  1. I just did a return visit to Cedar Point from LA last month since 1997, I think. Whenever they added the trim brake on Mantis. Anyway, I didn't want to spend forever traveling, so United it was as it's the only non stop flight. 4.5 hours compared to 7ish at best. It wasn't that much more to justify waiting around in another airport. Although, the flights aren't cheap. Cleveland isn't a vacation destination or at the least popular like Chicago, New York, etc. I booked way late and paid for it, but didn't care. It could have been as low as $350 when I originally started looking. I did stay at Maui Sands. When we drove up, after passing some other decent looking hotels, I was not impressed by the outer shell. Still wasn't too impressed by the front desk area. But, the room was great. Comfy bed, really clean, large, I had the "family room". I think it's the smallest of their rooms. With 2 bunk beds for kids and a privacy door. Also small fridge and microwave. Walmart is across the street so we saved on snacks and drinks there. Definitely had to rent a car to get there and into the park. Maui Sands is something like 5-6 miles away from Cedar Point. Some stuff I will do different next year. get flight earlier, duh. buy platinum pass at Knott's before. I contemplated it, but was on the budget and some tickets on ebay was still a good savings. If it were earlier in the year, I wouldn't have hesitated. I'd like to go for 3 days instead of 2. We were a bit rushed to get in as much as we wanted. Fastlane is a must, imo. Oh, and most of all..Top Thrill Dragster front row just after the sun goes down in July, big no no. Thanks for the help! I'm going to keep shopping around but I would rather pay for a faster and direct flight than one that has a stop(s). And why no Top Thrill Dragster, front row, after the sun goes down??? lol
  2. My advice is to stay at Breakers Express. The rates really aren't too bad, it's Clean, Comfortable, and close to the park. You will also receive 1 hour of extra ride time in the morning if you stay there, on select rides. Any ideas which rides they usually open up for early entry?
  3. No platinum pass! And thank you for reminding me about the early entry with that hotel.
  4. There were some options like the Maui Sands that we are considering but I'll keep showing the wifey pictures of places in the area and see which one she likes the best! Thanks again!
  5. Thank you for that! For sure then I'll rent a car. We are only going to be there for a few days so I wouldn't want to take time off our vacation trying to figure out the transit system. I'll check United just in case for airfare as well. And I was looking for hotels in the sandusky area so if we do choose do go that route does anyone have any hotels in that area you recommend? And we were planning to go to the park on Saturday but from what you wrote we'll probably bump that to sunday!
  6. Thanks for the reply. We don't mind amenities on our flight. I was looking into Spirit airlines but they don't fly real close to that area so we're probably taking southwest for the flight. My wife wants a hotel that's "decent" in space(a room that doesn't have the bed right next to the door) so I might have to shell out the extra bucks for that. I
  7. (By the way moderators, if this is not the suitable place for this topic please feel free to move it, thanks!) Hey there everyone! I'm trying to make a trip to Cedar Point a reality for my wife and I to enjoy this fall season. We live in Los Angeles and we've always wanted to visit Cedar Point and I think this October we might be able to make that happen! I saw that Cedar Point is only open on weekends in that time frame so we're either traveling on October 10th-12th or October 16th-18th. So this is where I need all your help... What airline(s) are inexpensive to fly to Sandusky/Cleveland area from L.A., any hotel recommendations around the area that aren't too expensive, are there any buses and/or shuttles to the park or should I get a rental car, how's the weather around that time of year, what crowds should we expect and any other advice you can give a couple of westcoasters heading to the eastern U.S. of A.??? Thanks everyone in advance!
  8. Anyone know what rides are down today at the park? By the way, how's the weather out there? Here near downtown LA it's pretty much grey sky and humid.
  9. My wife and I are going tomorrow and we're sad to hear about Lex Luthor being down. On a positive note we're excited to ride Full Throttle! Hopefully the weather isn't too bad.
  10. Awesome! Just have to clarify some things in our schedule and hopefully my wife and I can attend this year after a 3 year hiatus.
  11. I was beyond terrified just looking at the ride when my elementary school had field trips to Knott's Berry Farm.
  12. Thanks for posting that great picture! I was looking at it as well and notice something different about it, but I couldn't put my finger on it. Thanks for the explanation!
  13. Let me try this again just in case I didn't get it right the first time... I've heard people say they are scared of riding shuttle coasters (Ex: Montezooma's Revenge) because they think it can fly off the track.
  14. I'm not really sure if this fits this thread but I've heard this rumor numerous times from friends that are scared of rollercoasters, that if they close their eyes during the ride it makes it less scary for them to ride. Personally I think it's scarier not knowing whats happening during the ride.
  15. I still miss Boomerang's blue color. These new colors are very bright but I'm happy it got a new coat of paint. I thought I saw, on facebook, a picture of Windseeker with the water weight dummies onboard. Maybe they are doing some testing to hopefully get it up and running for the summer.
  16. Seeing some of these pictures reminds me a lot of 'Speed: The Ride' when it was at the Sahara. (Especially the ones that have the track coming out of the tunnel.) I'm really glad to see the track getting installed, and I hope we don't have to wait too long for it to open... Not holding my breathe though!
  17. ^ Thanks for the advice! Jaguar is a fun coaster to marathon in and thank you for letting us know about bringing some 'cushion' for ourselves while we ride! We hope we can join because it sounds like a great opportunity to help kids enjoy life no matter what obstacles they face!
  18. You don't HAVE to ride the entire time, but I think if you're signing up for the event, you should try to stick with the group and ride as much as possible to show your support. I know a lot of people last year seemed to just ride once or twice, and then just take off and do whatever they wanted to in the park. While I know there is nothing stopping anyone from doing this, I kinda think that if the park has gone out of their way to reserve you spots on the coaster, organize the event, etc, you should probably stick with the other event participants. But yes, you can totally take breaks if you need to or start to feel tired, etc. I totally agree! If we join, we understand the purpose and we want to follow through with the commitment we make with the GTKW organization and the people who sponsor us. I'm just glad to know the breaks are given as needed because we haven't done an event like this before. I appreciate everyone's helpful advice!
