Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

Apparently according to popular mechanics, the best roller coaster/thrill ride in MN is the Avatar Airbender at Nickelodeon Universe. What's everyone's thoughts? https://www.popularmechanics.com/adventure/g28062751/best-roller-coaster-every-state/ -

I've been a season pass holder for 10 years and this weekend will be my first time going to haunt (hard to believe, I know). The FAQ on the website doesn't explain that much, but what time does the park officially switch from the "great pumpkin fest" to haunt? Do you need the skeleton key for all skeleton key attractions or is that just the fast lane for the haunt attractions? -

This has been brought up many times in the past. Valleyfair features clips from other coasters in their commercials, I think cedar fair just uses a general outline of their parks in their pictures for advertisement. Doesn't mean what's displayed in the picture/video will be actually at the park. -

I thought some parks complete construction before year end so it can be considered on the prior years budget. So North Star would technically be included in the 2016 budget. Don't quote me on that though. Wish they would have completed North Star for 2016 since they added Flying Eagles and the Amphitheater revamp in the same area anyway. Cedar Fair has made some interesting announcements today. Doesn't seem like a ton of investment dollars are being made compared to prior years. I don't really count Cedar Point as they are just on their own playing field. Cost concious flat rides for all in 2017!! Makes me think the debt due in the near future has a lot to do with the conservative approach. CP Still hasn't announced what they are doing with Mean Streak. I'm sure an RMC transformation would be costly if that is coming to their park! -

I'm pretty sure its referring to the fact that our State is up north, and that we used to have a hockey team called the North Stars, I really don't think it had anything to do with its location at the park... -

Looks like WOF, CW, and DP are making their 2016 announcements on August 18th along with us! Should be a big day for CF -

Do you have the link to the permit? I'd like to see it. -

I'm just not sold with the Windseeker or Star Flyer. The maintenance on Windseekers is a pain or if a Star Flyer is a 100 feet, would that really be considered "New Heights"? I'm just by going on what CaptainUnknown said. -

Don't Windseekers have a lot of mechanical issues though? The one at Knotts Berry Farm was closed down for about a year until it was relocated to Worlds of Fun. I just don't feel like it would be worth the investment. Cedar Fair hasn't added a NEW one to their parks since 2012. I'm still a little iffy with the height restriction. -

A Skyhawk type ride is a possibility, although I'm still not convinced that we will be getting a flat ride. It just seems to early to be making an announcement for that. Flying Eagles was announced mid September last year and even the waterpark expansion was announced in early September prior to the opening year. This is one of their earlier announcements and they need to start digging sooner rather than later! -

A Frisbee is definitely possible, I'm just thinking when they say NEW heights that it could be one of the taller rides in the park, not similar to other rides.. I've been on the mondial at Cedar Point and Kings Island but does anyone know how high you go compared to Xtreme Swing? -

What happened to this that was posted on the facebook page? Did they change the announcement date? Is this a good or a bad sign? -

Is the announcement officially supposed to happen tomorrow? I know CP has an announcement tomorrow so not sure if VFs date changed. -

While we are talking about Kings Island, does Mystic Timbers seem like it could be a Renegade clone? I haven't seen any real POV videos or anything but I think it has the S Shaped curve on the drop. -

I also saw that VF was offering an all inclusive day pass where you get admission, fast lane, all day dining, parking, and souvenir cup for something like $99? They probably want to get as much money as they can before the season comes to an end. -

I saw the episode as well. I thought they did a great job, and it was fun to see Valley Fair on one of the shows. Maybe after we get that new coaster, they will come back to do an episode of Extreme Coaster Wars. They are not making new episodes of Insane Coaster Wars anymore, not sure if it was getting a whole lot of viewers after three seasons -

Did anyone else the Xtreme Waterparks episode on the travel channel that featured Breakers Plunge? I liked the Dave Fraizer interview when he said Valleyfair is improving "little by little" throughout the years. It seems fitting since we are on the topic of the history of Valleyfair. According to the episode though, we have the tallest twin body slides in America!! Woo!! -

^ Not sure about when the slides open, but I was able to get on raging rapids right away. I would think all the attractions would be open. -

Unfortunately, no it is not. Ok, thanks. I suppose not enough people were taking advantage of it for it to be worth it. You can get early entry to Soak City, found that out a few weeks ago. -

Valleyfair used that photo last year too, I'm assuming its very similar to the ride pane for the apps of all Cedar Fair parks. -

It wouldn't hurt considering it is the top coaster in the park for ridership every year. I still can't believe Northern Lights has no sign at all when Pipe Scream has one at CP. Oh wait, VF is the red headed step child of the CF chain and not worthy. I keep forgetting that. I would prefer the ball in between the northern lights seats to light up at night instead of a sign, now that would be cool! -

I was looking online for construction photos from Wild Thing when I came across this users blog about Valley Fair. He/She was posting updates all the way up until 2009. It was pretty interesting to look through. Below is the link for a post before Renegade was announced. The post contains speculation about a wooden coaster or an invert, check it out if you have the time! There were other updates you can check out as well. https://www.twistermc.com/34332/inverted-wooden-2007/ -

When I go to Soak City I don't usually go to the wave pool, but I did this weekend. Does anyone else think the waves could be a little bit stronger? You can go to bunker beach and see bigger waves, it actually makes renting a tube worthwhile. -

I have done both. I drove last week (with 3 other people) and I have flown into Cleveland. Sandusky is only about 60-70 minutes from the Cleveland airport with 95% of it being one highway so it is an easy drive. It will take you about 3 1/2 hours to get from CP to KI. So if your only go to CP you will not be driving much at all. If you don't like driving then you should definitely fly because like VF15 said it takes about 11.5 to 12 hours to get to KI or CP from Minneapolis. I drove this time because I am tired of airport security lines and delays. Both ways have their advantages so go with what you prefer most. As long as you get there that is all that counts. My only suggestion is to get a Fast Lane Plus for CP, you will not regret it. You will get on many more rides (more fun) and have a more relaxing time. Valravn had a 90 minute wait and with Fast Pass we went on it 3 times in 25 minutes. For Maverick it was also a 75-90 minute wait and we never waited more than 15 minutes. I have been tinkering with the idea of flying from Chicago to Dayton, Ohio which is only about 40 minutes from Kings Island. As much as I'd love to do both parks, I've been to CP more and I haven't had the chance to ride Banshee yet. Been trying to find travel prices for under $200 round trip but no good luck yet.
