Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
ZeroGravity55 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Perhaps, but I would like to point out that the park has gotten hundreds of reviews on social media (especially in the last month) about how friendly the staff has been. I'm not going to guess how many employees the park staffs in one day, but everyone has different encounters and different experiences with many of their employees. While one person might not come away impressed, others might leave the park blown away with the service they've received in the same day. Yes, the park is very strict in enforcing their rules and with the clientele they draw, they have to be strict. You let one person slip on one rule, then someone else thinks they can break it or you let someone slip on a rule and someone who had the rule enforced on them see's it, then you have a upset customer. As for Thunderbird's reliability, the ride has definitely been up way more than it's been down. Not to say the park doesn't have trouble getting the ride up and running. The Voyage has been down more this season from what I've been able to tell. I'm not 100% sure on this (mostly because a lot of the camera angles have been removed off the webcam), but I'm pretty sure the generators were removed off site sometime in the last month or so and they've went back to the flywheel set up (edit: and I was wrong), which seems to still need some work as this is the second time I've read/seen something like this. Somebody posted a roll back video on Instagram a couple of weeks ago with riders aboard the train. Now as for this.... the park actually blogged about this: http://www.holidayworld.com/holiblog/2015/08/05/happy-underwear-day/ Not sure if it was the day you were there, but some things they can't help. -

The death made it on national news tonight if you don't think the same media that had a field day with numerous topics this summer wouldn't go to town with a coaster themed to a death omen when someone just died at the park... Valravn is the most vague name though. Is folklore, I couldn't find anywhere online where it was referred to as a "death omen".You guys are being ridiculous. It's a fairytale name at this point. If it is out there, the media will find it. It's not being ridiculous, it's the park preventing a potential major backlash. I guess the park should rename Raptor too since it's a bird of prey? -

Most interesting fact I found was that Thunderbird's Immelmann pulls 4 g's. I was kinda hoping to get a number on the acceleration g's on the launch, though. -

Nobody has pointed this out, but The Cedar Point logo thing from the leaked Valravn logo matches the one on the box that was sent to Robb. Edit: I should say that I believed the leak was real when it came out, but this is for those who were hoping it wasn't real. I guess you could look at it two ways. 1.) Everything that was leaked was real. 2.) The park is messing with us, which is high doubtful IMO. Don't get me wrong, I do realize that Tony and his crew at CP do like to mess with the enthusiasts from time to time, but I don't think the park would go through all the trouble to build all that stuff into a app just to mess with us. -

You know, I've read a lot of stupid crap on social media from people complaining to the park about certain stuff... Kinda like the one person who complained to the park about a ride op comforting their child because they were throwing a fit about not wanting to ride a certain ride because they were scared of it...Or like today when someone literally complained to the park about having too many trash cans (yes I just read that)... Now I would put this statement up there with those in stupidity. There are a million reasons to visit HW, but you don't want to visit again because The Legend is more intense than The Voyage in it's current state (which a lot of people would disagree with, except for the lateral junkies)? Okay... Hate to tell ya, if the park had the guts to keep the MCBR on during HWN when there was bound to be a bunch of self-centered coaster enthusiasts from a group that shall remain nameless, I don't think think they'll be turning it off anytime soon. The only way the brake will be turned off is a.) if a majority of their guests tell them they don't like it, which none of them have from what I've read. b.) The park decides to permanently "fix" The Voyage's issues (AKA RMC). Also, you seem to contradict yourself a bit: So you're not a coaster enthusiast but you rate roller coasters? Okay.. Yep. Too late now. Yep. This is all I have to say: -

After getting to experience the vests this year, I didn't have a problem with them other than them being too tight, but I never noticed that until the end of the ride. My friend on the other hand wasn't crazy about them, as they dug into his collarbone. I've seen a variety of options on the vests and I really think it just depends on how you're built. -

^ Yeah that's what I'm expecting for the most part. I saw a Instagram video from someone I know who was at the park today. Apparently Thunderbird's fog element in the launch room isn't working right now. I checked the webcam to make sure it wasn't a one time deal, and it wasn't working then as well. I hope this isn't a permanent thing. Sitting in the front row and being partially blinded as the acceleration g's hit you with full force is a very unique and cool experience. Don't get me wrong, it's not the end all be all, as there are a dozen other things that make Thunderbird a great ride, but I have to admit that I would be slightly disappointed if they had to remove this aspect of the ride for some reason. -

^ Given the recent installations by The Gravity Group, I think the trains would have worked, but I don't think they would have improved the ride experience at all. -

Just thinking out loud here. I could maybe see them adding another wooden coaster the size of The Wooden Warrior or Roar O Saurus from The Gravity Group. They could save a bit of money in the process as I believe I heard they still have their Timberliner train from The Voyage on sight at the park? Just a thought. -

^ Not at a 48 inch height requirement. Something that carries a 42 inch height requirement and is more thrilling than The Howler is something the park needs. -

Given how tall they're wanting to make the ride, I don't think this would be feasible, but I think it would be cool to see some type of launch on a dive coaster at some point. Something like this: Credit- David Palmero -

Yeah I don't know how many times that I've read or heard something along the lines of "I only got to ride 4 rides in 8 hours". Capacity is the biggest need of the park right now. As far as their next coaster is concerned (if it's steel), they need something that can run 3 trains efficiently. I keep thinking hyper, but they can only go so tall before they start to alienate who they're trying to target, which is families. I've never actually looked this up, but I'm willing to bet that TB is the lowest capacity coaster that B&M has ever built, but it is not horrible by any means. As others have stated, the park is pulling out all the stops in trying to maximize the capacity of the ride. For example, you're actually allowed to unbuckle your seatbelt as soon as you clear the first set of friction breaks following the magnetic brakes. I've checked the webcam multiple times this year and I don't think there has been a day where the park hasn't ran two trains on TB. They've built their business model on the value they offer. If they take those things away, they'll kill their business. -

^ I wouldn't read too much into it. I'd say it's pretty common for park executives to visit other parks. Took one look at the webcam today and I don't think I've ever seen that many bodies in one pool in my life. The park is insanely packed today. -

^ Actually, they still have a lot of room next to Wildebeest and Mammoth and the terrain in that wooded area would seem to fit this kind of ride really well in my opinion. -

I mean seriously, why would the park be using a coaster that isn't even built yet as an advertising piece to bring people to an event in September and the coaster doesn't open for another 8 months? -

The URL for anyone who wants to look: http://web.archive.org/web/20130907164200/https://www.cedarpoint.com/haunt Edit: and I'm pretty sure it's fake as I think Halloweekends doesn't start until the 18th of September, not the 13th as that URL would suggest.
