  1. I think that seeing the first rides were opened around 1979 that would be the true opening of the theme park. Even parks like the defunct Crystal Beach in Canada started out as only a summer resort then added rides later.
  2. Technically the park opened in 1961 as a campground. I don't know where 1964 came from. The park is really fuzzy on their info. For instance they were selling postcards of a Hooks Lagoon at another park in a gift shop last year. But back on topic, the first rides were officially installed circa 1979.
  3. It depends what you like to ride. Out of the 6 major coasters one is a boomerang and one is an slc. Neither are bad compared to others around the country. Viper, Predator, and Ride of Steel would probably be worth it and Motocoaster is a decent coaster too.
  4. I actually would not like to see Beast transformed by RMC. It kind of ruins the concept of wooden coasters. I'm all for building RMCs from the ground up or refurbishing a terrible coaster, but touching Beast just doesn't seem right. It's almost like using full topper on the Coney Island Cyclone. It's not right.
  5. Would a Yolocoaster type ride be a possibility? SF seems pretty happy with all of their recent Premier additions.
  6. This is very weird as the ride is fairly new and was a big investment. Despite the mechanical problems it is a big loss to just get rid of the ride. Unless there is another park that would be interested in buying it. My opinion is that the ride did lose a little pizzazz when it renamed Giraffica.
  7. Yeah let's waste that golden real estate for a dumpy pool. Can someone help me remember but isn't there a perfectly fine pool named crocodile isle elsewhere. If people wanted a pool so bad the park would have never built Motocoaster over the old campground pool. Whatever goes in Cuda's spot is better as the park doesn't need anymore maintenance nightmares. EDIT: I don't know if the able comment was sarcastic or not. But seeing the poster nothing would surprise me.
  8. The park did reply to a question saying that two train operations will return. Then a later post guaranteed two train ops on RoS. I think it's safe to say that Motocoaster and probably Mind Eraser will run one train. The second trains needed parts and I don't think that they are needed too much. Viper and Predator could use the extra trains to keep the line moving quick.
  9. ^I can completely see why CNL is doing this too. They own a lot of properties so obviously they have a ton of money. Of course they bought low from Six Flags and want to sell high. If they cared so much about the property they would manage it themselves and not hire companies like Parc and HFE. As for HFE they must really see something in this park or they would just have dumped it like Elitch Gardens. DL truly fits the "Herschend way" as it is one of those parks with a wilderness type theme like Dollywood and SDC.
  10. I wish that HFE would just make CNL an offer already. The park won't go anywhere with CNL in control of the park's finances. I mean lets be realistic. Isn't CNL the owner of trailer parks around the country? HFE really wants to rebuild the park, hence the Lake Monster and Sidewinder ideas.
  11. Too bad Thunder Rapids is on the other side of Shipwreck Falls. If it wasn't the park could have removed that too then have a huge plot of land to work with. I'm sure that Thunder Rapids is staying for now though.
  12. It was really only 2 years in advance as the slides were painted in 2010 and the slides were closed last year (2013). If I remember correctly the yellow slide was closed after 2011 or 12 too.
  13. Not only was it the pumps and actual mechanics that was the entire problem either. I'm sure those could be replaced if that was the entire problem. There were many small things that would go unnoticed by most too. On the yellow and green slides tubes would get stuck before the final drop. Plus before the staircase to the top of the slides a weird algae grew on the concrete which was super slippery. Plus the Floodgate Falls pool could have attracted insects like mosquitoes that can carry disease. The only thing that puzzles me is why would they pour money into painting the slides in 2010. I the ride had only a few years left, why paint them? They should have just removed them when Swirl City opened. The royal blue paint could have been put to better use (cough Ride if Steel).
  14. Don't forget floodgate falls and darienlaker's soul.
  15. Or we could just not mention them at all. Just saying. Its ok to talk about the areas development, but Cuda Falls is dead. No need to keep bringing up the past.
  16. I hope that the park isn't going to advertise the weather guarantee because correct me if I'm wrong, but the park would lose money, and new rides wouldn't be put in as often. It's also nice to see a new gm in place. Bob Montgomery seemed too much like a family man who wasn't concerned about updating the thrill rides (excluding Blast Off).
  17. Darienlaker please stop. I beg of you. I am only posting to clarify a few things. 1. Cuda falls and/ or Floodgate Falls is being torn down no matter how much you protest. 2. The Batman coaster is never being set up as stated in an earlier post. 3. Darien Lake is doing what's best for business. One person is not going to change the parks mind. If they kept Cuda Falls it would continue to be SBNO year after year. The slime pool you want to ride on will become virus infested and harm other guests. I don't wanna crush your hopes and dreams or seem like I am being rude, I'm just saying this for my sanity and the sanity of the others that read this thread.
  18. You think that is crazy? SF Great Adventure added around 20-30(?) rides in ONE YEAR during the "war on lines". Six Flags or Premier at the time was trying to build DL up to their standards. Even the small SF/Premier parks have around 6 coasters. The company had a lot of money and threw it around like it grew on trees. Then they almost went bankrupt and was forced to sell parks like Darien Lake. As for the situation DL is in right now, the park needs work all over. They made a bad impression on people during the recent transition years and many are considering not coming back unless it changes. The park should do the little things as well as adding another big coaster. The land by Cuda is gold for a new thrill ride, and the park should use it wisely as their recent new additions (excluding Blast Off) have been disappointments.
  19. There is a grassy plot behind the main parking lot that can be paved and closer spots to the gate can be made handicapped
  20. The building in front of Cuda falls may be used for the proposed Smokehouse Blues restaurant. As for the actual hill, I don't think that the slides have been removed yet, and I wouldn't expect them to develop it for a while yet.
  21. I smell 1000 foot looping coaster. All kidding aside the park is doing what's best for business and allowing a potential new popular ride to be installed.
  22. It seems like finally something good news comes out. It just makes me wonder if or when Darien replaces Cuda with a new slide complex. Darienlaker does however bring up a good point in saying that lines become extremely long for other slides. The smart move would be putting another new slide complex in the actual water park and leave Cuda's hill to be developed. The hard part in building something new would be the terrain. I don't know what could be built on a hill besides a terrain coaster.
  23. ^Thanks and one more question. If my laptop can run nolimits 2 pretty well does anyone think I will have a problem with tps?
  24. I'm sorry is this seems like a dumb question, but if I buy the early release for 30 dollars now, will it evolve as more is released, or do I still have to buy the full version?
  25. Why would expect so much when the park literally tells you it will be a new show when it said "entertainment announcement"? If it was a new ride, it would be "attraction announcement". I figured that it would only be a show as it was an entertainment announcement. However everyone on this thread and elsewhere is jumping to the conclusion that this IS the only announcement. My gut feeling is that something else is coming as a show and new ride is very doable (Ignite the Night and Blast Off plus the other rehabs last year). DL could have done a better job specifying if or if not this is the only new addition.
