  1. I wish I could make it out to the park on weekdays but completely not feasible due to working during the week...I love light days when you don't have to worry about line jumpers and you can re-ride to your heart's content. Wishing noise was not really an issue...assuming that this is all the case, I can see this being frustrating for the park as opening is happening much later than anticipated. There are already commercials airing mentioning briefly about "the new Gold Striker" but no Gold Striker to be ridden once you get to the park....Technically Gold Striker is ready to run, as we saw during the promo shoot a few weeks ago. Perhaps, due to my addiction to this ride, I'm getting antsy and really itching to ride this again (that's how you know a coaster was done right!) On the flipside, this somewhat worries me of what the park can do for future rides without being forced into more noise reduction measures. Wonder how feasible building rides behind the rapids would be...can't be worse than having a roaring B&M adjacent to the area.
  2. Flight Deck, 12 rides in 30 minutes (ERT session from 2011 Bay Area Bash), plus another 2 rides later Gold Striker, 11 back-to-back rides (well, it was the only ride that was open ) Giant Dipper (SCBB), 11 rides total when I was younger Superman Ultimate Flight (SFDK), 10 rides total, 6 back-to-back...gotta love Holiday in the Park!
  3. ^When we ride again, it will be a fresh experience again for us! At least we can say we got to ride GS in its early phase before the sound walls went up. Night rides are a must, dusk rides were close but not quite the experience to be had...like drinking a diet coke vs full on coke. I'm planning on shooting some off ride footage, revising the vid I made a couple weeks back (with what was to be more angles). Looks like star tower will be my best vantage point as it stands now.
  4. Looks like Gold Striker's sprouting more walls...thus further delaying opening...we shall see what this weekend brings. Tunnel brake run, I suppose protecting components from the elements? And this kind of irked me a bit. The whole enjoyment of being in line was watching the train fly by, and getting some awesome photo ops...
  5. An interesting read...not sure how reliable the source is but here goes: Source: http://entertainmentdesigner.com/uncategorized/the-year-of-the-coaster-top-five-most-anticipated-roller-coasters-of-2013/
  6. I think I want to not be in the Bay Area that weekend...People are crazy enough as it is around here...and the park (if open) is going to be a mess.
  7. Gold Striker isn't going to be "Disaster Transport'd" or turned into one of those classic Caterpillar rides (flat ride with cover that folds over mid-ride)... meaning it won't be covered entirely ) A lot of the time when I go, I use my drypak (phone can be submerged) and stuff my valuables in that...that way I leave my bag at the base of the slides and slide away. But now we have a group, we can split the cost of a fluffy bunny (which is very likely given the crowds). A bit behind here, some more Vine nonsense was made
  8. Those trains look nice! At first I had to look closer, wasn't sure if this was the rendering or the real deal! Can't wait to ride UT (which seems like it could open before another certain 2013 NorCal coaster which remains unnamed
  9. Oh god...this is going to be insane! I can't wait! At the same time, I'm a bit nervous (already). Last time we did this with 4 people, Rob and I were riding the lip of the slide into the splash pool where the raft just flopped into the splash pool...and our heads smacked into eachother. 5 grown adults...better hang on for dear life, unless you want to land on somebody's lap like I almost did As long as our combined weight is less than 1000lbs we're good...that would be max 200lbs per rider. Nope, hoping to see something soon...would be neat if the park posted some shots on their Facebook...also I anxiously wait to see if any footage makes it on Youtube.
  10. So we can officially say Gold Striker won't be running on the parks big holiday weekend...
  11. Magnum Brown's Famous Fried Arrow Coasters...yummy!
  12. Less than $500 more to go! I'm seriously excited for this! UPDATE: They reached 100K!!!
  13. The whole YOLO thing is pretty dead except within our group, but it's usually all theme park related stuff. I actually don't recall seeing anymore YOLO stuff in Walmart...and if there still is, I'm completely not surprised.
  14. Whaaa?? Though this *should* go in the GP Facebook thread I found this hilarious...SFDK posts a pic of Roar and someone (who appears to have some coaster knowledge) posts this: I just had to laugh, as much as I don't like using the word 'retarded.' Also speaking of Gold Striker...I've had 2 instances now, wearing my Gold Striker t-shirt out in the general public. At the store, a kid sees my shirt and tells his dad "Oooh! Look daddy, it's Gold Striker!" and rattles on about it. And then on another day I was wearing my shirt, a kid asks me this: "Hey, are you one of those who helped build Gold Striker??" Apparently these t-shirts give me credibility or something? Let's not talk about how many times our group (who were all in uniform at the park with our t-shirts) had to stop so people can read the stats on the back, followed by asking where they can buy them...one even took a pic of the back of my shirt
  15. Procrastinated a bit but finally plunked down my $60 to back the project/preorder. I couldn't resist rocking a TPS t-shirt, and I also like the idea of having a hard copy of the game as that's kind of what I'm used to when it comes to purchasing something (like to have a tangible object...I'm weird like that) And I feel good that I helped fund what looks to be something that will consume my life
  16. LOL! Another word filter strikes again! M aggie = Magnum Agreed though, Maggie Brown's Famous Fried Chicken is really good, one of my favorite park offerings.
  17. A line half that length for Grizzly isn't worth waiting, let alone that crazy long one. Gold Striker on the other hand... And yes I plan on picking up a miner hardhat when the shop opens. I could actually have a practical use for it...like when I crawl under my desk to undo my computer, and need light...and protect my dome from getting clobbered. PG&E...I'd rather not post my rants about them, can write a novel on it
  18. We had no problems following the rules for fast pass...we just planned our day out and rode things in the area, did the rides we were after. in the end it just takes planning...not that hard. An example of what we did: we snagged our FP's for ToT, got in standby line, and by the time we got on it was check in time...meaning, reride ToT! And this was my first time using the virtual queue system. A lot of the rides didn't even need FP as the lines were quite short (I can deal with 20 minute waits).
  19. So the ride's got walls...from a visual standpoint, seeing it from the station, it almost looks like it's part of the theming...after all, it is gold mining! My cousin actually just asked me what the purpose of the walls and such were for, thinking it was part of the theming. It's also two-fold. It will appease the neighbors (and show that CGA is looking out for their neighbors) and it will block our view of the offices/business district just outside the walls of CGA...who wants to be reminded of the real world outside the park's gates anyway when you're in a place to escape reality? Oh, and did I say they're nice face choppers? Coming out of the 2nd turnaround (prudential/middle finger turn) that inside wall while banking feels like it's going to slice you in the face...and when hands are up, looks uncomfortably close! Honestly, having ridden it with and without the walls, the walls really don't detract from the ride experience...just more head choppers! In the end CGA has an awesome woodie and I'm ready to ride it another 50 times...as much as it will now take longer to reach my 100 mark (and from what I'm hearing, it's sounding like it *could* open next weekend.)
  20. I wonder if there's any more walls that have to be put up? Let's just encase the entire ride in a building (much like Disaster Transport) and get it over with... In case anyone missed, this was taken from a week ago...very Balder-esque! ...with this said, it now makes me worry about any future attractions on that side of the park...seeing the hurdles they're still jumping through after the ride is technically ready to run. Maybe I'm just overthinking this? Here's hope it will *finally* open next weekend.
  21. I've done several: Medusa (SFDK, drizzly) Roar (SFDK, pouring rain) Invertigo (CGA, pouring rain) Flight Deck (CGA, steady rain) Non coasters: Drop Tower (CGA, pouring rain spraying upward??) Logger's Run (CGA, pouring rain...yes I did a water ride in the rain...why? YOLO!) Flying Eagles/Flying Scooters (CGA, pouring rain...was the only rider on the ride, snapping in the rain!) Delirium (CGA, pouring rain) Rain really enhances the ride. As much as it stings, it is a unique experience that must be tried on every coaster!
  22. You'll need to take a shot before and after your ride on Revolution One to get you to ride it, and one to take your mind off of what just happened to your poor cranium.
  23. Styrofoam-like infill: The Ride I noticed the infill even on the low sections as the train passes the queue.
  24. Took advantage of the 30-cent Super Metroid sale on the Wii U virtual console...my childhood has returned! Ok, so it's my early high school years as I first played this in 1999...still a great game nonetheless! And for 30 cents, that's a steal!
