  5. ^Thanks, I think that idea for a park would be pretty cool! As long as the park included my favorite ride as a kid, The Bubble Bounce! Another update: Below is Busch's 2006 brochure. The major addition for '06 was Sheikra, the country's first dive coaster. Sheikra changed the park's skyline in a good way! Also this was the year that Busch Gardens Tampa Bay was re-branded Busch Gardens Africa for a couple of seasons. Onto '06's brochure. Enjoy! 6. We are continuing with Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. Today's update features Busch Garden's 2003 brochure. In 2003 the park transformed it's once outdoor dolphin show theater into a climate controlled indoor 4D theater. The opening 3-D film was R.L. Stine's Haunted Lighthouse 4-D which later changed to the present film Pirates 4-D. Once again the format of the brochure continued to be a multi-page brochure ending with a section for Adventure Island. Onto 2003's brochure - enjoy! Busch Gardens Tampa Bay - 2003 Park Brochure. 7. Happy Thanksgiving! Today's update continues with Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. It is only for one year, 2001. In 2001, Busch Gardens began to produce large brochures with multi-pages like Disney and Universal. New for 2001 was Rhino Rally off-road-river attraction. This was also the year that Busch stopped making Adventure Island brochures and started to include the water park as a larger presence in the BGT brochure. Onto 2001's brochure! 8. I miss Questor - it rocked! A similar thing happened to my friends and I, for my 16th birthday in March 1991, we were at the park during a cold front (high 40's). We might I been in the park same time period as you. We were all stupid kids and rode the Tidal Wave and Congo River Rapids. Surprise surprise, we were all super sick the next week!
  9. Thanks Shane, I appreciate the compliment. I've always enjoyed your thread which is always full of great memories too!
  10. Part 3 - Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. This update includes years 1993-1999. The park droped the "Dark Continent" title and opened some of the park's best coasters. Onto the brochures! In 1987, Busch Gardens became home to the rare Chinese Pandas Ling Ling and Yong Yong on loan from the Beijing Zoo. To celebrate the park's 30th anniversary, The Tanganyika Tidal Wave & The reopening of the Swiss House restaurant renamed the Crown Colony House in 1989. 12. Happy early Turkey Day everyone! Today's update is for part one of my home park's brochure collection, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. I've always loved Busch Gardens, it has something for everyone: Thrilling rides, great shows and is one of the top zoos in the country. In this update we look back to the years 1979-1985. I think you will see a lot has changed at the park. Back in '80, the big new coaster was the thrilling Scorpion single looper. The Scorpion will always hold a special place in my heart as being my first upside down coaster when I was 8. You'll notice lots of past attractions that are no longer with us: The African Queen Boat ride (where the Tidal Wave now stands), The Python corkscrew coaster, The Swinging Vines and Monstrous Mama in Congo, The Crazy Camel in Timbuktu and the Monorail over the Serengeti. So come with me and take step back to what was once known as "The Dark Continent Busch Gardens Tampa Bay". Enjoy! Later in the year Busch Gardens Tampa Bay released this second brochure in 1985. 13. Today's update is for a park that was a childhood favorite of mine, even though it was only around for 3 seasons. Boardwalk and Baseball opened after the old park, Circus World closed. The new owners did a lot of improvements to the park including adding more shade, which Circus World was known for being awful in the Florida heat. Another way to battle the heat, a log flume was added to cool off. They also added a wooden boardwalk throughout the park, which actually was easy on your feet. Along with the baseball theme complete with a baseball stadium for the Kansas City Royals spring training, the park's goal was to transport guests to a simpler time in America. It's too bad the park didn't last, but I think a traditional amusement park with standard rides just couldn't compete with the big Orlando players down the street. Till this day everytime I drive from Tampa to Orlando, when I pass the Haines City exit I always think back to B&B with fond memories. Onto the brochures from 1987-1989. Enjoy! 14. ^ Thanks for the info. Ever since I got the brochure when I was a kid, I wondered what Atlantis was like. I'm surprised another water park hasn't opened in South Florida. I would think it would do really well. Thanks again for the info.
  15. I always wondered why they couldn't use standard multi-person rafts like on most family raft slides (like WaHoo Run). I guess it would be really expensive to build the converbelt system for the rafts.
  16. Today's edition features only one brochure. Atlantis The Water Kingdom in Hollywood, FL from 1991. This park from my understanding opened in the early 80's and was ran by Six Flags then was sold. After the new owners re-opened the park in the early 90's, the park was heavily damaged by hurricane Andrew in 1992 and never reopened. I never got to visit, it's too bad because it looks like a fun place. Did anyone ever visit this park? What was it like? Atlantis The Water Kingdom in Hollywood, FL - 1991. 17. Tonight's update is a recent addition to the theme/water park world. From last year, Aquatica. So far this is the only brochure for Aquatica I am aware of. 18. ^ I asked some park employees why the Tampa Typhoon slide was removed a few years ago. I was told they wanted to replace it with a more family friendly and high capacity attraction. That attraction was Riptide - the 4 lane mat racer slide complex. Kind of weird considering that Ripetide isn't even where the Tampa Typhoon was. I think personally TT was just not that popular anymore. I know a lot of people including myself hated getting banged up and welts on your back from that slide. Then again I might not of liked it because I'm getter older! As of last spring when I went to the park, The Water Moccasin's middle tube slide was still part of the attraction. I'm not sure why on the park map it shows it as a 2 slide attraction. The middle slide is always intense, and is very deceiving! I don't even think your back touches the slide, it is so steep! I do remember when the Key West Rapids opened with the clover locking rafts. I always thought it was a shame that they changed the slide to be only single and double tubes. I don't know, maybe the weight of the 4 connecting rafts was too heavy for the structure? It's too bad because that line would move SO much faster!
  19. Thanks everyone, glad you are enjoying this trip down Adventure Island memory lane. I agree, I think it is neat to see how the park has grown and it is cool to see how people's fashions and the brochure's design elements have evolved. For today's update, I finish with the rest of my Adventure Island brochures: Years 1997, 1999, 2000 and a park map/guide from 2008. It's too bad, beginning in 2001, Adventure Island stopped having their own brochure and started only appearing in the last couple of pages of Busch Gardens Tampa Bay's brochures. Oh well, here is today's update. Enjoy! As you can see, the present park map of Adventure Island has grown quite a bit since the first brochure from 1983. Park Map/Guide from 2008. 20. ^ Thanks! Sounds like we are a lot alike. My story is pretty much the same: friends and family would always bring me back theme park brochures from their trips. I started to get a lot of brochures, especially from Florida. Adventure Island has really grown over the years. A major growth happened in the 80's to mid-90's. They seemed to add a new attraction almost every year. And I agree, many trees have filled in a lot of the old empty areas. The many trees now provide nice shaded areas for almost half the park.

  24. Welcome to Eric's Brochure Kingdom! Ever since I moved from Boston to the Tampa Bay area in 1983 at the age of 8, I have collected brochures. Since this was before the internet, when I was young, I cherished any theme park or attraction brochure I was able to get my hands on. I would look at the photos of the park's attractions and dream of visiting someday. As I have gotten older, thanks to TPR I have been able to fulfill some of those dreams. So I thought I might use this thread to share my collection of brochures. I love seeing how attractions and the parks have changed over the years. Also as a graphic artist, it is a trip to see the different design layouts, styles and colors evolve over the years. So come with me and explore a kingdom full of brochures through the years! Hope you enjoy!
