  1. [citation needed] Even Al Lutz (who is by no means a reliable source, but who loves to find any excuse to slam Disney for being cheap) never claimed that. And Jim Disney, who usually doesn't make wild claims, said they were in the plan from the beginning.
  2. Before this starts another argument: Batman - The Dark Knight, Bizarro, Kozmo's Kurves, Zoomerang.
  3. Glad to see that Black Diamond opened up. Sounds like it will be a great addition to the park. On another note, it was 6 years ago today that Robb first posted that Knobels was planning on installing a "Flying Turns" roller coaster (it was officially annouced at PPP on 10/8/2006). I had been planning to do a PA trip once FT opened, so I've been watching this thread over the years, but now with Skyrush and Black Diamond as new attractions, I may have to bite the bullet and do the trip next summer.
  4. For those of you in the Boston area, there is a Groupon today for half-off tickets to see "Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! It's Time to Dance!" at the Agganis Arena at Boston University on October 2nd. http://www.groupon.com/deals/gl-yo-gabba-gabba-agganis-arena
  5. Oops, I didn't realize that there were two different coasters in that last picture. I thought that was the car for the mouse.
  6. Wow, that last ride looks insane. No upstops, seats that look like they came from a fast-food restaurant, and no real station (are there even brakes?). How does it get up that first hill?
  7. I can't believe the knee-jerk reactions of some of the people on Facebook. Just because New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia are being hit doesn't mean that Hershey is. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at4+shtml/085723.shtml?swath?large#contents
  8. In Theme Park related news, all of Coney Island, including Luna Park and the Cyclone, is under a mandatory evacuation order starting at 5pm Saturday as Irene approaches.
  9. RotW: 15/20 (mostly lucky guesses)
  10. I guess I must've caught it on a good night or sat in just the right place the one time I rode it in 2003. Either that, or my concussion from riding in the back row of the Texas Cyclone beforehand has altered my memories. Having just ridden the Mind Erasers at Elitch Gardens, SFA, and SFNE I went on the ride expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised.
  11. It's really a shame. In Ednör's previous life as Serial Thriller at Astroworld it was one of the smoothest SLCs around. Now, after the move, it is just downright brutal (although flying over the water with the mist and water cannons is pretty cool).
  12. Except at La Ronde, it's not "go-LIE-ath", it's "GO-lee-et" On an unrelated note, I think I ran into that same groundhog when I was in La Ronde earlier this summer for the fireworks festival.
  13. I solved this yesterday. The key was the symbol just before the series of numbers, which matches the symbol at http://ctpilots.com/lawsuit.pdf Using each number pair as row/letter, starting on the row in the lawsuit document with the symbol, and excluding spaces and punctuation, I got: If anyone wants to try out the spreadsheet I used to solve this, you can download it at http://www3.zansstuff.com/files/afwChapter7.xls
  14. Hmm, Air-Time narrows it down to a coaster, certain flats, or another water coaster. It also would eliminate some coasters, such as a Boomerang or SLC.
  15. I got one too, and I'm also in the Boston area.
  16. Big thanks have to go out to the folks at TPR and SFNE that pulled off an amazing event. It exceeded all my expectations. The ERT was amazing (especially the water challenge -- I managed on my last run to keep most of the water in my cup, only to have the lapbar pop up in the station and knock the cup right out of the car). I can't wait to see everyone's pictures!
  17. ...usually: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17952
  18. Don't you mean Giga-Lite? (Hyper is an Arrow term, not an Intamin term).
  19. The 32-seat Screamin' Swing at Lake Compounce only cost $3 million ($2.5 mil for the ride, $0.5 mil for installation). Unless they are planning another Wildebeest-style ride for the water park (at $5.5 million, Wildebeest is the second most expensive ride at the park), I think the theme park side will be getting more than that. That said, I'd love to see a Screamin' Swing plus other new rides or enhancements on the theme park side -- the Screamin Swing is one of the best family-friendly flat rides I've ridden.
  20. If it has a different layout and height, what makes it a Mega-Lite Coaster and not just a Mega Coaster? Intamin calls their 150-220ft "traditional" coasters Mega Coasters, while the Mega-Lite coasters are a much shorter 100ft. If Hersheypark builds a 212ft non-inverting non-launched Intamin ride, assuming it's not anything weird like a Wing Rider/Motor Bike/Aquatrax, it would fall under the Mega Coaster category in their catalog. There's nothing "Lite" about 212 ft.
  21. Plenty of stuff falls out -- the velcro bags on the seatbacks are crap.
