that I have uploaded to flickr have been placed on this site with out any permission from myself.

Other flickr members have also had there pictures placed on this site.

I'm also letting you guys know as some of your pictures could possibly be on there also.

If anyone knows who runs this site could we ask that these pictures are removed or any future pictures put on there have had permission to do so first.

Thank you

ThemeParker.com is my site - just launched a few months ago. I found this discussion board through my referrer logs.

I sincerely apologize to you, Nemesis-Storm – and all others - for using your pictures without permission. I was under the presumption that since your images were licensed under Creative Commons, they were fair game to use on my site, as long as credit was provided. With every image, I have attempted to credit the photographer and link back to their Flickr pages. I thought I had understood how CC worked – but now it seems I do not.

I feel just awful that I didn’t ask to use the images in the first place. It would have been a simple courtesy that I unfortunately overlooked.

>> I'm also letting you guys know as some of your pictures could possibly be on there also

Just to clear my conscious, I made a commitment when I started ThemeParker that I would only use images that I took myself, that were provided by Theme Parks themselves, that were provided by ThemeParker.com visitors or, regrettably, that were designated Creative Commons that I found on Flickr,. I have made every attempt to stick to that oath and have never pulled images from other Theme Park sites.

>> AND, they are currently listed as a spammer via reporting sites, looks to be a Comcast IP address this is hosted on:

That is part true. I am no spammer – but I do run the server out of my house over my Comcast high-speed cable. As I mentioned, the site is brand new and I wanted save money where I could – namely by hosting from the house. Comcast, like most ISP’s are blacklisted because many fledgling spammers set up rouge servers on their cable modems. ThemeParker is simply not in the business of spamming.

Again, I’m sorry for any aggravation. I’d like to make it right. To try and remedy the situation, I am in the process of removing all Flickr-sourced images from ThemeParker.com. The process should be complete within the next 12-24 hours.

PS: You’ve definitely got the some of the best photos up on Flickr. They were irresistible.

Humbly,

A huge thanks to Paul (Nemesis) for brining this issue to our attention in the Flickr Rollercoaster Group, and for resolving it .. all in a matter of hours.

This is an example of how well and how widely the Flickr Rollercoaster Group's images are regarded - particularly the quality & quantity of those submitted by Paul. Kudos to Matthew Greene, too, for acting on our complaints so quickly.

I have no idea what "Creative Commons" is, but I know that I have not given permission to anyone at the site to use our images.

I checked out the site, and I had problems getting to most pages. They either loaded up very slow or I was greeted with a "Page Cannot Be Displayed" error.

In any case, it doesn't look like any of the content belogs to the person who owns this site. All the images came from someplace else, and every page had tons of ads.

Looks to me more like a portal for spam, which is NOT something that Theme Park Review, a totally ad-free site, condones.

Matthew,

First of all I would like to say thanks for your quick response on all of this.

I think you realise yourself albeit of any CC licenses placed on my images or any other persons photos located on flickr or from any other source – the ‘right thing’ to do would be to get permission from author of these images.

I cannot & rather not comment on the ‘spam’ issue as I do not want to make dispersions on yourself or the site you run.

I wish you the best with site.

I think the thing that you are missing about Creative Commons is that the license is reserved solely for Non-Profit Use.

creativecommons.org/about/licenses/meet-the-licenses

Your site would be classified as Commercial. Technically, you shouldn't be hosting it on Comcast at all if you look at the Terms of your service contract with them, but I am sure they will never really catch on to it.

Actually, your site is very nice from a design aspect, but I think that your content is getting lost in the storm of ads and affiliates. But then again, I guess that is pretty much your goal.
