Not sure I quite understand what you're saying, or how it changes what I said. The park claims the tower is 415 feet tall. Based on that stat alone, the riders on Lex Luther will not reach a height of 400 feet in the air. Which is a shame considering they very easily could have broken the record, if all they had done is brought the ride to the top of the tower like they said they would. Right now, the ride falls for 3.64 seconds before slowing, and if it fell for 3.86 seconds instead (a mere 1/5 of a second longer), it would have hit 85 mph. (22mph^2 is the acceleration of gravity every second, divided by 80mph is 3.64 seconds, divided by 85mph is 3.86 seconds). Giant Drop, the fastest drop ride in the world, hits 84mph and falls for 3.82 seconds. Hey BlakeCoaster, you sound like a smart guy. I was wondering if you or anyone else can do a comparison chart of the height of Lex Luthor Drop of Doom to the downtown skyline in LA. I always wondered how that tower would look if it was placed with L.A. skyline. Any takers??? P.S. I posted a picture of something very similar below.

I thought your questions and curiosity were fair and legit. Glad it was finally answered. Honestly, I don't think there is anything wrong with wanting to know the height. Trust me, you haven't been any of those things you mentioned. Really, the only thing that I found a little annoying about this whole discussion was when there was some complaining about it not going to the very top of the tower. Also, thank-you metrock for that info. Hopefully now we can put an end to this "record breaking drop or not" discussion. Thank you for that. I can't wait to know the final stats, so if anyone finally knows them please post them.

Honestly guys, have I been anal, discouraging, a cry baby, a downer, demeaning, or annoying in any of my recent post discussing the final height of the ride? I really believe I've been pretty calm about it. I'm sorry if I have but I think I've only been discussing it and not being any of those things mentioned above.

Is it really "ridiculous" discussing about something that pertains to a ride that is about to open? Honestly I don't know why it would bother people just because we want to know a certain statistic about a ride. I for one like to know the stats about rides. I personally feel it's pretty cool knowing how tall something is, how fast it is or anything else that makes me say "wow, that's awesome." I haven't read, since I've been posting about the height issue, anyone feeling discouraged about the height. I think we all have been discussing it pretty openly without any interruption. If the topic is getting "tired" then it will end until we (the people who actually do care) learn the final stats of the ride. Just please be thankful our discussion hasn't been like this... "Man I really hate Six Flags!!!! THEY LIED TO US!!!! I wanted it to be 400 feet and higher!!!! Why can't they just drop us from the very top of the tower??????!!!!!!! Engineers are smart people, they should be able to make it work like that!!!! I want my record and I'm going to cry about it I get it!!!!!!!!!" Thank you. Six Flags didn't lie to you. You are assuming they are lying because of you looking at a bunch of random pictures, guessing the ride looks to be 10 to 30 ft from the top, and what your eyes are telling you. Until we get some real numbers, it's all just a bunch of random guessing. Crying about it really isn't going to change anything to be frank. Take a breath and wait for real details to come before you draw your conclusions about a ride that you haven't even been on. If SFMM states they are going to break the record, you better believe it will be higher than 390 ft. By how much, who knows?? I'm guessing the entire drop does count the brakes at the bottom of the tower so really 10 ft in my eyes means nothing. I hope I'm not coming off rude, and if so, I apologize up front. I guess my sarcasism needs some work...

I wasn't not arguing that point neither but I do remember in their teaser videos claiming the drop to be at least 400ft. I personally just want that fact to be a reality. Again just my thoughts on a ride that I told myself back in 1998, "Man wouldn't it be great to have a freefall ride attached to that tower." So I'm very grateful and excited as a SFMM fan for it.

If you think the lack of comprehension in this thread is entertaining, you definitely need to take a look at this one. I don't know how that thread lacks comprehension. The original article was pointless and I doubt it helped anyone. But you clearly have a condescending attitude towards those with my opinion. Anyway, I was surprised at how soon SFMM was attempting to open the ride after construction, so I think it's not too outrageous to postpone the opening date, although they should have announced it earlier. To those who complain about how far up the carriage goes: Consider yourselves lucky that SFMM actually spent time and money building the tallest and possibly best Drop Tower (which is my favorite non-coaster ride). As a person who has not "complained" but rather point out a concern about the height of the vehicle, I really do hope that they reach the record breaking height they've been announcing. Again, I only speak for myself, from what I have seen form the pictures and where the ride vehicle stops, it doesn't look like it reaches the record breaking height nor probably freefall enough to break "The Giant Drop" record. Again I don't work for Magic Mountain nor do I think I know it all (because I really hope I'm wrong and the record is broken) I'm just going by what I've seen from the updates here and on their facebook page.

Again, Summer started last week, hardly the middle. Second, you're comparing a seasonal park and a year around park. SFMM has to worry about keeping as many rides and midways open all while buiding a ride. If they weren't open year around, they probably could have brought a huge crane in, parked it on the midway and got the stairs moved and the ride up in a much shorter time. CF has the whole park to use because they're not open to the public. Apples to Oranges... Took the words right out of my mouth.

I'm still interested not to argue but just to know the final stats of this amazing ride. Just by looking at this picture the vehicle looks to be 30-40 feet from the top. I hope that they need more testing to adjust the final height to claim their world record. I think someone said Giant Drop's drop is 390ft so I they just need a little more time to finalize the drop height... I assume and hope. (Please don't rip this post as I'm just going by the picture and no I'm not an engineer and I don't think I know it all. And if you're wondering how I came up with the numbers I just assumed the superman shield sign is 10ft tall and calculated the remaining distance from the vehicle)

Let's forget the numbers for a moment here because only SFMM knows how tall the actual drop distance is. Now, would SFMM, who loves to boast and advertise about all of their records, open this and not have it be the tallest? Doesn't "The Giant Drop" also not fall from the very top? Once again, I'm not complaining and yes I understand that no drop tower falls from the very top of any structure. I do know SFMM advertises with solid informaiton and not with random numbers they draw up in their heads, I just wanted some clarification on the subject, that's all.

Just to clarify this post is not to complain about the ride. I enjoy Six Flags Magic Mountain and drop rides a lot and I'm excited and scared to ride in the near furture. I just needed some clarification on a few things and hopefully you guys and gals can help me out. I know the total height of the tower for Lex Luthor Drop of Doom is 415ft but I do agree that it's probably 20-30 feet away from the top of the tower. Assuming my numbers are correct (which I'm pretty sure they're not) that would probably make the drop between 385-395 ft. I'm not going to complain for 5ft but I was wondering if this ride will still beat "The Giant Drop" or "Blue Falls" for both tallest drop tower and tallest drop in a drop tower. I hope that made sense, thanks again!
