  1. Apparently our Halloween-film was a little too scary for Youtube, so it got banned. But here is a link where you can see it: https://www.expressen.se/tv/livsstil/allt-om-resor/se-lisebergs-laskiga-reklamfilm--som-youtube-stoppade/ /Pontus
  2. Just gonna leave these here for you... Train no 2 is out in the sun Drop Drop
  3. Hi, If you wanna visit Liseberg just for riding Valkyria, you should wait until the late part of the Summer season. Unfortunately I don't have any opening date to give you, but if you visit us in June you will probably be disappointed...
  4. Can´t believe this was 1.5 years ago. Wow, the time really goes fast... I think I had 10 different groups that year to guide around the park, but I remember you guys. Wanna know why? The "Stroopwafles"! They were soooo good Nice to see my old Kanonen again. I wonder if the other (yet officially secret) park will keep the control booth as it was. It had a really smart and ergonomic design. I am glad you liked the tour with me and Jonas, we really appreciate the feedback! Hope you will come back someday and test our new coaster Valkyria, it will be great! /Pontus
  5. Thanks everyone for the positive comments about my backstory of Kanonen Fun to hear that you found it interesting. I think that the new park will say how much they paid for it when they reveal the building-plans for the public. But when Liseberg built Kanonen in 2005, the price was 50 000 000 kronor, (ca €5 000 000) and that is around €6 000 000 in today's value. I do not have any information about improvements, but I think the new park has to build some new supports. Kanonen was partly built on the roof of a house. So some supports are quite short, and some are quite long. Which means that it is impossible to build it just on a flat ground.
  6. Kanonen 2005-2016 I began to work at the station of Kanonen in 2008. Wow, it was probably the best working place in Liseberg. We had so much fun! You launched the train from the station and because of that you were always entertained by the guests. First you had reactions from the guests in the train, and then you had the reactions from the guests that were waiting on the station. So you know exactly who you could scare to make them scream like there was no tomorrow. And because of all the "dead time" when you had to be in the saftey zones, you had a lot of time when you could chat with your coworkers. Or joke with the guests Even if Kanonen was the slowest of the Intamin launch coasters, it had a really powerful kick ass launch (0-75km/h in 1.8 seconds). Because of the short lenght of the launch, it felt much faster. If I compare with Furius Bacco at Port Aventura, I think that the launch at Kanonen was much better. Even if the top speed at Furius Bacco is 130km/h. In 2011 I got the job as Head operator, which means that I sat in the control booth over the track and had the responsibility for what happens on the station. You could see everything from there. I had 5 screens for cameras over the area and 2 touch-screens. The touch screens were connected to the computer and I could actually solve a lot of things with that without calling for a mechanic or a electrician. I have been told that the speed is controlled automatically on most launch coasters from Intamnin, but not Kanonen. It was I that controlled the speed for every train I sent away. I had two buttons on the screen that said "faster" and "slower". I also had a boost for empty train. (If I activated the boost, the screen was filled with a red blinking text saying "no passengers allowed") So how did I know how to choose the right speed? Well, experince tought me. I looked at the train and tried to see if it was filled with bigger people (less speed) or with smaller people (more speed). But the weather was also important in my calculations. If it was a warm sunny day, the trains was running fast and I could use the same speed. If it was raining, cold or windy, well then I had to pay more attention on how the people looked like and maybe change the speed more often. And if the train wasn't filled, then I know for certain that I needed higher speed. So did I ever got a rollback? Yes of course, it happens a few times every year. But the reason was almost always the wind or the oil pressure. And for every person that has experienced a rollback, you know that it is just an awesome feeling and not dangerous at all. So why didn't we always use the maximum speed? Because of the compact layout. If the train passed the Tophat too fast, the experience in the rest of the track whould be very rough. So I had a speed target that was 2.2m/sec over the tophat. Most of my trains got over with a speed of 2.0-3.5 m/sec, but sometimes it was slower or faster. The fastest was for example when TPR visited us and I made a special train that had the speed of around 5m/sec over the TopHat So even if Kanonen was a really popular ride to work at, the guests has not find it so interesting the last years. You have a great launch, but thats it. They think Helix is much funnier (even if Robb disagree with that opinion ) So I think it was the right time to replace it with something different, and I really looking forward to 2018 when Valkyria opens. So what happens with Kanonen now? Well, it is sold and the new location will be outside Europe. I will not say where, it will be revealed when the time is right... I left the Ride department last year and is now working with guestservice and are also guiding groups of enthusiasts and companys that are visiting the park. But I still had the opportunity to jump in a couple of times during the year and "shoot" some trains and that was allways fun. I have spent more than 8 seasons at that station and I have a lot of memories from those years. Like all of the dropped items I have found and collected under the track. Phones, keys, money, wallets, a fake breast(yes you heard me, a fake breast. And no one said that they had dropped one) knives, hearing aid, fruits, cameras, bottles, toys, etc. Yes, people are stupid... Hope that that gives some fun info about Kanonen. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. During September-October there can be very few guests in the park. So we in the staff had to entertain ourselves between the trains. For example: Dance the Macarena, have a race in who can unbuckle the safteybelts in the shortest time, or just put your collegue in a seat and let her sit there for a couple of minutes... This is back in 2010 and describes the good atmosphere among the staff the minutes before we open for the guests. (be aware of the older restraints! We had 3 versions, and this was the first year with version 2. The 3rd restraint model was actually improving the ride experience a lot. But the space for the head was smaller which was a problem for people with glasses or big heads when they pulled it up or down...) December 30 2016. Me in the control booth just after sending away one of the last trains ever. (think it was two more trains after this before we closed) I wish that every control booth was as good as this one. Big screens, great view, easy to reach everything you need.
  7. So you will be here for two days? Wow, so much fun to do Well, it sounds like I should ask my boss for a day off. I've heard a rumour that TPR whould come back this year, but no one has told me when. Will you be 99 crazy people in the group this year also?
  8. I can't tell you anything about the new rides, it's a well hidden secret (for now...) But I do have some great news for you! For the first time ever, Balder will be open during the winter season I couldn't say anything about it until it got official. But now it is... So lets hope for a warm and sunny winter with dancing snowmen on green hills
  9. Do Liseberg have a philosophy of "So our park is awesome already but how can we make it even more awesome?". Yes, we do!
  10. Yes! Liseberg bought it in 2013, for 250million SEK. (30million USD). And the factory has so far not been useless, even if it's old and empty. It has actually been used as a film studio/sound stage during the year.
  11. I can confirm that we WANT to expand and build an indoor waterpark with a hotel. But that doesn't mean that we WILL. There are also other options. The owner, the city of Gothenburg, must give their thumbs up before we can proceed with a more detailed area plan. And that can take a while.... There is also a chance/risk that we put the waterpark in a trash can, and develop the area with more flat rides and maybe a coaster. But I can assure you that if we get the thumbs up for the waterpark and hotel, it's gonna be great. Really great The pictures you see from the newspaper does not even give a hint of how amazing it would look like. I promise that I will come back with more "official" information as soon as possible. But as I said, it can take a while...
  12. Do not poke the bear in his den! Thank you Chuck, I will take that warning very seriously!! I promise that I'll finish, because I really do want to cover the rest of the parks. Most importantly, there's a little park in Sweden that you might know something about, Pontus. Oh, I've no idea what you are talking about. A park in Sweden? Sorry, that description doesn't ring any bells with me
  13. Here are some sunny greetings from Pontus, the guide at Liseberg for the TPR Scandi-trip. It's working!!! Most of the theming is in place, so I can say that we are more than ready for the Media day (tomorrow). Unfortunately I will not be there and say hi, but I'm sure that "Lond" (Marcus) will have the chance and take some great pictures on the ride and the surroundings. Mechanica is an updated version of the Star Shape from Zierer. And with updated, I mean faster. The ride is great! The best flat ride I've ever been on. The music is epic, powerful and stands in the same high league as the score to Helix. IMAscore has done it again I am really excited and curious of what the GP will think of it. Will it be to much for them? How many of them will puke? I hope that I will meet some of you during the summer season wish us luck!! Best part of my job, you are the first one to try
  14. Is it time to open the bottle of wine yet? Or has it transformed into eggnog so we have to wait until christmas?
  15. Thank you Bill! It was a great day and it was pure fun to guide you guys around. And for help to refresh your memory, my name is Pontus Great trip report, I'm looking forward to more photos!
  16. Great to hear, thank you! You are allways welcome back whenever you have time for a visit! It was an amazing day, and probably the best working day I've had since I started to work at Liseberg in 2008. I know that the next trip is planned for 2016, but 2016 is just too far away. So I really hope that I meet someone from TPR a little bit sooner I really like this picture, Thank you Hanno!
  17. I love the new spelling of my name!!! You actually spell it Pontus, but Pontous sounds much more like a TPR-name Maybe I should change? And while I still speaking about name changes... I know that I promised some of you to make a try to change the name of Lisebergbanan to "The banana-coaster". I agree, that name is much easier to pronounce. But sorry guys, it didn't work
  18. Look at this youtube clip from The Simpsons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HFRYyQtW_w Just compare with the Wildfire's Logo. Everything fits in. The only thing that´s missing is the fire...
