Thank you for the tips, i'll keep those things in mind. Do any other of the coaster have large lines or are many things walk ons? The vibe i get from cedar point is that their newer record smashing coasters suck all the lines away from coasters like the Iron Dragon, Corkscrew, Wildcat. Is that pretty much true? -

I'm sorry to break the flow but i'm traveling to cedar point this friday. This would be my first trip to CP and i want to get on all of the coasters, and especially the standouts like maverick, millenium, dragster, raptor, magnum, gemeni, wicked twister. I was wondering if someone who is frequent at the park could give me some advice on the ride lines, when particular attractions get the most traffic, etc. I plan to spend the entire day there want to get on a few other flats as well, especially their newest one. I'm planning my day and since i havent been before i thought some advice on someone who was more farmiliar with the park layout would be more helpful then just winging it. Also, where are the best places to eat in the park? Any other tips would be well appreciated. -

That's what's missing from B&M's newer rides these days as the pre-drop especially on their inverts is what IMO makes them stand uot from many other coaster design firms. It has become their signature but there really is no point for it anymore. The pre-drop was originally so the chain dog could disengage from the chain, but they have since re=designed their chain dogs so it is no longer necessary -

Yeah these B&M inverts always seem to be great additions to any park they are in. It looks totally different from Montu and i really like that B&M isn't being repetitive but that's probobaly because of Parc Asterix, not B&M. Usually customers want same old same old from Walter and Claude. Nobody wants to spend the money to be unique as of late. But with places like Parc Asterix and World Joyland telling B&M to make something unique, it reassures me that they still have their touch. Now what would really make me happy is if parks started adding more of the Sit Down coasters So good, yet so few of them -

^ totally agree. Also, people have to remember that waterparks are kind of Holiday World's thing along with woodies. When have they added a steel coaster in the past? oh yeah, 1999, and it was a kiddie coaster. I don't think they'll be adding one anytime soon And would they even have the money too? they must spend $100,000,000,000,000 a year retracking voyage. just sayin... Why the hell would people even want them too, i bet it would just ruin the place. They're a great park with great waterslides and great woodies. Could you ask for any more? -

Look great! i knew it was gonna be an Intamin! -
I actually thought the same thing. before they announced they were removing skull mountain, for fun, i designed a coaster in no limits for the park and that is the sight i chose for the ride! i don't know why they didn't use that, doesn't make much sense i mean they have plenty of space in that huge fields on both sides of the partway and could easily put a new ride, uggg, well i don't make those choices so whatever.
-
No as A: that ride is no longer in repairable condition & B:SFI no longer has ownership of it. They could always be getting a new compact standup design from B&M,after all didn't someone report seeing B&M reps in the park a while back? & just because B&M havn't been building new standups lately doesn't mean they havn't gotten orders from parks for one. I couldn't agree more, why would six flags move a 21 year old coaster that's pretty famous for being the first B&M. It's been a GAm staple an it's not like the ride rotation program is still around. I obviously don't know intimate knowledge and wouldn't put it past them, but a new design is fairly likely also. It also would be more marketable i imagine And who says it has to be compact, they still have all that land back by superman and it's not like there's a ride in the way anymore this is really exiting, i can't wait to see how it turns out

Oopps, those last 6 picture are out of order and they are not showing up in the editor. The 3 of cyclone go with the cyclone pictures, The one of bizarro goes after the no train shot of the overbank, and the two of tomahawk go before the last two picture. Sorry for the error. -

Alright time for part 2! The Cyclone was running very well when i was there, it seemed the trims were barely on and almost half of the coaster has been replaced with topper track. The ride was very smooth for a wooden coaster the end of the curve after the first drop was the only sorta rough spot but it wasn't painfully rough. It was a little wierd only half of it was done, i wonder if therest will be done over this off-season. I didn't ride in just any seat as well, i rode over the rear axle in the backseat and it was an AWESOME ride. especially the first drop. mmmm, yummy ejector air. Anyways onto some photos, i hope you enjoy part 2 and don't forget to post your comments! There's a few more shots of GCG It's very re-assuring they don't know how fast or which way it goes Bad but interesting picture It's actually a false rumor that this is themed to batman. The theme really is that you are driving in your car and you have to take a detour This would be a station. it's the closest thing those coaster cars have to a home, so respect it! I love thunderbolt's sign. It much better the the kennywood's IMO I don't understand the single rider line for this. Instead of putting you on empty seats on the ride, it brings you to another tower and you don't have to wait in line. Even though they say you can't choose your seats, they let you anyways? im still confused but w/e My favorite first drop on any wooden coaster. The ejector air was awesome in the back! Great negative g's! You can see Thunderbolt's ongoing track work pretty well as you are walking over toward cyclone. Rough (ruhf) Adj - 1.having a coarse or uneven surface, as from projections, irregularities, or breaks; not smooth 2. Characterized by unecessary violence.... I love how the ride just ominously looms over everything around it. The spinner. looked fun, but the line was wayy to long. i'll ride it another day. The Good, The Bad, And The Tasty! The spinner spinning and doing it's spinny thing This half of the ride was what got the new track so far. From the camelback hill, around the top, and down the big drop was new track as well as the helix finale. You can see alot of it in this picture Catapult. This ride is INSANE! But it's loads of fun. This definetly is the most messed up, wtf?!, awesome ride in the park! Cyclone. Now equiped with awesome! This badass thing is in the middle of the turns. Texas Cyclone had one just like it. yeah The helix was my favorite part. The laterals and speed were awesome! Here you can see the new wood. Signature Shot! Artsy shot of the old timbers. The underside of the new track. It was very smooth! The other side still needs it though... Nerd shot this side is still all old track, but the lower part in this picture is the only rough. to be honest, i didn't really notice it. Can someone explain to me why people think the ride's not wild anymore. The trains SOARED through the track here. It was even sort of intimidating, and the ride is still very wild and crazy I noticed some left over wood from the track work. Sexy. Sexy in a vintage kind of way Foghorn was just chillin' up there Orgiastic scream in the second row! Another pretty coaster picture. i would have waited for a train, but the operations sucked so much it literally wasn't worth it. Once you were done with the ride you sat on the brakes for close to 5 minutes. They didn't even let people in the station and start the loading process until the other train was finished and sitting on the brakes. Terrible. but at least the ride is full of awesome. This hill was a nasty surprise in the back seat! > Ultra close up on the new rails. Here you can see where the old track ends for now. Cyclone rockin' the new track Alot of the railings and catwalks were replaced as well and had yet to be painted Cyclone being the sexy beast it is Hello back seat, you're awesome Great ending, sucky brakes Am i in the twilight zone, or did the gates use to be on the other side!? This station was really cramped. It almost doesn't work. God help us. Why did the skid have to go?! guess six flags operators aren't smart enough to use them So the mind eraser got painted over the off-season. But i wasn't in the mood to get my head bashed with baseball bats today. But it did look nice. But i saw the bat signal and ran to this. This ride was kicking some serious ass today as well! They even added a tunnel thoguh a show building! Well, not really. But it was still running awesome today! I didn't like it as much as Kraken, but i did like it better than Dominator and Hydra. Hi, i used to be at atsroworld, wanna ride? Hell f***ing no! it's like 50 degrees out! They all look so innocent and pretty. Some say they are rougher than a night with a 480 lb hooker. :3 Wow, what a nice picture. could use a train. BUT WAIT! So i was just thinking of riding the SLC and torturing myself for the credit, but i thought i would take a few more pictures. But then.... IT BROKE. the train was just sitting there on the brakes. Bizarro. It's a great ride. It was no ruined in any way by the new restraints. For comparison, they look very similar to the ones on El Toro. Delicious airtime. Layers. Like a cake. Or onions OMFG! The girl the the left of mr. six! Lol! Went over to check out Thunderbolt. LOL! Gettin' artsy with it Love the old signage. I'm happy to see the skids are still on this one. Shame about the airgates and buzzbars though. As you can see, it really needs the trackwork! This ride was pretty dam good too. Yup. Tomahawk Of course i had to get my picture with the furries. This one came out blurry That's more like it! Well that was my day at SFNE! i hope you all enjoyed and be sure to post your comments! Signature shot! What TR would be complete without a sexy, "no trains" shot! SIGNATURE SHOT! This is my favorite photo i took all day without question! ROAR! Why do cyclone's operations have to suck so bad! RAWR! Why is this carousel so slow, and why does it have seatbelts!?!?! -

Oh, remembered another one. Jack Rabbit at Kennywood was originally going to be transformed into the T-bolt in 1967-1968 as it was the park's oldest coaster but they decided to remodel Pippin instead which is the ride we have today. Also i can't belive no one posted this already, but what about BGE's Flungbahn from schwarzkopf? That i really would have liked to see. Hah, the more time i spend reading these-the more rides i remember that were neveer built! -

I'm thinking an Intamin Mega-Lite. the profile reminded me of the mega lite coasters and in the ocuments, "SWISS bank acount" but i guess that could mean B&M as well. -
Planned but Cancelled
Kumbarider1993 replied to Rollercoaster Rider's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Back in 1987, Shockwave at six flags great america was originally planned for great adventure. It was going to be given the theme "Ninja" and a red and white paintjob just like MM's and the same merch and theme. But after Lightnin' Loops, declining attendance, and all the bad press, the ride went to SFGAm instead and SFGAv instead added more family rides in 1988 and removed the bobsled. They were compensated with GASM in 1989 which was improved upon even further an made taller so it could be a record holder (for what, a few weeks!? ). They had problems drawing crowd to the other rides with the ninja theme so they instead opted for a more generic name and borrowed the name from SFOG's woodie. Also what about the planned Arrow Flying Turns for SFOT aroun 1980. Six flags removed the Big Bend speedracer in 1979 so the coaster could be built and Arrow had been working on the ride for a year or so. Arrow made a contract with six flags for 5 flying turns rides starting with SFOT. But as arrow continued testing the ride in california, they had problems controlling it and told six flags who cancelled the contract i think. Soon after, the job went to Intamin and that became the Savajero Bobsleds coasters. Also, Big Bend was shipped to SFSTl after it was taken down in texas and they had plans to build the coaster. By the time the park finally could build the ride, it had rusted so much they couldn't use it so they scrapped it. It's always sad to see a Schwarzkopf coaster be demolished like that. Great Adventure also leased, built, and assembled a Schwarzkopf Jumbo Jet in 1975 but never opened it. it was leased with several other rides in the fun fair section and the deal was the park could lease the rides and if they liked them they coul keep them. There is no known reason why it never opened. It was removed mid-season in 1975 and replaced with the Super Cat. -

Do you recall the original plans for the HR retheme to a congo themed ride? The reason it was cancelled of course was because the movie bombed in theatres when it was released back in 1995. I heard that they were planning Volcano back in 1993 and they removed all the rides from the mountain and closed the safari as well. It was originally going to be themed to Congo but those plans were scrapped as you said when the movie bombed. The ride would have been a floorless Pipeline coaster and KD originally asked B&M and Intamin to do the project. after Congo flopped, the name was going to be "Volcano: A Lava Chaser's Adventure" I read about it on Shane's Amusement Attic, here's a link: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=40361&p=744464&hilit=Volcano#p744464
