  1. I'm not sure how long you've been following this page, or if you know the story - but basically Lake Monster was the name of the conceptual idea that Herschend sent out to season pass holders about a potential revamp via RMC Topper Track to the Predator. The name meant nothing as it was merely theoretical but it made it easier for people to reference said idea with the theoretical name than have to say "that herschend idea from years ago where they thought it would be cool to revamp the predator", see what I mean? There are no trademarks for this name under Darien Lake because even if the plan went through that likely would not have been the name they chose for the new attraction. I hope that clears that up. RMC has actually done track work on the predator recently - though it was just typical wooden coaster maintenance - they still have made some improvements to the ride itself. If they were to ever end up redoing the ride they could easily work around that path issue by utilizing their slightly longer off season (October 2nd 2017 to probably May 5th 2018) to do all the construction that wasn't feesable or safe with pedestrian traffic while the park was still open. They could also reroute the path to get to RoS or just close the ride all together but since this is just a pipe dream I wouldn't think too far into it. Of course if it ever does come to pass, the park will know what to do much more than an enthusiast like me does and they'll have it all set for whenever the new attraction would theoretically open.
  2. I'm totally going to be that guy and squash that rumor before it even has a slight chance of taking off. I was at the Administration Building yesterday to process my season pass and I saw predator sitting still with no signs of nothing. It shall be predator again in 2017 and likely for every year following until it gets taken down. I'd love for the Lake Monster idea to become a reality but sadly at least for the foreseeable future, I don't see it happening. However at another theme park 4.5hours or so away, "they're coming", so that's something to be excited about right?
  3. I have about 4 of them for when I'd go with a group of people. They loved how the color Wands would sync with the show! It was kind of funny actually, each time I took someone to see the show with the wands for the first time, they wouldn't believe me when I said what they did. Darien Lake really did stumble upon something great because everyone I introduced the light wands to absolutely loved them! Myself included Anyone who thinks I'm not a nerd, is wrong. And this proves it
  4. I feel like there'd be some way for the park to get this Twitter handle taken down permanently if they really wanted to. It has to be breaking a number of Twitter community rules - one would imagine. Which makes me think all the more that this is being done by a park official as a form of free publicity as well as just to mess with people, and get everyone excited. It's awesome, and a pretty great social media stunt if it does turn out to be Tony or someone else from the Point!
  5. Is there a chance that it could also be for the park itself? Since if I remember correctly the campground takes up the majority of the developed land that's owned by Darien as is. I think in park wifi would be great! Even if it's just in campground. Infrastructure updates at a park like this are ALWAYS a good thing!
  6. Looks like SFNE's mind eraser got new trains this season! Here's to hoping eventually DL will follow suit.
  7. In the spirit of all these fun Magnum stories I'll add my own! Magnum XL-200 was actually the very first coaster I have ever ridden at Cedar Point. When I visited the park for my first time a mere 6 years ago, we parked out by Gemini and walked in through the Soak City entrance, which required walking under Magnum itself. I remember being flabbergasted because up until that moment I had never seen a roller coaster in person that was over 200' or so, and suddenly I was walking under one to get into the roller coaster mecca that is Cedar Point! the park had just opened and I wanted to ride something that I would be a little more comfortable with - and being that my "favorite" coaster at the time was Ride of Steel at Darien Lake, which is only a few feet taller than Magnum, I felt it was the perfect place to start! Our motto that day was "Backseat is best!" for all coasters where we were given a choice to pick our seats, and Magnum was no exception! Now prior to contrary belief this is where I feel my story differs from a lot of other people on this thread; being in the last row of the last car for my first ride on Magnum was one of my all time favorite roller coaster experiences ever. I was used to the hyper-coaster back home that was computer designed and manufactured with 100% precision, where there was a gradual speed increase when you crested the hill and you were eased into the 70MPH drop, on Magnum, everything was different. I still remember like it was yesterday how we whipped over the crest of the hill. We went from the speed of the lift to Magnum's top speed in what felt like no time at all! It was fantastic! Each hill was bumpy, each turn was jerky, the pretzel turnaround was awkward, and the hills were dark and muggy inside, but regardless from start to stop, I loved that ride. To this day I am still proud to say that Magnum is one of my all time favorite roller coasters. I love the bumps and shakes and jerks, but little did I know that when the coaster was ridden a little more defensively, the ride got so much better! I hope they keep Magnum the way it is for as long as they possibly can because sometimes you just cant beat the classics, and I firmly believe Magnum XL-200 proves that better than anything.
  8. Though I am a huge T-Shirt guy (I own almost 300 as of last week ) You can't go wrong with a couple keychains! I like the new ones the park had this year where each coaster had a keychain! I only got the two I felt were most important for 2016:
  9. There is always 1 guest viewing. I don't know why I find this funny. Just imagining some full time employee of the park sitting at a computer staring at this thread as if what we say here really matters to them I'm not denying the fact that they do pay attention to threads like this one, but to be on the lookout 24/7 just seems ridiculous
  10. They do have a freestyle similar machine, its just not as mainstream yet. It's called the Spire. Regardless, DL didn't have any freestyles that I was aware of. You're totally right, they don't. But seeing how popular they were getting I was hoping in the next season or two they'd pop up at Darien Lake. Maybe the Spire will pop up and some version of a Pepsi refill station will come into play, but we'll just have to wait and see
  11. I'm sorry. Is this legit? Every other time someone with 5 or so posts makes a claim on here people claim it's just a troll. I'm not meaning to assume anything but if this is all legitimate why haven't there been any actual announcements from the park itself? Strike-U-Up attractions are relatively new and very unique. I'd hope they'd make some sort of stink out of it you know? If this is the case then I'm glad they're adding things to the park that will enhance the experience on the dry side. I'm not sure how well he Pepsi thing is going to be since they don't really have any way to combat coke freestyle that I'm aware of, and I'm a big fan of coke freestyles! And I'm always a nerd for anniversary merch, so if we can somehow expand the anniversary products to be more than just souvenir cups I will be a VERY happy camper this season
  12. ^ Why on earth would you get rid of a perfectly good log ride?! It's one of those things most major theme parks these days are missing! MFI removed theirs and there was nothing but negative reactions to it. The only other log flume in the area is at Seabreeze. And though it's a hoot, it's not the same at TR. sure there may be a lot of ops on it but why not just close the ride before the weekend only operations begin instead of ripping it out? I feel that's a safer bet than anything. And if I remember correctly they already do that! I'd rather they get rid of Shipwreck Falls first. I love the ride but it barely ever has a line. Even on busy days you don't wait for more than 3 boats before you're on. TR almost always has a line and to me that's a good sign! Also I'm not sure what you mean by showing it's age. It seems just fine to me.
  13. Parks don't usually announce when they are getting nothing.
  14. ^ hoot-n-holler I suppose, but Motocoaster was also the original. It was a prototype
  15. 5th clone? 1- Mind Eraser 2 - Boomerang All the others are originals. (Ride of Steel has a clone that exists somewhere else. Yes. But so does Raptor at Cedar Point, and as far as I know no one calls Raptor a clone). Sorry to be so nit picky but clone/original coasters to me are a big deal. (Does that proove how big of a loser I am?)
  16. ^ when done right, logos on pavement look awesome. Take UB's Alumni Arena for example. They have a nice big "UB" right in the entry plaza welcoming spectators to all sorts of events. My issue is the more complex the logo is, the more expensive the pavement would become - and it only takes one crack to cost the park a fortune to repair it. I would imagine Alumni Arena the day after its new "BUFFALO" facade was installed But, the flag idea could be very cool. I always liked how at CP they have banners near some of their more popular attractions (Millennium and Dragster) as well as the flags by Wicked Twister and Valravn. To see some of that flare at DL - whether it be in the entry plaza, near the attractions or both, I would have to agree with you that would look very nice! As for the galaxy Theatre, I believe it needs to either be rehabbed and used, or torn down, or converted into a mechanic shop for the rides? When I say rehab, I'm referencing the seating. I've never been a fan of the aluminum benches in theatres at amusement parks. As for shows, I was always a fan of sea lion splash. It was great to see those guys at the state fair in 2015, the cirque show from 9 years ago was cool, and even the Nik Wallenda show was really great (which I didn't expect it to be, so I was pleasantly surprised). As for indoor concerts, something tells me that venue is too small. Especially with the PAC practically right there, and the fact that they've used the laser lawn for the in park concert series and that has seemed to go rather well, so why fix what's not broken? Lastly. As for it becoming a resteraunt. I feel like that would be a headache to redo the entire building to do that, and to me it would seem like a waste of space. But that's just my opinion. Lastly, with The Bear Valley Bumper Buggies a very short walk from the pirate, having bumper cars in that old queueing area seems to be a bit redundant, not to mention, that space is probably a lot smaller than you think it may be. I can agree that something should be done since the building really doesn't have a purpose anymore but I don't think a 3rd set of bumper cars is the answer
  17. The only issue I see with this is that I don't think Darien Lake has ever been super efficient with updating their website. If I remember correctly they had a "New for 2013" tab for a couple years showcasing Blast Off and Ignite the Night. Something tells me we need to wait for the 2017 park map to really confirm anything like that. (Or if the park would announce it through social media or via a press release. That would also work. Right?). Though I did have hopes that the park would have something new for 2017, I'd be totally fine with some rehab to the infrastructure, it would be great if it was Hershend-esque (I believe they redid the main entrance, emporium and several buildings throughout the property) I'd really love it! Also, though it may be a pipe dream, the less black top the better!
  18. So to get back to Darien Lake discussion, I was looking on the website earlier this afternoon and I realized that this year the park is scheduled to be open every weekend of September with its last day scheduled to be October 1st. I feel like the park hasnt been scheduled to be open in october for years! Sure its only one day, but still. In case anyone is curious heres the schedule:
  19. ^ couple things. I know I'm not a moderator but for the sake of your fellow forum members could you maybe try to be a little more grammatically correct? I love run-on sentences as much as the next guy but the way yours have meshed together on this specific page alone makes the things you say confusing and hard to follow. I believe it's in the rules and regulations somewhere on the thread... (I'd link to it but I don't feel like it) Second. Darien Lake is not just some sloppy croweded park that's an overall eyesore as you're making it seem. Yes, Ride of Steel and Mind Eraser have faded paint jobs. But they're still very aesthetically pleasing Engineering masterpieces. I'll take Darien Lake's Mind Eraser over the water as it is, over Canada's Wonderland's Flight Deck any day. So what if Flight Deck is themed and the paint is fairly decent? And to say Ride of Steel is boring, though totally an opinion, seems off to me. That thing is an airtime machine! Especially those last few camelbacks. Holy Moly! Blast off not having a "topper" seems like a really minimal thing to be concerned about when you consider the massive facelift that Boardwalk area received that same year, don't you think? Sure it's not as "pretty" as one of the Hershey's Triple Towers but so what? It's a fun ride, and if I remember correctly it's the only large scale drop tower near western New York (I'm not counting sky screamer in Canada because not everyone has he luxury of crossing the border). Third. The waterpark can indeed be crowded. But I wouldn't say that's due to throwing attractions wherever they'll fit. It's because a hot summer day in Buffalo can be brutal and anyone who has a season pass or some spare cash and an open day will want to be in that waterpark. If anything more attractions would help! More things for people to do in theory means less people getting caught in bottleneck situations, right? And to say that the waterpark isn't very family friendly I also believe isn't fair, because if you look at the larger attractions you do see families in line for just about all of them. I believe ripcurl racer is very family friendly because it allows 6 riders at a time to race down! Those little kids are a lot braver than most think they would be, and they always seem to love those slides! Finally, Darien Lake is not by any means the best park on the planet. That's very obvious. But it's not the worst either, not by a long shot. Two coasters have faded paint, and there are little things that the park could do aesthetically to present itself a little better but for the most part the place looks nice. Vipers newly painted entrance sign, the emporium's facelift a few years back, rowdys ridge, boardwalk, even the repainted Boomerang in 2010(?) is really nice to look at! So, though your opinions are totally fine, and respected, don't present them as fact please. Yes, Boomerang and Mind Eraser are clones, but Ride of Steel is an original (the "clone" is at a six flags park), Viper is custom, and Motocoaster is a prototype, meaning it is also the original. Considering the attractions we have around here, I'd say Darien Lake is pretty well rounded, and I'd hope that some people agree. With that being said, I hope you do enjoy getting situated here on TPR, and that you don't take any of this as a personal attack. I look forward to future conversations but please throw in a comma or period here and there if you could.
  20. On this day last year, Darien Lake announced Ripcurl Racer!
  21. ^ just out of curiosity. Where's the proof that Darien Lake owns the copyright for Lake Monster? I checked online and it looks like that belongs to a brewery. For the record - I don't believe the rumor at all, I'm just saying the TM doesn't seem to exist for this park
  22. In other news, it looks like the PAC is turning 25 this year! I like how it's acknowledged in the logo unlike when Darien Lake turned 50 in 2014 and they didn't do anything about it. (Not that I would have thought they'd get some big attraction or something but I would've loved some merch ala KD40 or something )
  23. ^ it did have two, but due to years of neglect the trains both ended up needing extensive work to even be "up to snuff" so Darien decided to try and send them through rehab one train at a time (if I remember correctly) and when that didn't work out, they decided to retire the two old trains (which I believe were the originals) and buy a brand new one for the 2016 season and tentatively they were going to buy a second one for this season, but nothing has been confirmed (at least to my knowledge) and after the whole Second train on Viper thing this year, I'm not expecting them to actually get a second train at all, and honestly won't believe it's a possibility until I see the train on sight. But who knows? Maybe Darien Lake will surprise us this year. One can dream, right? EDIT: the person above totally beat me to it, and without a doubt blew my response out of the water. Great info though, I did enjoy reading it all!
  24. I've done some sleuthing and from the several websites I have come across in relation to the Genesee County Planning Board I have found nothing on the meeting that was held today. I did find last years proposal for the Ripcurl Racer - which was a fun read, but I saw nothing on the meeting that occurred this evening(?). Anyone know where that information could be found? It seems weird to me that nothing Darien Lake wise was leaked from this meeting, especially considering they have typically been announcing in January - at least that's been the case for the past couple of years... so unless they did have a proposal and it simply hasn't been uploaded yet (or I couldn't find them because I have no idea what I'm looking for), it seems like Darien will be remaining silent on their 2017 additions (if there even are any) for at least another month.
  25. ... So an actual CP question. Does anyone know about when tickets go on sale for chill out? I don't really remember when it went on sale last year, but I swore it was around this time if not sooner. Thanks!
