Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread

No surprised at all. Really the media day probably would cost more than the carnival ride they built. All jokes aside it is a nice flat ride. -

#BanSelfieSticks - Help Us Spread The Word!
ferk60 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Looks like Hershey Park has joined the movement http://www.pennlive.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2015/05/hersheypark_selfie_sticks.html "Use of photo arms, more commonly known as "Selfie-Sticks," is strictly prohibited on all rides and attractions at Hersheypark to ensure the safety of our guests. Selfie-Sticks should be left with a non-rider or stowed in a locker. Guests that do not comply with this policy may be subject to dismissal without refund." People are getting serious about how dangerous and obnoxious these things are at amusement parks, lol. -

I am going on Tuesday so I am hoping that all the people will be at work, or school or just too tired from Memorial Day to go to the park... lol -

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
ferk60 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Your friend? What does he do that he can hear someone that high up the food chain just saying willy nilly anything about 2016? Most of the time don't parks use code names for new major attractions. The only fact he heard while they were planning is that it would be the third tallest in the park? No Location? Name? Nothing New? -
Carowinds Discussion Thread
ferk60 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I am here at Carowinds for the weekend and we rode both sides of Thunder Road because A. I've never been to Carowinds (I am on of those people North Carolina was banking on that would come from far and wide to ride a new giga) B. I heard that rumor that they were getting a new water park expansion to cap off that 50 million dollars commitment that the Cedar Fairs made to Charlotte and tearing down TR which doesn't make sense to me because why couldn't they just build an entrance through the ride. C. I thought i would not add it to my coaster count with out riding both sides. This is sad now Carowinds goes back to 13 coasters. -
Carowinds Discussion Thread
ferk60 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They can more than triple the water park with the land available over there. I doubt the grassy/tree area would be used but there is a lot of space to work with. I just wish they'd keep Thunder Road and build on the other side with a path underneath. My money is on a expansion of the parking and a water park expansion. I wonder if they are going to turn it into a soak city with a separate admission trying to be in line with its sister of the North Cedar Point. That is the only way I can think of justifying making such a super big water park expansion. -
Kings Dominion (KD) Discussion Thread
ferk60 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks for the Soak City update. I have never really been to the water park part of Kings Dominion. I am not really a water park guy so unless the water park is in my way I never really see it but it looks nice. Great pictures... On a side note if we can't speculate about the future of Kings Dominion on Theme Park Review then where do we go! I know you were joking btw and so am I. Why is there so much B&M hate going on on the board recently. They make RELIABLE, high capacity, thrilling coasters. What all that being said I love a good twisty **In my Rob voice** Intamin coaster. I look at them as equals both with their strenghens and weaknesses. I think it is all but confirmed that KD is getting a Winged Coaster and B&M is the only one doing them well so.... deal with it people. -

I hope Laff Trakk is ready by Tuesday. I am taking a friend for his birthday. He wanted to got to an amusement park and he hasn't been to Hershey since he was a kid, probably before Great Bear was installed. He thought Hershey Park was a kiddie park. His mind will be blown -

Yes I agree a drop tower is what they need to add next. Maybe now that all the kinks are worked out they can get one of those cool drop towers like the Falcon Fury one. That would be intense! -

I agree they have a solid line up. As much as I'd like to see more coasters and see them challenge for the coaster record I think that were Hershey Park can improve is in the flat ride department like a Huss Frisbee, Super Swing or even a nice Intamin drop tower.... I know how much the Intamin fanboys love them! lol -

ferk60 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
You intamin fanboys trip me out, lol. I agree with your comment. Skyrush gave me pause and it really amazing how they squeezed a hyper-coaster in that parcel of land. I am confident they can squeeze a hyper coaster into that existing space if they wanted to. I have read something about them acquiring some new land but I am sure it won't all be used for park space. I bet it will be partially for a hotel however I am not sure how much space it even. If they have the land they are certainly not using it to expand right now. -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
ferk60 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They have been very Intamin friendly and both Storm Runner and Sky Rush Are basically build on top of other coaster but how can we forget about the Great Bear, one of the most unique B&M inverts that bobs and weaves through the middle of the park. Now imagine a B&M giga coaster starting Near the Kiss Tower and going out behind the Great Bear and Comment and coming back..... It was be typical of Hershey Park! -

The building actually looks great and fits in very well with the theme of the ride and it fits well into Midway America. Hershey Park never ceases to amaze me how they find space for new roller coasters. Now if only they could find space for a B&M giga coaster..... I can dream right? lol -

That is a travesty I think they got all the issue fixed with the ride so far. Rob this video was great felt like I was there all over again! Hope to get a few rides in this weekend. I am also curious where you place this ride also Rob. I know you are record saying that "i305 eats MF and craps it all over CP". (Best line ever and fav TPR youtube video ever) I assume where ever you place i305 it will be above MF, lol. -

Thanks for all the great feed back, I love these insiders tips. I have been to the Chickies and Petes at both Cedar Point and Dorney Park and love their sweet potatoes fries! Great strategy tips! Keep them coming. I didn't factor in the holiday weekend. I was hoping all the kids would still be at school! lol -
Carowinds Discussion Thread
ferk60 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My friend and I are heading down this weekend from MD. First time going to Carowinds and it is all because we both want to ride Fury 325! Plan on driving down Thursday night and enjoying the park Friday and and finishing up what we do not do on Saturday then we will probably drive up to Either Kings Dominion or Busch Gardens and on the way back. Few questions for the board 1. Places to eat that are good in the park or around the park. I am a foodie so if there is some place I should not miss I want to know. 2. Anyone been on a Friday? Is the park going to be packed? 3. Any tips from Carowinds experts? -

Six Flags America (SFA) Discussion Thread
ferk60 replied to Mind Eraser's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The no shade comment is not an absolute point but it is really No shade in relation to other parks They park doesn't have very many mature trees or places for shade. When a went a few weeks go Superman wasn't open which was a huge bummer only Wild One was running one train. I don't want to bash the park, it is my home park, though I have adopted Hershey Park as my home park. I want to see the park do better. I don't understand why Six Flags does not invest more into the park. The argument "look at all the infrastructure and little things" they have done is weak b/c all parks do that and some parks do that plus get great rides. SFA it is the fourth largest metro area in the US and they need to act like it. For me they could show their commitment by making a large capital investment into the park that is not hand me down roller coaster. -
Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
ferk60 replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I believe you, it seems like like a great park. I wasn't knocking it at all. I was rooting for the park and saying it seems unfair that they don't get more prime time treatment. Cedar Point is also pretty clean, gets infrastructure and capacity improvement yearly on top of getting world class attractions It is clear they are the flagship but ValleyFair also should be a flagship. -
Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread
ferk60 replied to the_rock401's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I downloaded the park map on my iphone just to see the park and it looked rather small and I started looking at the Wikipedia page and reading up on the park and it looked like at some point Cedar Fair was pretty even handed with given rides to both the Cedar and the Fair part. Today it seems clear that Valley Fair is a flagship property in name alone. However there looks like plenty of room for growth and it looks like it is getting some more attention. -
Knott's Voyage to the Iron Reef Media Day!
ferk60 replied to ILoveRides's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Great trip report, not the ride for me. If I had a family I am sure my children would get a kick out of it however the ride is a great use of space and Knotts looks like they spared no expense in planning and marketing the ride. Id go to a park with you two any day, you two make it look so fun! -
Best B&M and Best Intamin
ferk60 replied to grsupercity's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
What a tough question Intamin- Intimidator 305- Best coaster in the world, that I have been on. B&M- Alpengist is the best I've ridden. It was smooth and had great inversions and theming RMC-Goliath *I have never been on a RMC, I know I haven't live yet, however based on pictures it looks sick. Twisted Colossus is not open yet but that would probably be my 1 or 2
