Three of those coasters were used. All it cost the park was shipping and construction costs. Premier/SF brought a lot of coasters within a few years to a few different parks. Does the Great Escape deserve a new coaster? Hell yes, but so do a lot of other parks in the chain. Great Escape isn't trying to build giant rides, but they haven't forgotten about thrill seekers (Extreme Supernova last year). I'm sure when the time is right, a smaller model coaster will come and impress many people. For now, all TGE fans can do is wait.

It is definitely interesting to hear what outside eyes think of the park. Of course for the regulars on the thread, we see the park the most so we know most of the park's issues. We are also going to say good things about the park because it is our home park, and there are no other major ones within a 2 hour radius. Off topic, but does anyone have an idea when this year's announcement will be? I hope it isn't a late one like last year, but no new rides were announced. For Blast Off/Boardwalk, I recall the announcement being right around now or early in September.

Wheelie was over 30 years old and I'm sure had maintenance issues. This is an entirely new ride with little maintenance costs. Most if not all Enterprises nowadays have issues, especially with the drive systems. The main issue is that HUSS won't make parts for models that they do not make anymore. Super Loops don't have the best mechanical history, but this should definitely be a major improvement.

I don't have as much to say about this addition as the other additions. Maybe it's because we all knew what to sort of expect, or something. The coaster looks like it will be a great ride. It reminds me of Goliath (SFGAm) as it has a lot of the same elements and does so in a more compact space. I'm sure that the hometown fans are ecstatic about this, but it is nothing that I would go out of the way for immediately. Once SFNE makes another big investment, then I will come to ride it. Other than that, the coaster looks pretty good.

If this were my home park, I would be very disappointed. All that speculation and many teasers for this? Now don't get me wrong, this looks like a great concept. I always liked ZacSpins, Free Flys, etc. They are very unique. The ride itself looks like it will be fun, but it is very compact and was over-teased. I'm not bashing the ride, the park, the manufacturer, or Six Flags. I'm just bashing the teaser campaign.

Lake Compounce has not had a Rotor in a few years. (Well, technically they still -have- it, in pieces, behind the employee parking lot...) It was falling apart, several attempts to rehabilitate it failed, and they replaced it with Revolution (Mega Disko) a few years ago. Canobie Lake still has theirs, though, and it's a great one. I always get Lake Compounce and Canobie Lake mixed up. They're pretty similar. What I originally meant was Turkish Twist at Canobie. Thanks for the correction. -
As a Darien Lake fan, I feel the SFStL fans' pain. We haven't seen a major coaster installed in 15 years now. Is it fair for either park? No. But boycotting and writing negative comments never will help in the long run. You always get that person who has had a bad experience with the park, and swears that he'll never come back. But nine times out of ten, yes he will be back. If people are angry at something, they are more likely to say something about it than if they had a great time. Out of the thousands of people who visit the park daily, maybe 5 or 10 will complain online. If the park does see a lot of people who boycott or don't come back, they will surely not add a coaster for awhile. The best way to speed up the process is to just suck it up, and keep visiting. Convince your friends to go. Convince family members and co-workers to go. The more people that go, the better. If the park sees even one more guest per group that visits, it will help. Once Six Flags sees a large profit, they will spend the money and build big.

Traditional attractions

Caterpillars were great. I loved Idlewild's because they ran it with all the features, like the canopy and fans. I can't remember where, but didn't there used to be an indoor one with a space theme? I'm sure someone here will remember. Rotors were also good rides. Maintenance nightmares, but fun. Luna Park and Lake Compounce have the best currently in operation. Fantasy Island in NY and Conneaut Lake used to have great ones named Devil's Hole and Hell Hole respectively. As for fun houses, Noah's Ark takes the cake. Another great one was the Magic Palace at Crystal Beach. It had the air blowers, a tilted room, lily pads, and many other features. -
As bad as we all know it would be for the park to keep two sides running, it would be cool to see them take two different roads. Make one side very twisty, and keep the other classic and maybe add a few surprises. Or maybe they could even make the two tracks continuous and keep one station open. Two coaster experiences in one. I think that as bad as it would be, the park is looking to keep two tracks.

Huh? Your trip report is bizarre and doesn't make much sense. You seem to like most of the rides and the water park, but hate the park? Did you even ride Viper? I don't understand how it's "gross". What specifically about the park was so awful, other than the one train operations? The one train operations thing still has me in disbelief though. I imagine the upper echelons of CNL just gave up on the idea because they didn't want to spare the expense when they just want to off-load the park anyway. I gotta agree with Shavethewhales here. The trip report calls most rides really nice or good, but it calls the park horrible. Yes, there are some areas that are lacking, but overall this is the best the park has been in years. There is finally attention being payed to the maintenance area. As rides start to age now, the policy is sort of like refurbish or remove. Would it be worth keeping Ranger as is for another two years, then suffer another setback? No. The park made the right choice and are now are most likely removing it. Viper is also at its best right now. The park went out of the way to repaint it and make the trains like new. The station and queue should get some sort of work, but it is not that bad. Also on one train ops, it is for the best. I'm friends with a lot of the guys in the maintenance staff including the manager. I asked him about it recently, and he said that most rides are really good to go with two. They just ran one train this year balance out the service schedule. What I mean by this is for instance, last year RoS ran its blue train. This year it is running the red train to even things out, and so the trains will take longer to wear. He said that he can't say if next year they will run two or not, it's up to the operations department and Herschend themselves. But if they had the choice, they would like to run two.

I forget about other parks, but Astroworld and Darien Lake ran a show called Batman Thrill Spectacular. It would be to see then resurrect this show and bring it back. The free spin seems even more likely now because if you think of bats, they have wings, and this is sort of like a wing coaster. Maybe they'll use BTR as the name or even Batwing.

It was to my understanding that Herschend backed out because the park saw a decrease in attendance last year. This year, CNL didn't want to put much money into the park, and they are looking to cut back and sell some properties later this year. I could be wrong, but the custody battle of the park is really killing it right now.

^^ That's just park talk. They cannot confirm anything until they release the official plans for next year. This says nowhere that they are not removing Ranger. They said the exact same thing before removing UFO two years ago. Ranger and the Raging Seas seem to have died to the same fate. Raging Seas almost didn't pass the state inspection two years ago due to a major electrical issue. That's why on any given day, 2-3 boats weren't working. It plagued that ride for years. Now Ranger failed a safety inspection and is likely going to be removed. As for CNL, they have been blasted a lot, but they cannot be blamed for everything that has happened. IIRC they were actually pushing for Lake Monster last year, and Herschend backed out. CNL isn't completely bad, the whole custody issue of the park is what is hurting it. Both companies have different ideas, and butt heads when it comes time to announce new attractions. However for the future of the park, and I believe that most people will agree with me, Herschend is the better choice. They have experience in the industry, and have great ideas in store for the park. After having a bad rap for years, the park has seen a turnaround recently. Look at the landscaping and culture of the park. It is heavily weighed on the family and overall experience sides. CNL doesn't know much in the amusement industry, and that has hurt the park a bit in more recent years. That is why Herschend is clearly the better choice for the future.
