  1. I really enjoy these pictures, especially since some of them are from my home state! When I took my only trip to Carowinds in 2009, I didn't care too much for the place. I felt that Afterburn was okay, but the woodies definitely were the best. However, Ricochet will hold a small spot in my heart because it was my 100th roller coaster.
  2. I will say this about the project: it probably had potential at some point during the beginning of it, but now all of that is clearly forgotten. I wanted to try and save a roller coaster as well, but after carefully assessing everything necessary to get the project going, I decided against it. I clearly did not have the money, resources, or time to take on a project like that. I saved myself all of the humiliation that Kat is currently facing. After reading more about this failed project, I am very glad I backed out of it when I did.
  3. I'll agree that SFA could be the next park to go. In my opinion, Wild One and Joker's Jinx are the only good coasters, although I never did get to ride Batwing. I found my only visit there to be utterly disappointing.
  4. I agree with this in its entirety. The flier restraints are absolutely wonderful! When I rode Manta for the first time, I was extremely comfortable. That's something I think Intamin needs to do a little bit more work on. That's the main reason I feel that B&M is better than Intamin.
  5. Thanks for pointing out the old double-dip-up on the second hill. I actually forgot that was even in the concept art for the ride! That would have been a very intense element, but Phantom's Revenge is still one of my favorite steel coasters regardless!
  6. I don't see how Maverick is considered "underrated." Many people here on TPR rank it as one of their favorites. I, for one, am one of the few people who feel it is overrated.
  7. A lot of good points have been raised here. For the most part, it must just be my very strange tolerance of pain. For example, I love riding Gwazi in the back seat (if it wasn't apparent by the user name) even though it's very rough. However, I did not like The Voyage because I found it painful. It's odd, but I guess that's what gives me my unorthodox taste in roller coasters that generally doesn't agree with most enthusiasts.
  8. I still don't see how people find it smooth though. Every time I've ridden it, if I didn't hold my head against the restraint, I got whacked around a lot. i haven't seen the I305 restraints, so maybe they would work.
  9. You do have a point there with height. I always have seemed to be just the right height to get whacked a lot by harnesses in the past. Maybe CP should consider investing in some more comfortable restraints for Maverick.
  10. I've been to the former Six Flags Power Plant, but in recent years. Now a series of stores and restaurants are located within the old power plant.
  11. Typically Breakers Express is under $100/night. Hotel Breakers can be $100-$200/night depending on where you stay in the hotel.
  12. I was kind of under the impression that most twisty coasters hurt in their own way. To be honest, the only problem with Maverick is the restraint. There are ways of riding it to avoid being hurt, you just have to know how to do it. It really is the restraints that cause all of the pain. After riding it a few times, I too learned how to hold my head properly without getting hurt. I don't mind doing this, but it just robs away from the enjoyment of the ride for me.
  13. This is kind of off the original topic, but I am seriously the only person on TPR that doesn't like Maverick? I mean, Maverick HURTS (curse those over-banked turns). I can only ride it once per CP trip and the only reason I even bother to ride it is because I'm at the park. Even though I did not enjoy the ride in '07, a friend of mine told me it was much better in '08 (they didn't really like it in '07 either), but I didn't notice a difference. When this was under construction, I couldn't WAIT to ride it, but after getting off that first ride, I was utterly disappointed. Is there anyone else on TPR sharing my opinion?
  14. I have friends who have ADHD and we go to parks together all the time. Half of them don't even get treatment for it. I've never had a problem with them waiting for any ride. We even went to Kings Island on opening day and they never had trouble waiting over 2 hours each for Flight of Fear, Diamondback, and Firehawk.
  15. All in order of visit: -Kings Island x3 -Cedar Point -Waldameer -Lakemont Park -Kennywood x3 -Holiday World
  16. Even though I know I'm restating what others have said, the CP hotels are well worth the price. If you're looking for a less expensive hotel, try Breakers Express. It's nice for the price. If you want to spend more, go for Hotel Breakers. Being on the peninsula within walking distance of the gate is simply great! However, if you don't want to stay at one of the CP hotels, do NOT stay at the Econo Lodge across the way. It's filthy, stinky, and just plain awful.
  17. You do seem to see a lot of strange things happen at Kennywood these days. A few years ago there was an incident with Kenny Kangaroo, but all the witnesses were told "it never happened" by park management.
  18. I've had this happen to me as well on Backlot. If I remember correctly, it happened at KI's version. I can't even imagine what it's like on I305. I think Intamin took this one too intense for the GP. Intamin has appeared to be going too far in this direction unfortunately. I LOVE Intamin's late 1990s through early 2000s coasters, but it seems like they've gotten rougher and more intense since then. Maverick at CP really fits the bill on this. Maverick is PAINFUL to say the least. I mean, I can only ride this once during an entire trip to CP. I305 just looks like Maverick on steroids. When I first saw Robb's video after the ride's debut, I was actually AFRAID to ride I305. Not because of its height or speed, but because of the forces and pain that are experienced during the ride. I am planning a trip to KD next Spring and I'm hoping I305 will be worth a re-ride.
  19. This would be amazing to see again on Magnum. I've ridden Magnum at night without these lights, but that wouldn't be hard for CP to reinstall.
  20. I agree with this. Grizzly is an incredible wooden coaster, especially in the backseat. This coaster was my #2 woodie for years.
  21. This coaster looks like it's going to be interesting, but I really hope it doesn't turn out like Maverick did.
  22. Whoa! That's quite a blow to the face! When I went to BGT, I don't remember really all that many seagulls, just ibises.....lots of ibises......
  23. I for one don't believe that Griffon is overrated. It is definitely my favorite steel roller coaster. However, before Griffon's construction, I always thought Alpengeist was BG's best. Apollo's Chariot is excellent as well though.
  24. Great pics! How did you get to do this tour of yours?
  25. Here's a few of my favorites. All of them are from CoasterMania and were taken with my iPhone 3G. The only editing I did was to resize them. Millennium Force's red train just as the sun came up. I love how I captured the pure speed of Millennium Force during its morning test runs. Sunrise + Millennium Force + The Moon = Pure Roller Coaster Beauty I still don't understand how this shot came out so well, but I love it still. My absolute favorite of all. From this angle, these two coasters are so beautiful.
