Hint: The height is not the record I'm implying, it's the drop. Why would the park put all the hard work into all these teaser videos, then tell the mayor it's alright to tell a newspaper about it? Okay, I'll give you the drop possibly being longer if it goes underground. I still don't think the mayor did anything untoward. I think it along with the teasers is all part of the PR package. The closer we get to full reveal, we get just a little more info. Like I said, what the mayor said comes out Wednesday at the zoning board meeting anyway, and the park knows that.

^^The mayor is not the one who revealed 165 ft. (which is not a record). That was in the agenda for the Gurnee Village Zoning Board. I do not think the mayor would have revealed it was the fastest woodie to the media if the park had told her to keep quiet. She even said there were some details she could not reveal, which implies what she did reveal was approved by the park. How is this not helping the park? It has built a huge buzz. There is plenty we still do not know. We were going to find all this out no later than Wednesday anyway, at the zoning board hearing, and it's before the full announcement on the 29th.

^Sure. The poster is saying Drop Tower is as generic a name as a park can use, like naming a rollercoaster Rollercoaster rather than something more creative. -
Nobody said the mayor violated confidentiality. She said "some parts" of the plan are confidential, meaning she very well may have been allowed (even encouraged to build hype) to reveal it's the fastest woodie. The hype over this info will not hurt the park in the slightest. Now, we anxiously await the full reveal!

They have the Wilderness Theater area to use to, and could even loop around the Yankee Clipper lift hill. I'm leaning towards this being a Premier, but they could fit a RMC woodie. Oh, I know. I think Wilderness Theater needs to go with either type of coaster to free up space. I was just wondering if even with that space in play, there is enough space to support a lift hill 165 ft. high. I would think a more compact woodie would go back there. But, like I said, I am sure they will utilize the space well and and anything is possible.
-
^Would the 165 ft. be the lift then? I would love a RMC woodie, but I just don't see how something with that tall a lift fits in the IW space. Now, I have a feeling that just like with X-Flight, that space will be used well and in ways we never considered to fit a new coaster with something 165 ft., so I am ruling nothing out yet, but I would expect any woodie there to have a smaller lift, like a GCI. I am guessing a launch coaster, but even that will require maximizing avaliable space.

For my family, Mt. Olympus was a good value. We got a nice room for 6 of us for only $99 in June of 2011. That's a great deal to get two days of rides, carts, and water park with the kids. Plus, you have Avalanche/Hellcat down the street, and we hit Little Amerrika on the way home. This week, they have RV sites for $50 for 6 people. Hard to beat that (if you have a camper). Not the best coaster condition or ride ops, but I did not hate it like many do, and I really liked Hades. SFGAm is only 15 minutes away and we have passes there, and of course it's better, but I would go to Mt. Olympus again.

^Yeah, I was just going to say, immediately after that meeting the local media was already saying it was a 150 ft. tall coaster, so it was detailed. Hope that is the case again. The Gurnee zoning board has never denied the height variance, so I don't think the park feels any need to do this two years in advance. Anything to get people to the park and help the tax base looks good to the board.

The "GP" of Theme Parks Facebook Thread!

^^lol at #2. I hardly ever post there because idiots always try to argue with me. I had a guy telling me I was wrong about X-Flight's location and it was going in Iron Wolf's spot two years ago. They are always so sure of themselves. -

I really like The Boss but agree it is quite rough. I wasn't even comfortable holding my hands up on it last year, when normally I do the whole ride on wooden coasters. Two years ago, I was able to keep them up. -
Interesting that one of Screamscape's new rumored possibilities is something 160 ft. tall in Iron Wolf's spot. Back in February this year, he said SFGAm was hoping to add a new launched coaster and was looking over ideas with Premiere, as well as following the response to Premier's Full Throttle at SFMM carefully. Full Throttle is 160 ft. tall. FT clone or similar? Would make sense in IW's spot, though I would think more length would be needed in that spot to fit it (Wilderness Theater area). Other rumor was an RMC rehab of half of Eagle.

^I agree. It's the coaster style people have been hoping for for years at KI, and they have the chance to build an awesome one. -

^Someone on KIC pointed out the photo is just a photoshop job of Gatekeeper's photo in orange, and actually I think they just reused Gatekeeper's page and edited it if I understood correctly. I guess bringing Bat back would be nostalgic, but I just can't see them reusing the name of a coaster that was known more for being down than operating, even if it was a prototype. Bad associations, even if those who rode it enjoyed it. -

I don't think that web page is real. Just screwing with us for fun. A 199 foot lift hill? They could have marketed the first B&M wing coaster to reach 200 ft., and B&M stops one foot short? C'mon!
