  1. I can definitely see an expansion for Soak City. Perhaps we will see the dated challenge park attractions moved/removed to make way for new/relocated slides. Water parks are popular now and a lot of places seem to be doubling down on them. Soak City leaves a lot to be desired considering it is attached to "The greatest amusement park in the world". Also, the Mantis renovations are happening. It already has paint swatches on the track.
  2. Anybody else notice how many more ads there are this season? I didnt attempt a count, but it seams like a fairly dramatic increase. Hoping this doesnt become a trend.
  3. I'd say this paint is a slam dunk for new Mantis next year. I could see them re-naming it since "Mantis" was a last second name anyway. Like I said earlier, expect to see Gemini Midway esq. treatment coming to this midway. More colorful lights and general improvements. 2016 will be the year of renovations. Anything not up to "Cedar Par" will be brought there.
  4. I will try and clear this up as I have a good friend who works at the ride. Magnum has two sets of brakes, the safety brakes and the ready brakes. The safety brakes are the brakes that slow you down directly after the final tunnel. The ready brakes are the ones you stop on right before the station. Typically, the ride almost never stops on the safety brakes. However, if something is happening on the station (guest doesn't fit, scared child, throw up, etc) that slows dispatch, there will be a train in the station and the ready brakes. If this is the case, the ride will stop on the safety brakes. Since you have a lot of speed and not a lot of time to slow down, you slam into these brakes pretty hard. Its actually pretty painful. These brakes have to be manually released once the train on the ready brakes has moved into the station and the block becomes available. For whatever reason, this procedure (that only takes moments) needs to be logged as downtime with the park. This is why you see Magnum's crew rushing everybody and hustling non-stop. TLDR: Safety Brakes: brakes after tunnel. Train only stops there when stacking two trains. Hurts a lot. Ready Brakes: brakes right before station. Supposed to stop there.
  5. Magnum opened with 'scarlet red' track and was repainted to 'molly orange'. Its more redish than orangeish. I say its red when describing it to people.
  6. Some areas of the park look great, but there is no excuse for the way the KK/ZJ plaza looks. Its so terribly put together that I cant help but feel like its just temporary. Almost like the midway will be extended down where the extra-long Zumanjaro que is now and a new expansion will open by the former Safari entrance. Then the midway will reconnect with PDC where Rolling Thunder's station used to be. Lots of room for big additions back there. But in reality Im just in denile
  7. I tend to defend GADV quite a bit, but geeze what a horrible park its turned into this season. Everything, everywhere feels temporary and half planned. I visited the park for the first time since opening week the other day and was heartbroken by the state of the park. The area by Kingda Ka is disgusting. I have never seen an area featuring a new ride so half-assed before. Easily the ugliest area of a major park I have ever seen. This is a shame since GK was once wonderfuly themed. The good news is that KK and Jaro not operating at the same time doesn't impact capacity as much as expected. But operations being only slightly impacted shouldn't be a trip highlight
  8. If your trying to say that Cedar Point isn't taking an attendance hit, your wrong. This season has shown the lowest numbers in years. Ask any ride supervisor how their ridership this year is going. From my knowledge, next season will see lots big change. Cuts in food prices, relocation of attractions, waterpark expansion, updates to existing rides, heavy marketing, and more night action (lights/etc). Id say Mantis update with a new version of B&M floorless trains is 9/10 happening. RMC Mean Streak has about a 4/10 chance. Mean Streak removal is not happening.
  9. Heading to the park for the first time today. Glad to hear that Flight of Fear was running because I really enjoyed the one at Kings Dominion. Hoping I dont get hit too hard with crowds, but its probably inevitable this weekend.
  10. I overheard some rumblings about "New Mantis" while walking behind two ride ops today. Everything was said in such a matter of fact way. I understand that most employees know nothing about future additions but ot sounded like they knew what they were talking about. Take it with a grain of salt, but I think a floorless Mantis could be on the way. Perhaps B&M have given the floorless train a revamp similar to the new invert trains. Perhaps these new floorless trains were designed to also be able to replace stand up trains (see heartline issues). Could be a good way to bring some life back into a rather unpopular ride. Could also see other parks with stand-ups doing something similar. Besides that I had a wonderful time at the park today. Crowds were fairly light for peak season.
  11. Interesting pictures. If im not mistaken, one of those pictures show a pinwheel from Jumpin' Jack Flash on the midway. I cant identify the other two cars. They look clean and freshly painted. Wonder why they are there.
  12. Perhaps the building more picnic space. If I recall correctly, some was removed for Gatekeeper. They could be replacing some of the lost space.
  13. Now that there is an upcharge atttaction inside the regular park, does anyone think we might see challenge park disolved entirely? That would open up space for a new addition for the park or soak city. I could see soak city growing into where challenge park is. Couldnt be too difficult to find a new home for ripcord and skyscrapper. Get rid of go karts and you free up some locked up space. Doesnt seam to crazy with a lot of parks focusing on waterparks recently.
  14. Im at the park today and magnum's last car on one train is torn down to bare bones on the transfers. Anybody know whats going on?
  15. Still not sold that this is going through until vertical construction starts. If everything was slam dunk for this thing to open the people connected to it would not be hush hush about it. In fact, they would be blabbing and hyping as much as possible. My guess is that it is very early in planning and there are more ends untied than deals made. The fact that it is not part of an established park makes me question just how probable it's opening is. Seems like a very "all eggs in one basket" type deal that investors avoid like the plague.
  16. Magnum's bins have moved from being turned backwards in the station to under the station, so it is safe to assume that they are gone for good. A friend of mine who works at magnum said that they are now having issues with people jumping over fences to sneak bags into the queue. Also the area in front of the ride is being littered with peoples bags and cups. I understand there is only so much the person at the front entrance can do to stop this behavior, but I would like to see these left items thrown away or taken to lost and found to be claimed. It is annoying to pay for a locker and then see some kids stash their things behind a bench.
  17. Magnum removed the bins from the station. They are currently directing people witg bags and other stuff to the lockers by TTD. I can see Cedar Point going the way of Six Flags on loose articles.
  18. I made it out to the park this morning. Despite the weather, crowds were fairly light and most rides were walk ons. A good day in my book. Since lines were so short, I rode BTR in the front row for the first time in a while. All I can say is WOW. Ive ridden BTR atleast a hundred or so times, but today was the best runs Ive had on it in a while. Smooth and forceful as heck! El Toro was running very rough (for El Toro, would be GLASS for any other woodie). I think the rain and wind had more to do with this rougness than anything. Ride still delivers big time in the ejector department and thats all that counts! Also had a good run on Green Lantern. Usually I skip it, but Im glad I didnt! I was able to sneek a peak at Zoomanjaro's queue from El Toro's station. The area is receiving lots of foliage and is looking nice. There was a bunch of guys in hardhats and button down shirts suffling about where Rolling Thunder's station and lift used to be. The enthusiast inside of me wants to spectulate, but I honestly have no clue what could be going on. The absolute highlight of my day was Houdini's Great Escape. I guess it was everyone's first time or something because they were all VERY impressed. At the rides conclusion, some peoples faces were a combonation of seeing a beautiful painting and a crazy magic trick. Ive never seen people so amazed in my entire life. It was almost... beautiful...
  19. I guess that will be a bit clearer to see once the loading platform is completed.
  20. Those trains look really great 3 across. I would imagine that all 3 have to be loaded at the same time. Afterall, you cant have guests running around where cars are freefalling. This is a bummer as loading 1 train while the other/s are in cycle would keep the line moving non-stop. Has the park released any capacity estimates?
  21. I can see this project easily falling through. Its a huge investment and would be difficult to really see the return on it. Sure you would have the tallest coaster, but Formula Rossa doesn't exactly prove that the ____-est correlates to profitable. Might be a tough sell to investors to get funding.
  22. I bet if you won a Porsche, you would complain about the backseats. Great Adventure is not Universal or Disney. It is a seasonal, regional park. One of the best looking with some of the best themed areas out there. Show me a regional park with a themed area on par with The Golden Kingdom. That level of detail is unseen elsewhere. The park is located in the woods with a creek running through it on a lakeside. Many parts of the park are visually stunning. The park treats employees well (2010 crew) which is incredibly un-walmart-like. But hey, I'm arguing with the guy who by his analogy expects retail stores to have theming and detail. There is lots of real issues to discus so lets get back to them.
  23. When I walk into a very clean park with several 25 million dollar plus rides and lots of fairly happy employees, I don't think walmart. When I am paying $8 for fries and $35 for a sweatshirt, I do not think Walmart. Have you ever worked for either Walmart or Six Flags? If so, I would love to hear some real reasons why Six Flags is anything like walmart in anyway shape or form. Honestly, how much more complex of a lighting package do you need on the ride? Top Thrill Dragster has essentially the same exact thing and I have never heard any complaints. There are homes within 10 feet of the park's borders and an airport a few miles away. I doubt either of those would really appreciate a thousand lights on a 456ft tall structure. There is a difference between practical and cheap. If a single spotlight is all you need to do the trick, than I wouldn't call having just that "cheaping out". I don't understand all of the sudden Gadv hate. Yeah, the park is going through some growing pains rights now and has some weird dead ends, but in reality its got one the best collections of rides out there and a fairly nice atmosphere. Golden Kingdom and PDC are two of the nicest areas in any Six Flags or Cedar Fair parks out there. Both cost a fortune and nobody wants to bring them up when comparing the park to Walmart. End rant.
  24. I have ridden Nitro at least 10 or 11 times this season. I can't say that I have specifically been on train C as I never took note of it. In fact, I think two of of my three trips held the third train transferred off. This may be why I found every ride to be just as smooth as always. I have noticed Nitro's ride operations dropping in efficiency over the past few season. Its almost depressing to see a 3 train B&M hyper with a 15 minute station wait.
  25. Just to help visualize the proposed expansions. The green line is the new path of Park Blv. and the Red is approximately the part that would be absorbed by the park. Makes me wish they held off on the boardwalk and had put it here. It seems like an eye sore in the middle of the park. Regardless, it seems like Hersey has something big planned.
