  1. Wow, well this was definetly an interesting experience. We call the park from the highway at 7 15 as the rain is starting to pick up again, to check to see if/which RIDES were open. Well it turned out the PARK was closing a 8 00. I was very upset. We get to the park at 7 30, and we did not really know where to go, since it was our first time at the park. I was told that the park closed if they had less than 2,000 people (could be someone of TPR that told me), and that this was why they closed. This also made sense as the weather cleared by 8 00. We rode El Toro, Bizzaro and Nitro. Full TR when I get home later this week.
  2. The Best and Worst Endings can be found (out of the parks I have been to) in the Coasters at SFSTL. Best Ending RKMT: The ending used to better with the flashing lights, but it is still great, especially when its night. The whole ride is average until then, where its drop is bother fun and thrilling. Worst Endings: Ninja: Ends with a helix where you have to brace yourself or else you will hurt your head. Boss: I like the ride until the helixes, which I think add nothing to the ride and are rough.
  3. Name: Jake J Age: 15 What is your roller coaster count? 48 What is your home park? Six Flags St. Louis What is the nearest big city? St. Louis What is your occupation? Student About how many times a year do you visit a park (including your home park)? 8 About how many times a year do you travel to a park that is not your home park? Maybe an average of three, but could be more (this year is five). When you travel do you go primarily to amusement parks or do you also try and hit other sites? I try to hit other sites definitely! What is the farthest you’ve traveled to go to an amusement park? 250 just solely to go to a park, but have been to parks while on other vacations. Does roller coaster time get in the way of family time? (Do you choose to miss your children’s or family’s sporting events, holidays, birthdays, etc…) Not really a good question for me, as I plan my trips to theme parks on weekends when I won't be busy. My theme park trips this year were rushed, as it was the only time I could go. Do you have any other major hobbies? Yes, Sports. Do you get feelings of sadness in the offseason? Do you even have an offseason? Do you travel during the offseason? I look forward to the season, especially if there is a new addition to the park. Last year I hit SeaWorld Orlando over Thanksgiving, but I do not travel just for theme parks. Do you consider yourself friends with someone you met who works at an amusement park? (Or reverse it, if you work or worked and an amusement park have you made friends with enthusiasts?) No. Would it bother you to go to an amusement park by yourself? I would rather go with a friend or family, but I would definitely go to an amusement park by myself over doing nothing else. Have you gone to an amusement park by yourself? If so have you ever ran into another enthusiast and tagged along with them? Do you find it easy to make friends with other enthusiasts? I guess so. Many have a good sense of humor How do you get your coaster news? Screamscape, or if I hear it posted. I read about Evel Kneival in the STL post, but that was before I was a real fanatic (2 years ago). How many different forum sites do you regularly post on? 2 If there was a poll that asked a large pool of enthusiasts what their favorite roller coaster is, what do you think would be the top 3 responses be for wood? And for steel? Idk, look at the Mitch Hawker Poll. S:ROS is always on top, then I don't know. For wood, the Intamin pre-fabricated Woodies are on top. Same scenario but for amusement parks, what would be the top 3? uh...these are guesses.... BGE, Cedar Point, SFGADV Have you ever “stole a kid” to get a credit on a kiddie coaster? Haha no. I am still innocent. Do you cut other categories out of your budget to make trips to parks? (Entertainment, fast food, holidays, tobacco or alcohol, etc…) Rarely buy food or anything at the park. Before you visit a new park do you research the park finding the best way to navigate the park, get the best deals, or what days to go? Yes, but normally I can only go certain days so I don't have a choice. Do you feel the roller coaster enthusiast community is a warm and accepting community, or a negative and discouraging community? Depends, I have heard people trash others for making GP-type comments, and that their opinion was wrong. Do you like to talk about your hobby with people who are not roller coaster enthusiasts? Yes, but I don't want to sound like I know so much more than them, as they might be turned off about coasters when they brag that they went on "Mr Freeze" and I tell them their are coaster twice the size and almost twice the speed.
  4. YoshiFan, I got your great advice on Coasterbuzz, I just could not believe that Friday nights would be so empty. If you went to two Friday Fright Fest nights, you would definitely be the most knowledgable person here (unless there is a staff member) who has commented.
  5. I completely agree with you, as the point of a TR should be to give an honest opinion, and say how the park could improve.
  6. ^^ True, true. Time to start babysitting NOW ^ And at SFSTL, there is not much to do with Fright Fest (Haunted House and Hayride were pay-extra attractions last year), and I am not sure if there were even considered scare-zones anywhere. After considering your points, I may be able to convince my dad to get the Flash Pass. How does it work at SFGA, do you scan at the rides or anywhere (I have never gotten a FP before)? Thanks
  7. I would do it but I don't think my dad would pay $130 for the flash pass when we probably will be at the park four-five hours. It did not say anything on the sight for discounted flash passes for late openings, so unfortunately I don't think we will get it.
  8. ^That pretty much answers my question-Thanks. I think we will play it by year, and as long as we are at the gate by 5, see how many coasters we can ride before the crowds fill. If we can get KK and El Toro in before 6, we probably won't get the flash pass.
  9. ^ Yes lol I saw this, Thanks though. I just wanted to know specifically about Friday nights. I cannot see 5 PM on a Friday being packed, but since SFGA is in one of the most densely populated areas of the United States, I assume it will be at least somewhat crowded. I think you would have to have been to one or two Friday Night Fright Fests to give a good answer, as the differences between Fri night and Sat night crowds can be huge. I still am leaning against the Gold Flash Pass, as only 4 coasters there are that important to me (KK, El Toro, Nitro, S:UF) and the rest (Bizzaro, Batman, GASM, Dark Knight) would all great to get rides on, but I don't know if I would get a Gold Flash Pass just to rack up the credits (and there would not be much reason to get the regular flash pass I would think).
  10. I will be going to SFGA for my first time on Friday, October 16. As with all parks, I assume we should get there at opening (5:00 PM). I do not plan to by a Flashpass as I do not have a full day at the park, and I have heard that Friday Fright Fest nights are not so bad. I really do not know what is considered not so bad though as I have read SFGA trip reports with wait times for the major coasters approaching two hours. What should I be expecting in terms of crowds, and line waits for El Toro, KK and Nitro? I assume it would be a good idea to start with KK and hit El Toro, Bizzaro and S:UF before walking to the other side of the park, but advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and expect a TR when I get back.
  11. I have never had a rough ride on EK, nor on Prowler, nor on KR. Could MF's run on such a big coaster like Texas Giant? When GCI retracked Boulder Dash, MF's were not put on, correct?
  12. Inventory: 1978 Great Adventure Brochure
  13. Jerrykoala- I found an old park brochure from SFGADV from 1978, is that considered "valuable" to collectors like you?
  14. Well... I hope you are not disappointed. In past years, I have been disappointed by Fright Fest, as it gets a lot of hype but does not fully deliver compared to other parks Halloween Festivities. In previous years, there have been no free haunted houses, or "scare zones." However, there are a few actors who randomly jump out, but nothing consistent.
  15. I see SFKK and other parks have their own thread, so why not SFSTL? The park has seen improvement in rides, customer service and cleanliness every year for the past 5 years or so... Hopefully we will continue to get attention from the management in coming years (Hyper in 2011!). I searched and could not find a thread of this nature before, but correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe we can try to find and link the updates and trip reports from SFSTL to this front page, to make it easier to find information.
  16. I don't think you read the rest of my post, I never stated I believed the article. Further explanation: I have tried to change a Wikipedia article before and did not site a source at the bottom. My change was gone within hours. This change has no source cited and it has been here for days. I never said I believed the article, I just thought it was interesting that it had not been changed. I hope it goes to SFSTL. The selection would be on par (or near on par) with SFOG and SFGAM if it comes here.
  17. Not that wikipedia carries much weight to me as anyone can edit it, but I still found this interesting on the Chang Article. It reads: "There is still speculation as to which Six Flags park Chang will be moved to. Sources say the lead parks are Six Flags St. Louis and Six Flags America, contrary to the belief that Chang is going to Six Flags Great America." The reason I am bringing this up is that I read the article a few days ago and this was there, and I saw it again today. Therefore, it has not been edited, which is odd. Normally BS stuff is edited pretty fast. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chang_%28roller_coaster%29
  18. Darn- school starts early here (around August 16). Maybe 2011 or 2012. Thanks for the quick reply.
  19. I definitely want to meet you guys (my dad and I) at SFSTL, but about the dates: I would try to convince my dad to go on the Intimidator trip, but how late into August would you anticipate this trip being?
  20. Magic Springs this year was disappointing because three coasters were closed (including the two premiere coasters, Twister and X), but the day could have been so much worse. I mean, I was at a theme park! And the water park made the day a lot of fun. Coasterwise, it was disappointing however. Also, I have had so many trips to my home park, so one visit with high crowds just means I come back later.
  21. ^^Wow- I didn't realize there was a database of all trip reports so easy to use. Should have looked there first. Thanks So Robb, how does Jubillee Odyssey compare to B: TR?
  22. Reposting a question that has not been answered, since I assume some people have ridden this: Has anyone here ridden Jubilleee Odyssey? That is one giant*ss loop. http://www.rcdb.com/1413.htm According to Wiki, it cost 28 million to build. That is more than most or all B&M inverts. This figure seems high, so it may not be true. Apparently, its Cobra Roll was so big that the coaster sometimes stalled on it, not making it out of the other side. Is this custom SLC better than the regular clone?
  23. Has anyone here ridden Jubilleee Odyssey? That is one giant*ss loop. http://www.rcdb.com/1413.htm According to Wiki, it cost 28 million to build. That is more than most or all B&M inverts. This figure seems high, so it may not be true. Apparently, its Cobra Roll was so big that the coaster sometimes stalled on it, not making it out of the other side. And I have been on three SLC's. One sucked (T2), and two were pretty good (Serial Thriller at SFWOA and Gauntlet at Magic Springs), with Serial Thriller being the superior. B:TR at SFSTL is superior to all three, but I rode Serial Thriller awhile back, so its a tough comparison. SLC's do have a lower height requirement, which is a nice plus. The capacity is much worse however.
  24. ^^ Thats what I'm talking about! Yeah! Hmm... it would not be easy to expand unless you went further back behind Boss or Screaming Eagle. Now if we remove Ninja, then that would give them some room to work with (though many things would still have to be moved around). I think its still unlikely given all the talk of SF Great America.
  25. Not even close. SFKK water park is good for an amusement park included water park. They have three very good slides (Bowl, Tornado, Deluge). Splashin' Safari would be a great water park even without its amusement park, and with Wildebeest, contends with the some of the top waterparks in the world with its quality of slides and good capacity.
