Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

B&M Hypers are great. They're huge. They're fast. They're fun. Almost everyone enjoys them. Most of us tend to take this hobby less seriously or aren't interest exclusively in extreme thrills. A lot of us appreciate the park providing such a large scale coaster and support HP because of it, which makes us appear like we're not spoiled bitches. lol i'm a spoiled bitch because i'm not excited about a hyper, my god you'd think you guys designed the thing you're taking this very seriously and very personally. how truly bizarre, perhaps it's time to step away from the keyboard -

Mako is the exact opposite of "meh", and I've ridden it probably ten or fifteen times in the past year alone. I have a big smile on my face every time I get off. There's something to be said about a coaster as a visual magnet, and a big photogenic B&M certainly fits the bill for Hersheypark's new grand entrance area. What would you rather have had Hersheypark build? i much preferred manta, and montu at bgt. like i said many times now, i understand why hershey is building this coaster, it makes perfect sense for a family park, it will look good, it's not too intense for anyone, and has huge capacity.. i'm just surprised you guys are excited about this thing. to each his own Hersheypark already has a B&M invert. A flyer would have been probably the best option, but I think a B&M hyper is something to really look forward to. i actually expected a dive coaster, they seem to be the "in" thing -

Looks boring based on what? What there a layout/rendering released by the park that I missed? Or are we really saying a coaster is boring based on a leaked blueprint? Co-sign what everyone said about Mako. That ride is freaking awesome. i've ridden mako, meh. that first turn is cool but then its just a bunch of floater airtime hills like every b&m hyper. i know for some people the ultimate coaster would be 20 identical airtime hills in a row but i guess that doesn't do it for me. -

haha i dunno, i've tried a half dozen b&m hypers and to me they're pretty boring.. but they'd be the first real coaster i would ever take a novice on because they're so tame, so they have their place and i absolutely understand why hershey is building one since skyrush is so intense people probably rarely want to ride it a second time... or even once. GP will eat candymonium up, you can take your mother and kids on it, and it will devour lines.. but i don't understand why enthusiasts are excited about it? i mean yeah a new coaster is a new coaster but was another hyper on the east coast something that was high on everyones wish list? -

Am I the only one that thinks the new coaster looks boring? It looks like a cookie cutter B&M hyper, like nitro without the helix. Is this thing going to bring anything new to the table? In this age of parks building new coasters that all kind of do something new and cool (RMC, S&S, GCI, etc), this latest B&M seems pretty underwhelming no? Especially after knocking it out of the park with Fury 325? Also, I've never been to the park but I really want to ride Skyrush because it seems so unique even though I'm not sure it's my kind of ride. If i have very little interest in the new hyper, would it be better to go in the Spring of 2020.. maybe less crowds as people are holding back for chocolatetown opening in the summer to visit.. or go early fall and hope everyone is trying to ride candymonium so other rides have less lines? -

How hard is it to secure these fastpasses for Do-dodonpa, especially if I want 3, and want them all in the earliest two hour window possible. Do I have to queue before the park opens? Sprint to somewhere in particular when it opens? -

How do fastpasses work? Are they timed ie you have to pick a time slot for each ride? If someone wanted to ride Dododonpa 3x in a row as early as possible (don't have a full day), would it be possible? What would you need to do to make sure you got them? -

I don't even know the last time we rode Dragster where we didn't have to wait through a 30ish minute breakdown in the station. I'm not even joking, it’s probably been like 5 years. Wow.. so I should expect a very difference from Great Adventure? the two times i've been to Gadv, both times on a late April weekend I went straight for KK and the station was empty for the first half hour of the day at least.. I got 5 front row rides in a row just last week, most I had to wait was one train to get the front.. and we had to wait for people to fill the train up, a half hour after opening. Then went to Toro and it was running trains half full for at least an hour after opening, probably longer but I left the area. I was hoping maybe by going to CP midweek in early June it would be a similar experience But I guess it's a different beast, more like Disney where there's always a minimum "crowdedness"? -

I don't expect the park to be crowded but the line for Steel Vengeance will still be 60-90 minutes if you show up at 10:00. If you don't take advantage of early entry then you're insane. Even on a Monday in early June? It's never dead? -

One more question, is there a reason not to buy a platinum pass at canada's wonderland? it's $218 CAD instead of $218 USD. Even after 15% tax that's $180 USD, pretty good savings, adds up for a family. And the website says "Photo ID card can be processed at any Cedar Fair park"? Am I missing something? -

Thanks! Do a lot of people take advantage of that early hour entry? Or if you show up at the regular opening time are can you still get a couple walk on rides or station waits before lines start forming? Probably going on a Monday if that changes anything -

What's the best order to do SteVe, Maverick, TTD, MF, Valravyn, and Gatekeeper to minimize wait times if going on a Monday in late May or early June? And is there early entry if you stay onsite or have a platinum pass, or is it just a weekend thing that time of year? Calender says open 10-8pm. Thanks! -
Thinking of driving down to Great Adventure this weekend, debating between Saturday and Sunday. Main goal is to ride Ka and Toro, I know Kingda Ka shuts down if its windy or raining.. does it just shut down while it's raining and once the rain stops it gets going again, or can rain shut it down for a good portion of the day even if the skies clear? Saturday has no rain but gusts up to 26mph, possible morning shower and I assume bigger crowds than Easter Sunday which has gusts of 17mph and "a few showers".. but less people? If things stay this way, what do you think is the better day of the two? Thanks!

how are the crowds at this park on a weekend? it's not super close to any big cities, does it still manage to get slammed like laronde, new england, great adventure? -
i've only been once, but when i went kingda ka was the place to go right off the bat. first ride was walk-on, second ride there was a 10min wait, third ride 20 min wait, and then it broke down. when it got going again it was a 20 min wait, broke down a second time. el toro ran half empty trains for an hour and a half, and afterwards i'm sure there wasn't much wait. and nitro was a station wait everytime we went on it. superman had a longer wait. kingda ka and zumanjaro drop were the only rides with appreciable wait times.

We are going in the opposite order. Flying into Cleveland and staying at Hotel Breakers. Full day at CP then next day sightseeing and drive down to a hotel near KI. Full day there then leave out from Cincinnati the next day. I'm just getting the 3hr drive out the way once! What sightseeing is there? Serious question, never been but am thinking of doing a weekend sometime -

good point, people will come no matter what. but the same could be said for Canada's wonderland, there's no competition there. and yet they're investing money in it, three high end coasters in 10 years. but it costs more. I just think six flags is too cheap, it works for the condition the parks are in, but I would prefer they invest in laronde (and other parks) and just increase the price of admission. in the case of laronde, like you said, there's no other game in town.. so people will inevitably pay, especially if there's a new flagship coaster or two and they spruce up the place. alternatively they keep lowering prices and keep the parks stagnate with minimal to no investment, it seems like a race to the bottom.. -

Let it go? How about just putting some money into it instead of buying more parks in buttfuck nowhere. Where else is there an amusement park IN a city of 4 million, that gets 10 million summer tourists, that you can see from the city, bike to from the city, is accessible by subway, etc..? The potential of this place is huge, the problem is no investment. Spend the bucks to spruce the place up, staff it properly, RMC the le monstre and build a record breaking steel coaster and voila. Build it and they will come. Problem is Six Flags is cheap, they prefer to charge peanuts for passes but spend peanuts on their parks outside of a couple flagship parks (MM, Great Adventure, etc). You can buy a gold pass for $60, the equivalent cedar fair pass is $220. So yeah, I guess you're right, best thing would be for SF to let it go, and Cedar Fair to pick it up and do it right. In less than 10 years CW has gotten behemoth, leviathan, and a new dive coaster coming. Coasters that have put it back on the map. Look at KD with i305 and Carowinds with Fury. Six Flags is just too damn cheap. I would gladly pay triple for a better park with modern cutting edge rides. -
how does that work? at laronde, albeit its my first time with a pass, there doesn't seem to be bring a friend free days but rather we have a voucher to bring a friend free that can be used anytime between may long weekend and june 24th or something. anyways our plan would be sat 8th at knoebels, sun 9th at hershey, mon 10th at great adv. so should be good for great adv since we'll be there on a non holiday monday (well, it's rosh hashanah but i don't know if that's brings crowds), hoping hershey isn't going to be too bad on the sunday. does something special happen at knoebels for the phoenix phun fest? i'll have to look up the kids rides there, i didn't know they had lower than normal height restrictions.
