  1. If you look at how the coaster was installed, it looks to be incredibly temporary. It’s installed on top of wooden slabs. Maybe a relocation of the coaster to where the go-karts are? Who knows at this point.
  2. ^ mentioned previously the park’s announcement is going to be a ride. If they add Holiday in the Park as well that would be a “bonus” but it would not be the only addition
  3. Stopping by the park yesterday I was surprised to see that the old Galaxy Theatre still has all of the riser seating seemingly left untouched and in working order (the lights within the stairs were on and operational). It looks like they’re clearing out the space - I’d assume it’s for fright fest. What surprised me was how clean it looked in there. Good on Darien Lake for keeping that building’s interior well kept for the past few years!
  4. ^ though of course I am an advocate for two train operations, I don’t think I’d say that Viper is desperate by any means. Most times, Viper has less than one train wait at any given time. Sure concerts and busy (by DL standards) weekends may change that but for the majority of the season the ride is walk on all the time. I think so far this season the longest I’ve waited was maybe 3 trains for the front row (I’m a sucker for all that leg room). Sure there’s times where a second train would be nice - but I don’t think it’s do-or-die for that coaster in particular. Ride of steel certainly does need a second train as it is the star attraction for the park, and it’s wait time is comparitavely lengthy compared to other rides there, and I think I’d also say MotoCoaster could use its second train because that line is always at least down the ramp. I do think it’s helpful and more efficient that they only allow one train worth of people in at a time (I really would love to see that for the other rides in the park too. It’s much less congested and easier to pair up with groups of people) All in all if they had to prioritize I’d think the order from most to least needed would be: 1. Ride of Steel 2. MotoCoaster 3. Viper 4. Predator 5. Mind Eraser 6. Tantrum (N/A) 7. Boomerang (N/A) 8. Hoot-N-Holler (N/A) Totally just my opinion
  5. I’m just trying to find out how UNBELIEVABLE the return of “Superman: Ride of Steel” is gonna be. That’s all I can think of with how they word it. Refreshed RoS - counting as a new thing - call it a day. Probably (hopefully) not the new thing but still
  6. There was a hyperlink in the email that took you to a page within the Six Flags Darien Lake website (possibly a test of the new site?)
  7. Though - again - probably similar to other Six Flags parks - it’s worth noting that they do explicitly say that the new attraction will be a Ride. So there isn’t going to be some parade or restaurant added solely so that Six Flags can continue to say “something new for every park” and not specify “not all new things are rides” - which is very clever I do have to admit. Anyway, still going to be interesting to see what they announce in the next couple weeks!
  8. ^ it’s also the thing I happened to share a photo of in my post
  9. ^ I figured as much - doesn’t surprise me at all. That’s why I said we’ll have to see how unbelievable it actually is - should be interesting
  10. Indeed, the magic gate was a wonderful bonus to being at the park today. We got a BUNCH of rides in on Millennium today as well as 2 rides on SV in the morning during early entry (sort of - since it was down until probably 9:45 or so) within 20 minutes - no fast lane required. As well as nearly walk ons for everything else! We were outta there by 5:30pm (mainly to help allow us to get back home at a reasonable hour). Rainy school days are certainly some of the best for crowd levels at the park!
  11. Just figured it could be worth mentioning - the Valravn crew is already having fun with this new coaster announcement. Waiting in line for the mere 15 minutes it took to get on today (than you rain showers and schools back in session!) they referenced Yukon Striker at least every other train. If anything they’re treating it as a wonderful addition to the family instead of a cheap gimmick to steal the records from the flagship park. It was well appreciated and hey, what’s a little free advertising for the new tallest fastest longest dive coaster within the same chain? “You are about to ride the tallest, fastest, longest, craziest dive coaster on the planet - well. At least it will be until next year” “Welcome aboard the big brother to the Yukon Striker” “The original Cedar Fair Dive Machine” The list can go in and on. Very well done and much appreciated from this coaster fan!
  12. Darien Lake sent out a nice email update today that mentions “the biggest announcement and biggest sale of the year” set for August 30th, 2018. They state this is when “Darien Lake is going to announce an incredible, UNBELIEVABLE new attraction for the 2019 season” I suppose we will have to wait and see how unbelievable it really is - but it is nice to know that at least something is happening - and we know of the announcement date a little farther in advance than usual!
  13. With our neighbors up north officially announcing their record breaking dive coaster this morning, I wonder what crowds at our park will be like next year - mainly from the Canadian demographic. It would be fun to see Six Flags eventually try to use Darien to compete with Wonderland but I’m not gonna get my hopes up
  14. Don’t read too far into it. That’s just the generic fright fest graphic six flags uses
  15. ^ there’s nothing wrong with someone pointing something out that hasn’t been mentioned on here in a while. It’s nice to see someone trying to start a conversation in reference to something fairly unique to Darien Lake compared to nearby parks. They have a TON of space. Thank you for updating the image to make it a little easier to see! If I remember correctly the park takes up about 90 acres total out of their insane plot of land
  16. That’s insane. At the beginning of the season, parking was $8. Then, it went up to $15 once Six Flags took over. Now it’s $20. The parking price increased by $7 in only a few months. Total ripoff. Not that it makes a huge difference but I believe Parking was $10 before it was $15. I know it was $8 last year, but something tells me it wasn’t $8 this year - still an almost double cost increase is crazy. Thank goodness for a season pass with parking benefits! (Here’s to hoping that’s still a thing next year??)
  17. ^ totally kill two birds with one stone there. New name, new paint and a surprise third bird with new trains. I feel like that would be the best option for that ride with what people have been asking of it for the past at least 5 years
  18. ^ I sense a red herring. It’s the only height they mention, of course they want you to think it’s the actual ride height. They also mention 23 Million riders on the old standup coaster. I’m sure people can argue that’s the cost of building this thing. It’s all there to throw us off. I’m willing to bet it will at least be taller than Valravn. Maybe not by much, but enough that it brings a new record to Canada!
  19. If you’re referring to the backdrop on the front of the building, that was removed several years ago when they repainted the front of the building for the Nik Wallenda show. Now it sits all black, with zero theming and probably zero intention for future year round use
  20. Anyone notice Aaron Radatz calling the park “Six Flags Darien Lake”? I had a screenshot to share but it looks like iPhone’s new file system and this forum still disagree every now and again. Darien Lake retweeted it if any one wants to see it
  21. New this year for Ignite the Night was the strobe light upstage center that they used during the Thunder sequence. Otherwise everything is the same from last year. They do update the lasers once every couple years - I know the multi-colored laser they had last year was being very fitty, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that one was replaced this year. (If anyone cares, last year they added 6 new LED fixtures that they use during the preshow and now during the show since they are on moving heads and can rotate unlike the older Parcans they used to use) Thanks Steve. I knew it looked better than the 2016 show. I’m always happy to discuss the laser show at the park, it is one of my favorite night time shows! If the last time you saw the show was in 2016, That’s when they made the most notable enhancements since 2013 when Ignite The Night debuted its new #Colorblast title paying homage to Laserblast and of course adding the new full-spectrum solid state laser. Before this, the show only had 3 green lasers (one on either side of the stage, and one slightly more powerful one in the dead center). It is interesting to see how much things change with the show from year to year - especially the small things. As I mentioned last time with those LED preshow lights. Next to no one usually notices something like that changing but it’s nice that they continually improve on the shows infrastructure! (Being a Theatre Design and Technology Major, naturally I notice and geek out over most any theatrical elements of the show that change, even if it’s something small and unnoticeable to the general public)

  23. That’s been in the show since May. It’s part of their formula to always include a children’s show theme song of sorts - and with LEGO Batman doing well, it was a perfect fit for the show. And admittedly one of the high points of this year’s performance
  24. Went to the park today (at this point it’s yesterday but that’s not all too important) and I caught on the souvenir cups a saying that I was pleasantly surprised to see, and I think you guys may agree, or not - I don’t judge “Dive Into Summer” - seems pretty interesting, eh? Nothing major, just a fun little thing I noticed! Now plastered all along the wall! Photoss don’t do it justice at all. Leviathan’s colors really POP with a stormy background! I could get used to this view. Lovely lovely park skyline and entrance The rain came, kicked the behind of about 40% of the guests, and left a bunch of puddles for artsy fartsy shots Seriously awesome looking. I know it’s no Cinderella Casle but it’s awesome in its own way
