I want to say I would NEVER post this (even if I heard it from a pretty reliable source) but this source I next to 100% trust. I sincerely hope my source is wrong, but If indeed its true all I'll say is if you like Montezooma's Revenge get a ride in SOON. If anyone else has heard otherwise or if someone else has heard rumblings of this please post.

Any word on how long Colossus backwards will be going till? I ask cause I'm curious if they'll close the ride after, or just put it back to a forward operating coaster. If they close it by the end of May and indeed do the RMC makeover I think it could be done by April-May of 2015 due to not having bad winters out here and they could start construction in May. Also I read somewhere that some higher ups from Six Flags including the park president were seen at Alton Towers looking over the Smiler. I don't know if this is a rumor, but it's around online (if that makes any bit of difference). Does anyone know if this is true, or just a rumor floating around? I'd personally love to see a ride like that or even a Eurofighter in maybe Dejas old spot. Iron Colossus and even a small Euro Fighter would make a GREAT 2015 season.

Adventuredome Discussion Thread
adamd replied to gisco's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Went on today. What a FUN coaster. The drop is easily the best part of the ride and the twists throughout make it a very fun ride. The last inversion is crazy it seems like your hanging upside down forever. Well worth the $10 to ride! Every park that has a boomerang should replace it with a ride like this! Ride is very smooth and there are some serious moments of airtime. Huge winner here! -
This is going back to that Iron Colossus video. I dont know how far fetched this is BUT what if they were to make it all a continuous coaster (like in the video posted) and the first half (up to the second lift hill) was either steel or wood and the second half of the ride was the other? I think that would make for a very unique coaster experience. Maybe they could call it Hybrid Colossus?

I am sorry, but I really don't get the big deal with the new GM deciding to put all family rides in the park in the last almost 10 years and everyone rejoicing about it (heck some people even saying Knotts should continue this and stay with family attractions and not add another thrill ride). I am not saying its a bad thing (or a good thing) I just don't see why everyone thinks its such a positive and here's some reasons why: Was the park REALLY bad prior to all these family additions year after year? Granted it seems they are doing more landscape lately (but that's most of the Cedar Fair Parks lately). Is it proven this is actually a smart business decision (AKA making more money)? I get hes probably getting more families coming, however how many thrill seekers aren't going because the same thrill rides have been there the last 10 years (I get families will typically spend more money than thrill seekers, however thrill seekers visit more often which I'd think would offset the financial difference)? There are 5 family parks within 80 miles of the park (3 of which are within 10 miles) Disneyland, California Adventure, Adventure City, Legoland and Sea World and I think there is no arguing that 2 of them (Disneys) are better family parks no matter how much effort Knott's puts into it, however I get Disney is far more expensive. As I said this isnt for or against them doing it, its just I don't see why the sudden last 10 years everything must be family oriented and no new thrill rides. I think the Boardwalk/Logride and the new Camp Snoopy look great I also want to add, but I don't see how a new coaster could hurt the park either (this isnt Magic Mountain afterall ) Please let me know what you think and if someone actually has financial numbers that shows they are now making more money due to this please say something.

I thought it'd be fun to see what people want to see in their home park and than compare that with the announcements coming out most likely summer of 2014 and see if anyones wish was granted. With that being said state your home park(s) and what you'd like to see there and why. Try to make it a realistic wish. Knotts: I'd love to see a thrill coaster put in. 2015 will be ELEVEN years since a thrill coaster was put in and I appreciate the family direction the park has been going, but eleven years is a very long time without a thrill coaster. I know rumors of a giga are still out there and I'd LOVE to see one and I don't see that being out of the question. If Magic Mountain doesn't go with a euro fighter I could see one at Knotts instead of a giga. Also a good flat in place of Windseeker (if they don't use that room for their new thrill coaster). I'd also be happy with a RMC re-tracking of Ghostrider as the layout is really good, but the ride is VERY rough. Six Flags Magic Mountain: I'd love to see at least one side of Colossus get the Iron Horse treatment with or without an inversion is fine with me, but mainly I'd like a nice and high steep drop and continuous speed. Its not that its a bad ride, but its rather boring and seeing what the guys at RMC can do would make this ride a night and day difference. Where Deja Vu was I think would be a great spot for a euro fighter similar to Dare Devil Dive. Its not a crazy thrill ride and is good for kids wanting to brave to the next level in coasters. I'd also like to see a flat ride put in maybe like a Giant Frisbee as the park doesn't have a lot of flats.

I haven't been on YOLOcoaster yet, but I sure hope the shin pads are comfy or its going to be painful for me. At 6'2 I loved Outlaw Run, but the damn shin pad bar sure took away from the experience and it would rate higher in my book had they found a way to add more padding or perhaps shape it better. Bruised shins are not good and make the rest of the day difficult. I am 6'2 225LBS and Full Throttles restraints are VERY comfortable. The shin guards don't bother me at all on it. The padding is very thick. You should be fine.

I thought that too, but 3 ops saying it's a CA law and knowing how reliable ride ops are I asked a different ride sup if it was a new Six Flags policy and she said unfortunately it's a CA policy so I would expect them on Disney rides as well as Manta at Sea World, the rides at Discovery Kingdom and the small parks. Well see though but it wouldnt surprise me considering how crazy CA is. It's not California law. The end. Please do some research on California Assembly Bill 850. That's the ONLY law that governs amusement rides in California. I hope your right, but being told the same thing by 3 different ops and a supervisor (all from different rides mind you) makes it somewhat convincing. I tried finding it online and I too couldn't find anything. Only other thing I could think is maybe the employees were told not to say it's a six flags policy and to say it's a CA policy? Well find out soon enough and see if CA parks add them or if different Six Flags parks out of CA add them that way we know for sure what is true.

I fully disagree with the second half. Goliath was the same and I agree the ride (or any ride) isn't affected at all by them, BUT dispatch times are night and day with and without them. It is amazing how many people didn't put the seat belts on (not just this ride but any ride in general). What they do they walk the whole train to make sure people put them on (also remember any empty seat the ride op has to fasten it which takes about 5 seconds per) and once they clear that than they pull down the lap bar down for you and re walk . This easily adds at least a minute to the dispatch time and that's being generous. A minute doesn't sound like a lot but multiply that by how many dispatches they do a day. Have you ever been on a Deja Vu with their lovely 5 minute dispatches which was primarily due to their seat belts and people not putting them on first.

Was at the park today and see someone beat me to post about the seat belts on goliath. Even worse news it seems it is a California law come 2014 as 3 different ops & a ride supervisor all said that and next week they said to expect them on colossus and full throttle. So any non cedar fair park in ca (as they already have them) with just a lap bar expect to see seat belts

Another thing they could do is put a new coaster in the 3 hour parking spot. I know they need some of the space for actual due to the shops but they don't need even half the space for that. If they went with a big coaster have the station maybe by Ghostriders station and have a majority of the ride in the 3 hr parking site, or they could build a parking garage with the amount of 3 hour spaces and use the rest of the room for the coaster.

Does anyone know what Cedar Fairs 2014 budget is? If I were to guess I'd think $60 million (both for CP and Six Flags). If it is I got to think Knotts may be getting something decent for 2014. They announced Silver Bullet in Dec of 03, so their 2014 attraction could open at the end of next year (with the announcement this December). The only coaster for a CF park so far is Banshee at KI and all the parks have announced their 2014 plans (except Knotts). We know KI project is $24 million, I'd guess CP/Valley fairs kid project is maybe 8 million combined, Dorney Parks new water slide maybe $1 million, moving Windseeker to WOF maybe $3 million (who knows maybe CF made Mondial pay for it), Canadas Wonderlands 4D attraction maybe $10 million, and they probably have $2-$3 million set aside for tidying up their parks. With all that added up that still leaves Knotts with $12 million (given CF has $60 million for the year) or $15 million if Mondial pays for the mover of Windseeker. Granted $15 million won't get them a world class coaster, that would still be enough for both the revamp of Calico Mine Ride (if they do that) and a decent size coaster like a Eurofighter or maybe a RMC conversion on Ghostrider. I think we may see a decent coaster for 2014 for several reasons: there may be enough money set for it, and if so CF only has one coaster for the 2014 season and Knotts is do for one.

Those Dyson dryers are disgusting (not just the ones at Knotts). They have the claim as being the most sanitary blow dryers which I don't buy at all. I have seen them in worse condition than the one above (sadly) elsewhere. I have a hard time putting my hands inside something where hundreds of other people put their hands and it collects water at the bottom. The one thing I'll give them is they do dry your hands VERY fast compared to the regular hand dryers. I also have a hard time believing waterless urinals are sanitary. We have them at work and they seem to always overflow, and even when they don't it smells SO bad around them.

I agree, but remember the last ride there was called "Windseeker", so it seems like they don't care about the names in the area, but I will say they did a great job with the color scheme matching the Fiesta Village area. Even though it'll probably be a quality flat ride I am still hoping for a decent Euro Fighter. They already have Silver Bullet and Jaguar over the water and there seems to be enough room for another coaster to go over the water as well (along with Windseekers old spot/queue). I'd say knock over the Taqueria that is there as well to give it even more room.
-
^^In theory that makes sense but the slowest times to go to Knott's throughout the whole year are during the days that Haunt is on. Even on a Saturday the park is absolutely dead. Granted more families go on Saturday during Haunt compared to Thurs, Fri and Sun (other days Knotts has Haunt) BUT remember the following Sunday there is NO Haunt so families are going to wait and go that day as they'll get 2 extra hours at the park.

Looking at that ariel picture I cant help but think if they got rid of that Taqueria (next to the merry go round) and of course with the removal of Windseeker they would have enough room for a mid size coaster like a small Euro fighter (using some of the water too). There really is no need for that Taqueria as they have TWO other Mexican restaurants (one attached to the giftshop/arcade and one next to the Hat Dance). Obviously another flat going over Windseekers spot is probably a more "guaranteed" idea, but I don't think its far fetched to get rid of one of their three Mexican restaurants (all within a 1 minute walk of each other) and use that for a new decent coaster. Another thing they could add an El Loco probably just using Windseekers old spot without having to remove anything. I know there was discussion on these boards a while back of even removing the arcade/store, moving the Swing Ride, Hat Dance and Revolution and using all that for their big coaster which is still an idea even though I think the above it a lot more likely. Hopefully Knotts makes their 2014 announcement(s) soon.
-
Wes I totally agree BUT I'd like for them to keep the Hat Dance or at least move it and I think moving the marry go round would be a good decision too. If they got rid of Fiesta Village and kept just Monte (probably Jaguar too even though I think they should get rid of it) that would open up a LOT of room for a good size coaster (It's been 10 years they NEED a good coaster now. I'm not saying a giga but they need a good coaster) and I think they would benefit from that a lot more than what's there right now. In fact they could probably re-locate The Hat Dance, El Revolution, Wave Swinger and even the merry go round throughout the park if they really wanted to. Other than those rides all that's there is the arcade/gift shop and the 3 mexican walk up food places (one next to Hat Dance, one next to Windseeker and the one attached to the gift shop/arcade). They also have the dancing square but they could move that to another area of the park.
-
Any idea on whats going in Windseekers place? Thats a pretty decent amount of land especially if they use the water around it. I could see a euro fighter going there (using where Windseeker sat, the queue area, some of the water and some of the Fiesta Village walkway) and I think that would be a perfect addition for Knotts.

I want to say first I think the Calico Mine Ride is AWESOME, but I got to ask. I would think that the maintenance on the ride has got to be pretty expensive. The second thing whenever I'm at the park there is almost no wait for the ride. Granted their cars can fit a lot of people, BUT they usually only use 2-3 carts at most, it takes a while to load/unload and the rides over 7 mins long (with load and unload prob over 11 mins). I'd like to see their queue counter as I'd almost be willing to bet its toward the bottom as far as ridership per day. With that being said and if it is indeed heavy on maintenance cost and has low ridership do you think they would remove that along with their Screaming Swing and maybe even their gift shop next to Screamin Swing and use that space for something else (coaster, new dark ride, multiple rides)? As I said I LOVE the ride, BUT I'm looking at it with a business sense as well if the two points are indeed true. I'll also add I know some will say but its a classic they wont. They removed The haunted Shack which I think was one of their most popular rides and replaced it with Vertigo/Screamin Swing. Haunted Shack had to be redone (maintenance issue) but they decided not to and that was a classic/popular attraction and I'd say more popular than Calico Mine Ride.
