I wouldnt say Canadas Wonderland is Cedar Fair's test park by any means (especially considering it was owned by Paramount up until a few years ago). Sure, they were the first with a dark ride, but thats pretty much it. Cedar Point's additions almost always break some kind of record, plus they had the first Giga, Strata, hyper, Terra, one of the first hybrids (Gemini), etc. It would make more sense for the first RMC to go to Cedar Point I think, and knowing them they'd probably make sure its a tallest, fastest, or steepest...if they overlayed Mean Streak they could definitely go for longest. I would say Cedar Point has more "new" additions than CW though.

The thing is, there will have to be trims about every 100 feet or so (vertically speaking), and that's being generous. Because of the nature of the ride you're constantly turning, so the faster you go, the heavier the positive Gs will get. Imagine a ride where every time you pick up any serious speed, you hit a trim or a block brake and slow way down again. True, you have the added thrill of being so high up, but that'll only last for the first few elements. This is why people are skeptical. It might still be a fun ride, but it'll definitely be an interesting design challenge. Any element you have, any airtime hill, whatever, must be done while also turning. Just because the ride is generally on its way downward, that doesnt mean there can't be upward slopes along the course of the layout. Sure, there will be parts needed to be slowed down, but theres nothing suggesting the whole track will be a big downward slope. It can use momentum to slow down several times with some upward spiraling elements. -

^I agree that height alone DOES NOT guarantee a good roller coaster. But at the same time, just because this has a 500-foot lift hill DOES NOT guarantee itll be a lame ride that is trimmed to death and boring. Neither side knows enough about the ride yet to make the call. -

^first off, I definitely thought you meant to say "block brake" because thats all thats really guaranteed on a ride like this. Nobody said it would be trimmed, and theres no reason to think so yet, especially if Schilke is involved. The rest of your post is just full of some weird kind of bitterness toward a ride...a ride of all things. I guess I dont understand. But one thing for sure is that you cannot just assume its a toboggan ride down an observation tower. Nothing besides its height and the details of its adjacent complex have been revealed yet. I see your avatar is of Nemesis...who wouldve thought a B&M in a hole would be what it was until you actually rode the thing? In any case, at least this will be a solid ride deserving of tallest COASTER title, rather than the blink-and-its-over Intamin stratacoasters -

I just really hope that the layout gets announced for this thing and everybody with ^this^ attitude goes crazy because it's so great and they need one closer to their house. If I wanted to go on Trim Brake: The Ride, I'd go on TH13TEEN, if I really wanted to ride an El Loco, there are 2 located not very far at all, in Yorkshire and France. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit has several block brakes and thats not a bad ride by any means. And imagine taking some of those elements 300 feet up with nothing but the ground below. I dont get the negativity already surrounding a ride whose layout hasnt even been announced yet. Comparisons to High Roller and Thirteen dont even make any sense. Is there maybe some envy toward Orlando that it will become a roller coaster destination in addition to its status as the theme park-destination? Or has everyone just taken the "judge a ride by its POV" concept a few steps further and started judging rides based on their incomplete and non-official concept arts? -
Its JK Rowling's doing. The first time Universal courted her, they took her to an HHN event...only to be greeted by someone puking right before them. JK Rowling isnt a fan of the event or its party-like atmosphere, and Im sure she will never sign off on having her baby used for HHN. So I understand. But this is going to close off a sizable portion of the park for Horror Night. I wonder how Universal will cope with the crowds. I find it ironic that JK Rowling's dislike of the "party-like atmosphere" at HHN could actually make the situation worse. Yeah I hear you. But its really not that big a chunk of land theyre closing off. In the past, the space occupied by Diagon has been construction (for the last two years) or a humongous attraction that people couldnt walk through and whos capacity has been made up for by Transformers. So I dont think itll be a crowding issue, and with the London waterfront now open it will be less of a dead zone than the previous two years. True, its a pretty big waste of potential revenue to have a widely-attended event miss out on a brand new area that brings in gobs of money but Jk Rowling has Universal by the cahones. Also, HHN's audience isnt really there to ride Harry Potter rides, and even then they can just as easily do so before the event starts with less crowding.

This will be in no way similar to High Roller at all. High Roller started out high and ended high...on a platform. This one will start at ground level, climb 500 feet, and end ag ground level. Its an entirely different experience. I don't recall ever writing that the experience would be the same. I made a comparison about the height because some people commented that the height (not the change in elevation) would make it exciting. ...but thats like saying Maverick wouldnt be any good because it's the same height as Blue Streak (or whatever its as tall as). You can compare any two rides, but that doesnt mean it makes sense. Literally the ONLY similarity between this and High Roller is the aspect of it being attached to a tower. The two are completely different. -

Do Ferris Wheel's typically offer a "thrill"? I dont understand the difference between Ferris wheels, indoor vs outdoor or in a park vs not in a park. In any case, its still more fun than riding an elevator to an observation deck. I could also make the argument that the top floor of the Peabody would render the Eye unnecessary. Youre also forgetting that the London Eye does pretty well despite being in an urban area with large surrounding buildings. -
2013 Theme Park Attendance Report
OrlandoGuy replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
A big deal is being made out of nothing with this whole decrease in SeaWorlds attendance. The park's revenue INCREASED in the last year; guest spending was projected to be as high as ever. SeaWorld doesnt give two craps about attendance when theyre making record-number revenues. Thats all that matters anyway. -

What? A Ferris wheel and 500-foot roller coaster are two completely different things. The Orlando Eye is going to be an attractive ride for non-coaster riders, riders weary of the Poler Coaster's height, and people just looking for a slow and relaxing ride in general. With your logic, any park with roller coasters can't have Ferris Wheels and thats obviously not true... By the way there is an indoor Ferris wheel smack dab in the middle of Times Square in Toys R Us and that does just fine...its a ride, its different from an observation deck. The Poler Coaster wont cannibalize the Eye anymore than the Peabody or glass elevators at the Marriott World Center would. -
RMC - How much is too much of a good thing?
OrlandoGuy replied to Kenny B's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The way I see it, when people ask for an RMC for their own parks, they aren't also asking it to go everywhere else. People still want to keep the mystique in tact I think...they just want their home park to get one of the few new RMC's the country hopes to get. Its usually different users posting about getting the new rides in different threads. -

"Anyone here" should realize that, sure. But the whole point of opening dates is to let the majority of the parks audience know when they should travel. If that wasnt the whole idea, why would they bother setting dates at all? Delays happen, and thats fine. But its wrong, IMO, for a park to not let the people who are counting on the deadline they set for themselves know whats up.
-
^yes, a few month delay is a drop in the bucket considering the ride will run for so long. But for guests who planned their trip around a opening date that has been set for so long, its a pretty big deal to not have the ride open. I'm not blaming the park for a harsh winter or delays...but it is 110% their fault for sticking to an opening date knowing full well the date was unrealistic (when the construction workers started working overtime, Six Flags clearly knew they were way behind schedule). The problem is leading people on for so long only to disappoint them. The fact that they didnt announce the delay in time for most people to rearrange their travel plans is where they really went wrong, IMO. And any other chain to do so is also at fault. But to the person who listed the Cedar Fair delays...those are a bit incomparable. Cedar Fair usually announces delays and compensates for them.

Yes, back to Diagon... Word around the water cooler is that employee previews will be toward the end of the first week of June, with limited softs happening the week after...if everything goes on schedule. At least thats what I have heard. Barring employee previews, I would suggest anybody in the area try to hang out in the park around the second week of June...could be a very good chance you get to go inside.

^ I dont think you know what you are talking about anymore.
