  1. ^ All that makes perfect sense, but I think back to 2000-2001, when SF came right back after Goliath with not one, but three coasters. You gotta assume Cedar Point will be building "something" in 2012 as well. I don't see SFMM giving up the title after one year. That, combined with what the other so-cal parks are doing, and what makes "sense" is going right out the window IMHO.
  2. Although I would prefer a giant Intamin in 2012, I think the logic behind a Dive Machine would have very little to do with coasters the park already has, and more to do with "bang for the buck". As B&M/Intamin goes, the Dive coaster is probably the tallest SFMM can go for the cheapest price. Remember SFMM is nortorious for "est" and "unique to the area" coasters, especially in a competitive year around the so-cal area. An "est" Intamin is going to cost BIG bucks. The Dive coaster gives you the height and speed for much cheaper because they don't do that much after the initial drop. It really comes down to how much the company will budget for 2012, and at least so far, they still seem to be fairly conservative. Besides, if the rumors are true about Knotts 2012, we may end up with the best of both worlds anyway...
  3. I don't even get much air on Goliath anymore. I still like the speed and the open trains, but that third hill is very subpar for me.
  4. That happened after the girl died on the ride. Mid-course trims also got stronger after that. Not that the ride was that much better before hand. I always thought of Goliath as a mediocre hyper-coaster at best compared to the Intamin's and B&M's. Fun? Sure! And if you've never been on any of the other hypers, you're going to love it. But as most coaster enthusiasts goes, Millennium Force opened the same year as Goliath. It was no contest which was the better ride! I agree. Over the years I have adobted a fondness for Goliath, but it really can't compare to the other hypers out there mainly because it was designed to feature one set forces (positive Gs) and little else. I think back to all those "Goliath vs Millennium Force" fanboy threads and think "really"? Goliath isn't even it the same league. And it's just a big, clunky mess compared with the hypers that have opened since. lol I dream of the day SFMM takes another crack at the hyper/giga genre, but there's really no logical reason they would. So, fingers crossed for Knotts!
  5. ^ Agreed. Even Hurricane Harbor gets the shaft compared with other SF waterparks in the chain.
  6. Mr. Six isn't going anywhere according to the Six Flags conference call. But he's going to play a supporting role next year, as the company focuses on the parks and rides themselves.
  7. ^ I agree completely! Unless it's a slow cloudy day on the off season, or a TPR event, I just don't go to SFMM without planning to add a Flashpass. They may be expensive, but totally worth it on crowded days. And I will NEVER ride Green Lantern without a Flashpass in my hand!
  8. Anyone else think SFMM might surprise us and make Green Lantern into a whole new themed area, with some new landscaping, viewing area and a couple of family flat rides ala Gotham? One can only hope, but I think this would be a great way to add a new coaster, plus silence a few complains that there's nothing for non coaster riders to do.
  9. Do we know for sure that they aren't moving the kiddie coaster to another area of the park? I can't imagine they would want to lose a coaster from their count.
  10. This is completely what is wrong with Magic Mountain, though. Why can't more amusement parks learn things from well balanced parks like Dollywood or Busch? In almost every instance where there is a major "thrill" ride, there is a family ride, family play area, or a family attraction next to it. This way when you go to the park with your family, and some of them are not 48" or 54", you don't have to split up at opposite sides of the park away from your group. For example, Dollywood has that awesome water play area and the kids playground right in between Mystery Mine and Thunderhead, and then there is the Splash Battle in between Mystery Mine and Tennessee Tornado. Your family never has to go too far away and it's easy to baby-swap and trade off with the bigger kids. If you are at Six Flags Magic Mountain with a smaller child, and want to ride either Deja Vu or Terminator, the closest "kids" ride to you is either the Carousel at the front of the park, or the Scrambler. It would have been a perfect fit for that area. But then again, it doesn't appear that SFMM will really be targeting "families" anymore... Oh I don't disagree with you at all ! I would love it if the park included family, kids and non-coaster attractions all over the park, much like Kings Island does. I just felt like this second hand coaster with the Mr.Six theme just kind of randomly plopped down felt weird to me. I'd rather see these type of investments made with at least a little attention to detail. I also feel like the current state of the park's kids area is downright pathetic, and needs all the help it can get. But no by all means I agree! I wish SFMM would strike a balance between coasters and kids/family rides.
  11. I'm glad they changed the location of the skater. It seemed like it would have been so out of place randomly plopped next to Deja Vu.
  12. ^ Which is why I began my question with the full knowledge that it's from a promotional animated video. It's unlikely I know, especially with the enormous task of painting Supes. But it does look great!
  13. ^ True. But the ZacSpin and Deja Vu are both funky looking stationary coasters, while Riddlers has more of a traditional extended layout. Not to mention the green reflects the characters the coasters are based on. So to me it makes more sense to change Deja's colors.
  14. Two interesting things from the video. 1) Interesting the the top third of the Superman tower will be painted red. A new bench mark for how high the cars will go up the tower? Something tells me our Intamin tower backwards launch will be different than it's Dreamworld counterpart. But I won't get my hopes up just yet. 2) Yeah, yeah ...I know you can't go by a promotional video for accuracy. But is that a fresh coat of paint on Scream I see? 3) And one more thing... Is it possible that Deja Vu is closed partly because it will recieve a new color scheme as not to be redundantly identified with Green Lantern? Hymmmmm....
  15. I agree with Elissa. SFMM's summer crowds aren't any worse than Knotts. It's really time to do away with all those old stereotypes about SFMM. Bad people exist everywhere, and no matter where they are or what they're drinking, they should be held accountable for their behavior. Most of us will be just fine with a beer or two.
  16. ^ Making things worse is the fact that once again, CGA is adding squat, and has basically thrown up their hands and givin up.
  17. ^ Two tracks, plus if X2 and Terminator are any indication, this will be more of a ride "re-launch" as oppose to simply a backwards launch. SFMM will want to market the ride as a completely new experience like X2. I just hope at least one side features a tunnel.
  18. I guess I'm in the minority in not really caring that much if SFMM adds a bunch of flat rides or not. The people wanting flats so bad will be the same ones disappointed when they arrive at the park to find them closed half the time due to staffing issues *coughsfgradvcough*. I'd rather the park add a couple of REALLY good modern flats, and then move on to investing in a coaster that combines elements of thrill with a dark ride element. Something like Mystery Mine, or even a small scale pre-launch show like Blue Fire.
  19. 100 mph or not, the problem is that the ride is a one trick pony so the appeal was limited from the start. After you ridden it once or twice, the novelty simply wears off. I found the same thing (to a lesser extent) with TTDand KK. One trick and you're done. I like the ride because it's fun to see how scared people are "before" they ride it.
  20. I don't remember claiming to not care about Superman The Escape. I loved the lapbars too, as they were the first that I rode which used hydraulics instead of pneumatics to stay closed. They were nice cause it gave you freedom to look around while you were at the top of the tower. Not a fan of the OTSR's as I've heard the thigh complaints, however I've never been on a coaster with them so I'll hold judgement until I ride. But if that's what it takes to launch it backwards then there's nothing we can do about it. I wasn't singling you out specifically. I seen complaining on other sites too, the same people who claim to hate the ride.
