  1. Cedar point is voted best amusement park in the world by Amusement today's Golden ticket awards. Also if you look at the USA Today poll, it's for the best theme park. Cedar point is an amusement park NOT a theme park. Cedar Fair doesn't theme a lot, and when they do it turns into Disaster Transport. Cedar Point is still in the position of best amusement park however they have lost the most coasters in one park to SFMM. I completely agree; however, if the poll is for best THEME park, there is no way you can give SFMM an edge over ANY park on that list. In the top 5, Dollywood SHOULD be in first if it based on theme parks.
  2. Just wanted to point out something I find interesting- tell me what you think. One of Cedar Point's claims to fame is being voted the "Best Theme Park in the World" by Amusement Today every year since '98. It seems that in USA Today's poll. Cedar Point is about to finish in 4th, behind none other than Six Flags Magic Mountain (as well as SFGadv and Dollywood). My question is, one, I assume these are different, unrelated polls, no? And two, does Cedar Point care/will SFMM care enough to a point that CP may try to get their record back in order with a hard push over the next few years in terms of capital investments? Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but I find it interesting, nonetheless.
  3. Join us as we look back at 5th operating season of Frontier Forest- 1979. Before I begin the update, let me ask you guys- what do you think about the park? Do you like the way I do updates, or would you like something changed? Does the park interest you? What do you want to see changed? I want you guys to be more involved in the history of Frontier Forest- let me know what you think about the park thus far! 1979 marked the first year of a three year project to beautify and revitalize the park, this year highlighting foliage and food vendors. The main midway was completely revamped underneath the Sky Ride. Over the next two years, multiple other sections of the park will receive similar treatment with a major focus on the main entrance. Over $1 million was invested in this project in 1979 alone. That was not all that was new, however. New for 1979 is Haunted Mansion- a walk through dark ride style attraction featuring costumed actors, dark hallways, and tight quarters. Haunted Mansion is fun for the whole family, but not recommended for those with heart conditions, epilepsy, or a physical disability. Guests under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. The major news for 1979 was the grand opening of Frontier Lake- a sister park to Frontier Forest located in eastern Pennsylvania, just a short drive from Frontier Forest. Frontier Lake opened with 12 attractions, highlighted by a William Cobb wooden coaster of similar construction to Forest Flyer at our very won Frontier Forest. It seems dozens of theme parks have opened up on the east coast in the last 10 years. Frontier Entertainment, Inc. may have some healthy competition in the future. On to some pictures to recap the 1979 season... NEW for '79 is Haunted Mansion- a walk through dark ride style attraction During phase 1/3 of in-park upgrades, Swan Boats received a covered station and queue New vendors by Forest Flyer New restaurant by Antique Cars Forest Flyer has gained a reputation as one of the best wooden coasters in the country Main Midway after part 1 of upgrades The Log Flume remains a family favorite, famous for its final thrilling splash The Sky Ride still has the longest lines in the park! Perhaps the views it provides are what make it so popular? A large construction area has been blocked off near Antique Cars. What could it be? The park has released the following statement concerning next year's additions: "3... 2... 1... 0-89 1"
  4. Even if you get a Flash Pass (which you should) you should run to Kingda Ka because it won't help you once you're in the station and since the ride has to be ridden in the front seat that could mean a huge wait once you're beyond the merge point. Last time we were there they were only able to run one train between each Zumanjaro cycle which amounts to about 2-3 launches every 10 minutes. Your other option with Kingda Ka is to get in line for it around 9:15 at night. Once Zumanjaro is done running for the night Kingda Ka can finally operate normally so the line will move a little faster. I don't suggest showing up any later than 9:15 because if you do you might not get to sit in the front. If you do decide to break down and ride Kingda Ka in the middle of the day remember to schedule another ride on your Flash Pass as soon as you pass the merge point, that way you can at least be waiting for something else while you're waiting for the front of Kingda Ka. Don't wait to get off of a ride before scheduling another ride. And yes, Nitro's train C is screwed up. Each car of each train has a letter and number on the side of it... if the letter is "C", don't board the train. Let it go empty or find people to go ahead of you. Besides those minor things, operations are very good at this park and you'll have a great time. What does Zumanjaro do to Kingda Ka? I know that Zumanjaro is built on the side of Kingda Ka but why does it bother the operation of KK? The state of New Jersey does not allow Ka and Zumanjaro to be run simultaneously. For every one cycle of the drop ride, 2-3 (2 when I last went) Kingda Ka trains are launched. They are loaded and unloaded while Zumanjaro operates. However, due to the length of the cycles of both rides, capacity is GREATLY reduced on both rides. I waited about 20 mins in Ka's station for row 4 while Ka was running a measly 2 trains.
  5. At one point Alan Schilke stated any low G maneuver is fair game in terms of inversions. Vertical loops are not low G inversions. Goliath's dive loop is very elongated, decreasing the forces. I would assume a zero-g roll would be fair game, along with barrel rolls as seen on Iron Rattler and Medusa. Yes, he did say that. However, if they built a dive loop for goliath, they could also do a vertical one by basically joining two halfs. The high g part is usually closer to the bottom which dive loops ad immelmanns also have. If they wanted to get rid of high Gs on the top they can make it have a little bit of weightlessness or hangtime like goliath's dive loop. I am fairly sure RMC could execute a vertical loop, but I don't see any park wanting one on a wooden coaster after the stigma it got on Son of Beast. Not only that, but I honestly think the support system on that would be rather ugly. The dive loop looks fine to me because it transitions to be inverted at an angle, but supporting a vertical loop in a similar manner would look rather odd. Maybe it's just me.

  7. Thank you! Judge Roy was a major inspiration for the design of Frontier Flyer. At that point, a full train is traveling just over 30 mph. It hasn't been an issue in terms of g's at this point, but as coasters age, there are always possibilities of alterations (trims, etc). Thanks for the tip on cropping. I'll look into it. I think the next update will make you as well as many park visitors very pleased. Thank you! Thank you for commenting, I am always looking for feedback!
  8. No in the message they actually said "Is your life boring and mundane" they said boring and mundane after a very brief pause and really emphasized those two words in the sentence I listened to the message and it honestly just sounds like regular voice inflection. Emphasized or not, it is still a very particular choice of words, and given the message is to feed speculation, I'm sure the words were chosen carefully. That's not to say they didn't do just that on purpose to throw us off. I personally don't think Fiesta Texas is getting a B&M in 2015 but it is interesting nonetheless.
  9. I like the GateKeeper format for one of the teasers. Fantastic job on this park- taking suit from real parks always makes a park more realistic. For those that don't know the GateKeeper teasers, a banner at Cedar Point in summer 2012 read, "What's taller than Mantis and makes you scream like a Banshee."
  10. Here is a (long awaited) look back at the 1978 season at Frontier Forest. New for 1978 was Forest Flyer- an out and back William Cobb wooden coaster. Standing 75 feet tall and reaching speeds of 48 mph, this traditional coaster is the tallest attraction in the park and travels through the densely wooded forest. Designed with families in mind, everyone can enjoy this airtime packed wooden coaster, and they did just that- Forest Flyer opened to great reviews and instantly became one of the most popular rides in the park. Forest Flyer entertained over 1 million riders in 1978 over its 2,500+ feet of track. The addition of Forest Flyer bumped attendance to record levels in Frontier Forest's 4 year history. Over 800,000 guests passed through the turnstiles in 1978. The red train crests the 75-foot lift hill of Forest Flyer before plummeting 70 feet at a 50 degree angle The blue train hits the brakes and returns to the station Another full train of happy riders begins the half mile circuit Hmm... a new construction fence by the Swan Boats behind the Log Flume. Watch your step! The main entrance... nothing to see here. Moving on... A final image of Frontier Forest from 1978. See you next year- maybe at Frontier Lake's opening day?
  11. Screamscape (I know, unreliable) summed up the rumors and listed two phone numbers that Fiesta Texas PR released. After dialing one of them, a "realtor" left a message. In this message, the phrase "boring and mundane" is used. Someone pointed out (don't know who or where) that this may be hinting at a possible B&M project. Not because of the words themselves, but the abbreviation- Boring & Mundane. They were only said once towards the end of the message, but these seem like very choice words for a message recorded for the sole purpose of speculation. Maybe it is a red herring (probably), but it should be considered. Check out Screamscape yourself for the speculation and phone number (I dialed it myself- it's not a scam or anything).
  12. After reading through the Fiesta Texas rumors I am very curious. I really doubt Fiesta Texas is getting another RMC coaster in the near future, let alone 2015. Someone pointed out that the choice of words used in the message played after dialing one of the numbers SFFT provided hints at B&M, emphasizing the words "Boring" and "Mundane" (B&M). Just a thought. No guarantee it is a coaster at all.
  13. Sorry to hop in on the speculation, but can we rule out a B&M coming to Fiesta Texas in 2015, given the track we've seen in pictures? The rumors are making me very curious. Six Flags hasn't installed a B&M since 2012.
  14. The next update is coming tomorrow! Join us August 4th as we FLY into the next generation at Frontier Forest!
  15. Wow you need to ride some more wooden coasters. SFA is my home park and I fully support it, but Wild One, IMO, does not live up to its reputation. I've ridden it about 10 times this year, and while not as bad as Roar, the valleys are VERY rough, and the helix is not buttery at all. Maybe I'm spoiled by El Toro nearby, but I don't see the love for Wild One.
  16. Just wanted to put my opinion on this... I have never used Flash Pass, but have used and will use again Cedar Point's Fast Lane. I will say that I think if the system was tweaked a little bit, the Fast Lane system seems very fair and is a great way for those that can't visit often to experience the park without worrying too much about lines, like myself at Cedar Point. Although I have never used Flash Pass, the re-ride policy on Platinum is rediculous.
  17. I certainly wasn't suggesting that they literally don't know how to take care of woodies, like they want to but they're too stupid ("Hank! You put the track on upside down again!"). I'm just saying that as far as their track record with maintaining woodies, they're literally the worst. Like, no chain has more examples of rides left to rot then they do. And you can't say it's somehow ok because they're only tearing down rides that are rough and terrible, how do you think they got rough and terrible in the first place? I completely agree with you. Six Flags has done a very poor job at maintaining many if their wooden coasters. However, Roar and RT were mediocre, unpopular wooden coasters in the first place. No amount of retracking would make them great coasters. I'm not saying they aren't to blame for this, but they don't necessarily need to put in the money to maintain wooden coasters like they do El Toro (though they SHOULD).
  18. Absolutely not. Six Flags sucks at a lot of things but they do seem to take decent care (for a corporate chain) of their classic wood coasters. The wood coasters that have received the the Iron Horse treatment have all been mediocre to flat out awful rides that enthusiasts only pretended to like after it was announced that they were closing but before that the rides always had short lines and very few people liked them (though I can't speak for Medusa as I don't know much about it). I nearly spit out my coffee when I read this. Of all the nice things you can say about Six Flags, taking care of their woodies is absolutely not one of them, in this or any parallel reality. Six Flags puts their money where they think they can get a good return. Roar ha had some retracking, but the second half is still terrible. Six Flags has thrown much more money on rides like El Toro in terms of maintenance because it is what makes them more money. I wouldn't say Six Flags is bad at taking care of woodies, rather they take care where needed. If they took better care or wooden coasters like Roar and Rolling Thunder, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Yes, the rides tools a beating, but only because Six Flas didn't see them as priorities, where as rides like El Toro have been treated differently.
  19. ^ Wow- I believe this is the first physical proof that SOMETHING may happen to Manyis in 2015. Even if its just paint freshening of the same colors, which is not what's happening. Still not sold on floorless trains though.
  20. I rode towards the front (row 3 or 4) of train C the last weekend of June. I did notice the rattle everyone has talked about, but it certainly didn't ruin a great ride for me. Granted, I didn't ride in the back, but even with the rattle, Nitro is one of the best rides in the park, and probably still in the top 5 B&M hypers.
  21. The main entrance will be addressed sooner rather than later. There certainly are ideas to make it a little more inviting, and I'll take this into consideration. I will not be making any more updates until the first week of August. I'm heading out of town tomorrow, so don't expect anything for about two weeks. Thank you!
  22. I honestly don't EVER see this happening. Cool as it may be, a good part of the peninsula is surrounded by a two lane road, another part by a beach, and the far end is covered by campers. Nit only is there to really a good spot for this, but I can only imagine the cost of doing that would be outrageous. And IMO possibly an eyesore.
  23. Keep in mind, SFA does have three water rides not in the water park, which is a very solid water park, I might add. SFA will more than likely get a Skyscreamer in 2015, which i think will be a welcomed addition. They need something in the thrilling flat rides department. Outside of this, I don't think a new coaster is as far away as you may think. I'm not saying it'll come in 2015 or 2016, but I don't think they'll be completely ignored in the future like they were from '02 until '12 in terms of coasters.
  24. Two updates in one day! In comes 1977, along with Enterprise, which is exactly what it sounds like- a HUSS Enterprise. This thrilling flat ride opened up along with an extension of the midway past Antique Cars. Enterprise wasn't the biggest news of the year, however. The largest construction zone ever spotted at Frontier Forest was placed mid-year. Also, some VERY exciting news from Frontier Forest: Beginning in 1979, Frontier Forest will become the flagship property of Frontier Entertainment Company, Inc. with the opening of a sister park and separate-gate water park located in eastern Pennsylvania. "We are ecstatic to announce the future opening of Frontier Lake, a combination theme park and water park which will be located in Pennsylvania. With the success Frontier Forest has enjoyed and the excitement it has created, we are just as excited to bring that enjoyment just a short road-trip away in the beautiful state of Pennsylvania." "We are dedicated to continue improving and expanding Frontier Forest in the coming years. There will still be a huge focus here at Frontier Forest, and we will strive to provide families a relaxing day to enjoy themselves and feel as if they are in another world." Frontier Lake will open in the Spring of 1979. Back at Frontier Forest, we look back at 1977. New for 1977 is Enterprise This fence has created a lot of buzz in hopes of a major new attraction in 1978 I will leave you with a final image from 1977. I can assure you that this will look very different come next Spring.
  25. Well, Blue Streak is a common phrase meaning anything fast or rapid, so it is fitting (in a sense) and isn't just the name of a team/person.
