My thoughts exactly.. why allow some to have glasses and some not? Why allow some loose articles and not others? My wallets the size of my phone and actually weighs more.. it would probably hurt someone worse than my phone and I have a 6 inch phone Are phones the main enemy here? If they are allowing wallets and other stuff, it's making me think people were trying to pull phones out on the ride Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

It was true during my visit last weekend. I witnessed this in person.. but over that weekend they allowed you to put glasses in your pocket or shirt on SV Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

I'd hate that job, wonder how often the op was cussed out or guest argued with the op? That's like being a phone sellsman to me! I'm just glad I got my trip in before this! I know SV had nearly a two hour wait last Saturday and about 1.5 hour wait the rest of my trip.. luckily ERT was only 30 minutes but still, without a phone, it would probably feel like an hour. Glasses with a strap were considered a loose article for SV on Monday and they did in fact make you put them down a shirt or a secured pocket.. it happened to folks on both my rides, during my ERT Monday and ERT Sunday I never got on SV Saturday so not sure what they were doing then and this was my first trip to CP so not sure what they would normally do on SV Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

Nothing happened at Cedar Point but they had an incident at another cedar fair park that brought this on. I posted a news article a few pages back and it mentioned it Heck I was there MONDAY and they said secured in a secure pocket or tuck your shirt in and put loose articles down your shirt. This was on SV.. Lol it's very recent.. please note I rode SV during ERT so the policy might have taken place later Monday but it wasn't during ER I will say, Monday, glasses were told to be put down your shirt. They didn't allow glasses on SV Monday. That's a good point but they very likely won't allow them in line if they are being this strict.. hopefully they will allow you to put them in your pocket or down your shirt Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

I agree that the policies need to at least be consistently enforced to deter people. If someone knowingly pulls out their phone going up a lift hill, every warning they hear and see says they're subject to "ejection from the park without refund," so why aren't they? Too many times when someone pulls out their phone on a ride, it's just an E-stop, then the op walks up the lift hill to tell them to put it away or takes it for when they return. I was at Kings Island in April, and someone on Banshee lit up a cigarette while going up the lift hill. Other than the ride op walking up the lift hill to "scold" them and tell them to put it out, there were no other repercussions. If that's not grounds for getting kicked out, I don't know what is. When someone pulled their phone out on Gemini they just went up on the lift and grab it and then handed it back to the guest after the ride. Nothing was done about it at all.. Now line jumping on rides, I saw them call the CP Police several times on that.. I guess line jumping is more dangerous than phones being out on rides Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

I think the only stiff penalty that would work is to press misdemeanor charges if it's actually a misedmeanor in the state that has these rules for parks.. Kicking folks out of the park for a year is likely not going to work at a place like CP. They never once asked for ID buying tickets, most parks I have been to don't ask for ID when buying season passes and tickets (unless bought online).. I know several parks I could tell them my name is Bob Noname and give them cash and they would print Bob Noname on my pass and be done with it. Six Flags parks use biometrics now but I'm not even sure they play close enough attention to those for it to block a guest for a year. Please know, I'm not for stiff penalties at all.. I'm for parks finding a solution that works for everyone and can be enforced so stiffer policies aren't required Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

I would actually be willing to pay MORE money to take my phone in the line with me! How's THAT for an option? Come up with something where if you want to take your phone in line with you, you have to pay an extra $10 or $20 bucks for the day and wear a neon-glow sticker or wristband that loudly says I HAVE MY PHONE WITH ME so that when you get up to the platform, the ride ops know to take it away from you and put it in a bin. Sure, there may not be that many people who would actually pay to do it, but it's an "option" and that's all I'm asking. These parks are creative enough to come up with some of the most amazing crazy rides in the world, I refuse to believe they aren't creative enough to come up with an idea that is better for their guests regarding this issue. No I agree, people pay for premium type stuff like having phones in lines and like family dryers. Parks know this so that's a good option, pay a premium to have your phone in line.. although, I'd rather do it for free but I also expect to spend money at a theme park Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

I've heard a lot of people say it's unsafe but hey that's the hole Dollywood has dug.. I try and inform folks at the park the ride is 100% safe, although I don't try and speculate on the issue at the park with the GP Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

Like I said earlier, while this decision is mostly for safety and I know that, it's also a revenue driver and the park knows that.. otherwise they would come up with a free solution. IMO, if you had a free solution, more people would opt to use it I would think. Paying for lockers, if they have no one there check-in your pockets, I know folks, myself included, are just going to leave my phone in my pocket.. I won't get it out while in line, which is frustrating, but I won't be using the locker either, unless I don't have fully closeable cargo pockets. Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

I agree with all of this to an extent, the only issue I have is that Disney doesn't have coasters that will suck phones right out of your pocket if it isn't sealed.. nor do they have rides that can drop a phone on someone walking below (happened at a six flags park I believe). Buy I do agree, Disney has found a very good balant of safety and satisfaction.. Disney shines when it comes to guest satisfaction and they have always helped me out and I have never felt unsafe on any Disney ride or in any Disney park. Also, I do feel some of these policies at cedar fair parks, like six flags parks, are to help increase revenue from the parks, even if they are primarily for safety.. I'm sure some bean counter as figured out how much extra cash they can make by developing these policies.. I know the key purpose is for safety but if it's only for safety, a free locker system would work just fine. Or maybe first hour free or something, that way someone doesn't Jack the locker all day Edit: I say that but then almost lost my phone on rocking rollercoaster a few years ago.. I found it in the floor of the train and that's the only time I have come close to losing anything at a theme park! I guess maybe I felt to safe about not losing it Edit 2: I don't mind paying for lockers though! I'm the type that will spend 2 cycles in the family dryer to dry off.. that's a waste of money, not lockers lol Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

I think it was posted/noted that LR has a lot of new subsystems/sensors that haven't been used or used together by RMC.This was noted in an interview with Pete a year or so ago. In an interview very close to that one Pete also noted the launch was running well and they were rewiring the trains to hopefully correct a lot of issues.. this was an interview done during winter, right after it's first year I believe.. dig deep enough in these forums, I'm sure the link is available if the video is still available on the host site. I can't recall if it was for the local news or a coaster convention or what. It was some winter event It's possible a lot has happened since then and Pete, nor upper Dollywood management has really said anything about the LR issues other than they are happy with RMC and the ride is running as expected. I think that's my biggest issue with all of this, Dollywood PR and management will gladly say the ride is running as expected and they are very happy with it, until we hit these extended downtimes and everyone then goes silent. Pete even posted earlier this season that LR was running great and then a month or so later it was down for a week or two. I'm not blaming folks like Pete, he's good to us on these forums and I'm sure he isn't allowed to talk much about the issues or he would. We all know he reads these post. I'm just like a lot of us on here and wish we had more of an idea what's happening Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

This is the best solution imo.. one thing I hated at CP was no Bins, no bottle holders, no nothing.. (some rides had bins). Yeah it might slow ops down but it doesn't show them down that much.. at parks I have been to with bins, most folks have their stuff in the bin and back to the train before everyone unloading is off the platform. Cedar Point lost a bottle purchase on me because there was no place to store it on rides.. I just drunk free ice water the entire trip and maybe one Powerade a day because of that policy. I know they have the wrist bands but I wasn't interested in those personally Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

Issue here is, what keeps idiots from taking their phone out of the pouch? Like Rob keeps saying, these idiots have caused this mess, and they are the same folks that sneak phones out of zipped cargo pants, refuse to leave phones in bins, and so on Disney has these on their coasters and I use them all the time without issues. http://www.sanduskyregister.com/story/201807210011 I guess this policy is very very new and wasn't being enforced on Monday.. news article just popped up on my Google news feed Like I said, on Monday, they had guest put all loose articles, phones included, down their shirts and tuck their shirt in. When I was there this weekend they didn't mind if you have phones in line (I had mine out all the time) and they never said anything to me with my phone in my pocket..but I do know I waited in the station on Gemini for close to 5 mins longer than I should have due to the ride opp stopping the train, walking up the lift to confiscate two phones On another coaster, I can't remember which one, they actually told a kid to put his phone in his pocket.. On Steel Vengeance, they told folks to put their phones down their shirts and tuck their shirts in.. this was on Monday. I can't remember seeing that no phone sign then but I wasn't looking Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

I don't know, TTD was down about 75% of the time I was at CP this weekend. Although it was never closed all day, it was down a lot I agree, LR shouldn't be down as much as it has for it's third season and a lot of the blame goes on Dollywood for not being transparent.. but if they are really doing track work, that works not being done on the lift, at least nothing visible is being done. Who knows if they are actually doing track work or not, I'm not even sure where that rumor came from (asside from the post on screamscape). We do know they fixed the pothole once already and it's back. Why is the coaster messing its own track up and I doubt the launch has anything to do with messing up its own track. Land sinks and shifts here, it could be a land issue as well. Even pulling into the stattion a "pot hole" of sorts has popped up and you can see and hear the entire train "jump" at one point like the track isn't even. (Not around the transfer track) Is it support issues? Is it because the track is topper vs ibox? If we keep blaming the launch, what's not to say the train is going to fast for topper and it needs ibox (I don't think it does at all ) but simply replacing the launch with a hill has a good chance of not fixing the issue from as much as we see/know.. especially because the launch is the only part that has actually been confirmed by Pete and others as "working beautifully", on here even. And no I'm not comparing the two. I just posted it had its own downtime and that's from a post the park made. Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

https://www.cedarpoint.com/blog/early-entry-update Steel Vengeance had it's share of downtime early during the season and it has a lift. Doesn't mean it's not a launch issue and I agree that's why everyone always assumes it's the launch. But it could be a number of things. Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using Tapatalk -

I will tell you that CP will stop rides and walk up the lift and get your phone.. I had read about it but did experience it this past weekend.. they stopped Gemini and walked up and got two phones! Exactly.. actually, none one official has said anything and no one unofficial has said anything about the launch. all the rumors mention track work. I'm not sure if the track was damaged in some way, if the coaster is damageing itself somehow, or if they simply are trying to improve ride experience before the fall.. fall and Christmas last year was their busiest season so who knows.. I think doing work in summer though keeps the vacationers away, especially those looking for LR.. September is dead for Dollywood, like parking lot B dead sometimes.. do your enhancements then.
