What's really odd is the very day before Tony told me about the flying squirrel, I'd sat my youngest son (he's 14) down to show him some Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoons on YouTube. When Tony told me the story, all I could think of was Rocky. And when I remember Wildebeest's model name is a ProSlide Hydromagnet Rocket, there was no choice but to blog about it. Oh, and Josh/HWFan - our blog photos are pulled from Flickr, so it may be you saw the still on Flickr before the blog post was fully written and published.

Yes, we're very happy with Holidog Express from Chance. It's been very well received. I guess we can say Holidog is well trained, right? Woof!

I've always liked the names Holiday World was able to come up with for their waterpark rides. They're always creative and interesting, except for Mammoth. I guess sometimes it's better to state the obvious. Thanks. It's quite an ordeal naming rides - lots of different opinions, as I'm sure you can imagine. When our Swahili dictionary started wearing thin, we moved back toward safari animals. For YEARS I'd suggested Wildebeest and was laughed at. LAUGHED AT! In fact, Wildebeest would come up when we were naming just about anything over the years, to tease me. In a weak moment, enough staff members voted to call our first water coaster "Wildebeest" that I was at last triumphant. On the day it opened - seeing all the people running/stampeding to try it out - the name seemed to fit even better. One of my last chats with Will Koch was during the HoliWood Nights photo walkback for Wildebeest - when he agreed we'd chosen the right name.

We took out the turnstile counters years ago, so I don't have a percentage to give you. But I'd say many of our Guests do spend a portion of their day in Splashin' Safari.

Actually, the start of Splashin' Safari turned the tide (pun intended) for us. With its growth we became a two-day park for many. Each added coaster (wooden and water) gave us a bump in attendance. Despite some comments to the contrary that have been carried in the media, the closing of KK did not make a big difference in our attendance. Many Louisvillians had already found us. We'll just keep being "us" and will keep adding to both parks. Thanks for all the nice comments! Paula

I'm editing this post because the comment I was responding to wasn't right above it once posted, as it was when I started writing it. Yes, it was a lengthy post. One word. So shoot me. (Where's the delete button. That's what I really wanted ...)

It never ceases to amaze me how the same ride can create such passionate reactions - both pro and con. And I'm not just talking about our roller coasters. Even when I post a photo of Frightful Falls, our log flume, I see it. After a string of "that's my favorite ride" posts, someone will come on and condemn it as a total waste of space. They get too wet, they don't get wet enough. It's too high; it's not high enough. To save my sanity (what's left of it, anyway), I stopped trying to understand this phenomenon years ago. It still puzzles me, though ...
