  1. Apparently Kings Island is getting the longest invert in the world for 2014. Also, I heard Cedar Fair may purchase the Paramount parks
  2. Steel: Kingda Ka Wood: El Toro (SFGadv)
  3. Honestly, I doubt CP would care much. SFMM is not competing against CP for attendance, so if SFMM built a poler coaster, it would not do much effect on CP. Oh, I think they would care. And here's why. The park has had the first coasters over 200, 300, and 400 feet. If they didn't have the first over 500 feet, i'm sure they'd be frustrated. However, that being said, they probably would just build a taller one than SFMM. In an interview with Rob Decker, the Cedar Fair VP of planning/design, he said that CP is not actively pursuing records, but if they have a project at hand and are close to a record, they will try to break it, as long as it doesn't change the ride experience in a bad way. From that I don't think CP would build a Poler Coaster to break a theoretical SFMM record, unless they already had a project in the books before they knew any details of an SFMM coaster. CP, to my knowledge, has pretty much stopped comparing themselves to SFMM. SFMM, on te other hand, recently announced they "Beat CP" as America's roller coaster capital.
  4. I'll try that, because its a recreation I'm obviously not looking to reach the goal as you said. I had set it pretty easy, but it still shut down my park after about 20 minutes of gameplay. I don't want to open it to peeps until a good chunk is complete to "peep test," so I 'll see how it goes. Edit: It worked! Thanks guys. Once I get a good chunk of the entrance plaza and Main Street done, I may start a new thread to get some feedback.
  5. I gotta say, I'm impressed. I didn't expect SF management to want to invest much at all in this relocation. SFA has really been cleaning up the past few years- Superman, Batwing, and now Jokers Jinx, Falling Star, and Ragin Cajun have all been repainted quite recently. Edit: Of course, can't forget Apocalypse!
  6. Joker's Jinx- SFA
  7. I'm looking at doing an SFA recreation in RCT2, but after I made the scenario and began the entrance plaza, my park was shut down due to a rating below 700. After looking back in the scenario editor I couldn't find anything to remove that restriction. Am I missing something, or is there a better way to do this? Once I get a good start on it, I may start a new thread to show updates and ask for suggestions. Thanks!
  8. Kingda Ka- Six Flags Great Adventure
  9. I would guess that people always used to just drive past the safari and hurry on to the park, rather than stay in their car for another hour after already driving a long way to get there. Now that it's just like another ride, people are like, "Ooh! A line to stand in! Let's go get in it!" Even though before, you could stay in your nice air-conditioned car the whole time, and now you get to bake in the sun in line, and then bake in the sun some more on the ride. Moral of the story: People are dumb. I'm not sure where you assessment of people are dumb comes from based on SORA. While I agree people are dumb, but I don't think that has anything to do with their desire to experience SORA. Throughout the 70's and 80's many patrons were not as self absorbed and in love with their cars, so hey didn't mind driving down a dusty road encountering animals. It has been known for years that many people were unwilling to drive their "nice" cars into the safari and attendance dropped. SGFAdv even tried selling upcharge bus trips a few years ago. In recent years the park has been focusing on families and SORA provides an experience for the whole family to experience together. I have seen many large family groups (ten or more people) queue up to ride together, that's what makes the ride popular. I think they have about 18 trucks (I could be wrong) and if each truck only holds 24 people and the round trip take an hour you are also looking at a low capacity ride. While the shading in the queue is not ideal, I did not find myself baking during the ride. It's a covered vehicle and the are you drive through is shaded in many places. It think most times my driver stopped, we were under a tree for shade, whether the driver knew this is not I'm not certain. And speaking of the tour guides, I found mine quite amusing and informative. The tour guides offer insight that would not not get driving through in your own car so that is a clear improvement over the safari. Thanks for the explanation, I hadn't really thought about the "nice car" issue. I don't know if I'd take the time to experience the safari myself, as my time at the park is limited to about one visit per year, but it definitely sounds like a fun, interesting experience as a good break form the thrill rides.
  10. I bash Six Flags, it's what I do. Bash bash bash. However, I don't make complaints I don't feel are warrented. I was going off of this picture: And it appeared to me as though more supports had still not been added, but looking closely at that last picture it appears as though I was wrong. I stand corrected. Still don't think the added supports look that great, but at least they're symmetrical. As for the paint, I could see them having gone with a nice navy blue, or at least a more jungle-y natural color like a sandy tan. If you really think that bright holy-crap orange compliments the teal, and doesn't look like they're bolting on steel left over from some other ride, then we'll have to, well, agree to disagree. I agree with you on the color situation, I find it strange that the supports of the main tower are much lighter than the navy blue supports on the camel hump/return. However, as for the supports, I'm not sure it's fair to point a finger at Six Flags on this one. I'm sure the added support structure was designed by Intamin engineers, and while I'm sure Six Flags had some input, it was likely Intamin's decision on how "beefy" the structure needed to be.
  11. You know, I'm still not 100% sure removing RT now was the decision, that will come to me later, but the entire left side looks less, I don't know, busy, than it previously did.
  12. That makes sense, I know that Outlaw Run does have the rail on the lift hill, but that must be for evac's and safety measures like I said.
  13. Probably they decided they aren't needed and also given that these RMC's go upside down and have high banked turns it would be difficult to install them. Do they really have a true purpose in the first place? All I can think of is as a guide rail for evac's and safety measures, but are they really necessary?
  14. I'm not going to say anything about wood vs. steel, it's been talked to death ten times over. But I find it interesting that RMC coasters (or at least Goliath) don't have the side railings that look like single plank fences (not sure what they're called) on either side of the track. Is there a reason for this (extreme banking), or just stylistic? El Toro and many other extreme wooden-like coasters have these, but not Goliath.
  15. Speaking of SORA, I've never driven through the safari or SORA. I've heard it is almost infamous for nearly 3 hour lines. Why is it so popular, and so much more so than the safari was? Did the transformation make it so much better, along with the trucks, that it is sometimes more popular than every coaster? I don't have much knowledge of what was done in 2013 to SORA, and I'm curious.
  16. Again, I will tell you that "gimmicks" don't impress me. It's very rare that I get excited over the worlds ..est, ..est, ..est, ANYTHING... How often is it that something that tries to break records ends up being the world's best in a category? Magnum? Ugh, Magnum is AWFUL. I would not even THINK about going out of my way for that ride. (Sorry Magnum/CP fans, but it flat out sucks.) I usually skip it on visits to Cedar Point. (And my knees & thighs thank me!) About 50% of Magnum is waiting to see if you'll ever get over the lift.
  17. My guess is the "OMG" factor relates to speed. Outside of that, I'm clueless.
  18. Both seem like possibilites, but I don't think either really has a possibility of being a world's best roller coaster, and aren't very "Earth moving." Just a thought, they could have revolutionized the Tilt Coaster in the past 12 years
  19. Something to keep in mind. I don't get excited over "gimmicks", I get excited over solid, awesome projects that have more than just "potential" to be a "World's Best." Hmm, something not a gimmick, yet potentially something we've never seen/rarely seen. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's not a drop tower (hence the "World's Best," some could argue a drop tower is a gimmick in and of itself). Inverting/launching woodies are probably also considered gimmicks, as it provides an experience rarely found on wooden coasters. Earth moving- maybe a wooden terrain coaster reaching very high speeds? Anyone have an idea of the topography of this park?
  20. ^ Exactly! And this is the type of project that will not only put them on the map, but make them a MUST GET TO PARK in 2016. I can only think of a handful of projects in the last ten years that have done that. Just a hunch, but this makes it seem like it doesn't have to do with height. Something rather new or completely new is my guess, whether a coaster or an element.
  21. Found this earlier in the thread. Seems pretty accurate seeing as though 2 of the 6 attractions mentioned are at/coming to the park. Must be the 5 year plan. Here's my predictions using this information. Bumper Kart Racing: One of the flats that will finally open Old Country back up. The Autobahn ride that used to be at the park has a permanent structure in Old Country and it would make a lot of sense to put the ride here. I doubt the park would change their current bumper cars ride program. I see this happening in 2015. Biggest Interactive Fun House: Not to sure with this one. My guess is this is the rumored Balins Jungleland renovation. I know they removed the play structure that used to be there so it's now a pretty big open plot of land. This would be a great addition for kids similar to Seaports Foam house. I see this happening in 2016. 3D Interactive Space Coaster: This one has me completely stumped. The way it's worded makes it seem like it'll be indoors but the park already has two indoor coasters so I doubt that. Another possibility is SF loose definition of "coaster" and it's actually an interactive dark ride which would be awesome for the park. I see this going in Chillers old footprint anchoring next years opening of Old Country. Anyone have any idea what kind of "coaster" this could possibly be?! Hyper Fast Steel Coaster: The coaster we've all been waiting for. Sounds a little like Maverick at CP or even YOLOcoaster at SFMM which is the only coaster type I see the park getting. Based on the location this will be Rolling Thunders replacement. What really excites me is the length and speed. I think this will start to expand the park toward the Safari/Baboon area. My guess on manufacturer is either Intamin, Mack, or Premier. I dont see this until 2017. This is just my guess on what these attractions could be and where they'd go. Nothing is written in stone and if this is actually the 5 year plan a lot could have changed from 2011 to now. I was just looking back at this- a couple observations to consider: The first thing that popped out at me, as probably most of us, is the "hyper fast steel coaster." Are they using hyper in terms of height, as in 200+ feet, or speed, as in, well, fast? We all know what a hyper coaster is, but this doesn't sound like that, it is a very loose description. "Hyper" simply means "above," so it could be referring to height or speed. Seems like someone in the PR department was trying to keep all possibilities aside. Secondly, the bumper kart racing. Already having bumper CARS and go KARTS, not exactly sure what this is. Every one of these options was written strangely, "Biggest Interactive Fun House"? Biggest of where? It just seems like the person who wrote these either was given guidelines to write about and was confused, or was trying to keep these terms very loose, as to not let out any "Top Secret" plans. Very interesting. Anyway, that's my $.02. What do you all think?
  22. Here's an idea. Let's talk about what's coming to KD this year, or anything that's already there. That sounds good. So, back on topic, I can't say anything about Hurler since I've never been to KD, but from what other people have said, it seems like kind of painful ride. I rode it once, and from my experience, it wasn't HORRIBLE, but it certainly was one of the worse wooden coasters I've ridden. I think it is a worthy candidate of removal if need be.
  23. Or just lap bars... But I agree. They are some of the best OTSR's out there.
  24. Kinda looks like a massive wooden disk o coaster from the webcam now.
