  1. ^^Yep, cause Fahrenheit and TTD are so original. Fahrenheit is a newer version of Maverick, essentially, and TTD's original brother is Xcelerator here at Knott's But TTD and Kingda Ka are apparently not alike either

My "favorite" part of the show was the Firehawk segment. That was the only one where I was seriously annoyed with all the people involved. New? Future? It's an old ride that got a new paint job and new trains. The B&M Flyers are more revolutionary than the Dutchman. And the guy they had doing the "commentary" during the ride was a real winner

  2. Just watched it, and was picking out all the little details the whole way through. At one point my mom asked me who I was talking to (just so you know, I'm just going into college and am not crazy... well, not completely crazy ). It bugged me how they showed TTD and Kingda Ka, the supossed "King of Coasters" *Bullcrap* and they didn't mention that they both use the same launch system.

It was funny to watch though, because it was essentially a show for GP who wanted to feel like enthusiasts. That Terminal Velocity did look sick though!

Oh, and does anyone happen to know who that "Coastin' Steve" guy was? An Acer, or just some guy who's a nut on another website? (you know, much like our beloved Big Mike)

PS- I could pick this apart, and it would be fun, but I'd rather wait and see how the topic evolves I think Robb should do a full blown documentary (has he?) and see if Travel Channel wants to air it Blow the GP's minds!

  3. You can get 1 Fast Lane ticket where you can go on any 4 rides that has the Fast Lane:

-Tatsu (WORTH IT! You skip the long line & go right to the boarding station!)

    -Goliath

    -Riddler's Revenge

    -Batman

    -Scream

    -Colossus

    -Gold Rusher

    -Revolution

    -Tidal Wave

    -Jet Stream

    -Log Jammer

    -Viper

This is the list they give you once you purchase your Fast Lane ticket. I would use your 4 Fast Lanes for Tatsu. None of the other coasters have really long lines. Too bad X2 isn't on there yet. Hopefully by next summer they will add it!

If you hit up the back later in the day, I'd recommend using the Flah Pass on Goliath and Batman. Those two rides really start to crowd when the GP realizes that Tatsu, Viper, X2, and Revolution aren't the only rides in the pakr. Riddler's usually has a decent wait, but if you hit the back row, it isn't that bad.

Honestly, Tatsu is slightly overrated, so using the Flash Pass purely on it would be a waste (to me). It's an experience, but not THAT great. But hey, if you like it, by all means, go ahead.

  4. Old... news! That's disgusting. Every accelerator offers a different experience, and every launcher offers a different experience. But think about it, you worried about a B&M, which are probably the safest and the smoothest of the coasters (simply because they don't try and push the envelope in height and speed and what not).

Trust me, you'll be fine. If you're boys get a little hurt, oh well. If you pass out, then you've got some med-problems and probably shouldn't be riding the steel beasts in the first place

  5. Rule 1: No baggy clothes. I love Riddler's Revenge (the better stand up), but when I where baggy pants, my boys hurt a bit.

Rule 2: Especially on the first ride, don't lock it all the way up. Have it more in a sitting position, then it'll have less toll on you legs. But hey, if you're up to it, put some space there (as mentioned several times), only problem will be, your legs turn to jello.

Rule 3: Head against headrest. It's an ok ride, but the trims on the first drop make the ride super slow. Of course, dsiclaimer with this rule. I have a lopsided head, and the headrests for Mantis bulge out slightly, so my head hurt because of riding it.

Have fun. And, honestly, no one has said it, but it's kinda pathetic that you're going to Cedar Point and are worried about Mantis. TTD and Maverick should be the real worries

  6. Correct, I haven't actually been to the park, but just seeing the pics from Robb's PTR showed me plenty. I mean, look at the America area. It looked like a carnival (and not even a good one). You do have 4 fairly good sized coasters, one of which is the only one of its kind. But yeah, advertising. It almost seems like they were going with a SFMM feeling with the advertising. "We're a park for rockers and be ready for an extreme time" is what it seemed they were marketing. But hye, SFMM has turned around, maybe the Hard Rock people will get a clue and get their act together.

Plus, I'm curious how the employee's appearance affects the GP. Reading an article about it, one a employee stated how he loved that he could show of his tattoos and wild hair. I know teens would find it awesome to see a guy like that running Led, but a family (who could ride the ride) might find that a bit... unsettling.

  7. I've only been on Maverick, but I'll tell you my version

First off, by looking at the drop, it reall oesn't look like much at all. I had to squint to see the 95 deg part. But, when you go on it, it's so surprising. I always tell people it feels like when you're sitting on a horse, and it bucks forward. You get thrown into the the restraints and then ripped back into your seat. It is so awesome and has this crazy "Crap, I'm going to flyout of my seat" feeling. But yeah, then you hit the turn and ouch. Those restraints look nice, but they don't really help. The restraints kinda remind me of the Maurer Sohne Xtended coaster rerstraints, but with flimsy shoulder straps attached.

You just gotta experience the drop. Then you'll know exactly how it feels

  8. I find the price increases to be kinda funny. I mean, think about it. This is the most expensive park in SoCal (ticket and pass wise), and yet also gets the fullest. If the families and Locals stopped paying to get into the park, Disney would be forced to lower prices. But hey, GP (and even some enthusiasts) are rather stupid and believe paying $70 for a day, and then spending the entire trip waiting in line for 1 or 2 rides, is great. Granted, there's decent theming in the park, but as someone pointed out earlier, the crowds choke out a lot of the atmosphere. I say protest the ticket rise by not buying a ticket (maybe not going to the park at all).

    But hey, who am I

  9. Ghostrider is the most overhyped coaster I know of (mind you, haven't been to very many parks). It looks nice, and has pretty good queue theming, but the ride is so rickety to be so miserable as to have the "humming voice" effect (go on Mean Streak at Cedar Point and you'll get the same effect). Almost every normal GP I've talked to loves Ghostrider, and perhaps because it is the longest coaster in the park and has the most "airtime" (if can call pain fun). Even before I was an enthusiast, I found this ride to to harsh to enjoy. Overhyped numero uno (for me).

  10. First, yours nuts for even thinking you can make those two parks.

Second, what's you attack plan for SFMM? If you don't hit the park when it opens, X2 and Tatsu lines can be insane. I'd recommend heading to the back and doing Dejavu and Riddler's and make your way forward, going towards Scream and Colossus, then hitting up Goliath before the park really starts to fill in the back. As for Superman, you never know how that line is. If you're really in a time crunch, I'd say skip it. It's a decent ride, but not worth a wait (except if your trying to rest and get out of the hot sun for a few minutes ). Then, all I can say is good luck with Tatsu and X2. Viper you should do ok if the park isn't that crowded.

    Hope that helped.

  11. It just reiterates what was said at the convention by Shapiro.

Yeah, it bugged me that the last "article" in that blog relating to Magic Mountain had Screamscape as its only source. It's like he's just posting the latest buzz and rumors in a more formal setting.

That's why I was really questioning even the validity of the GCI woodie. The only place I've read it is at Screamscape. I'm sure it's a woodie (if rcdb changing the ride type is any indication), but still not convinced of all the details.

  12. First, thanks for taking time to answer all our questions (even though I haven't asked any yet ). I've read through this thread and have already had half my questions eliminated. Here's some questions :

    1. So, you live in Germany? Is that your home, or are you American?

    2. You say you do drawings (I might have to reread the thread). Is it like conceptual stuff? Or more blueprint like?

    3. *drooling* Have you actually met Stengel?

    4. Do they literally just kind of slap a new file on your desk and tell you to draw out something for it? Or is there like a decent meeting to plan out the beginning stages?

  13. The Villain photo makes me happy. Another crap ride that will not be missed.

Yep. Now if only Predator, SOB, J2, GhostRider, Voyage, etc. would join Villain in the coaster afterlife.

OK, out of all of those, I've only been on Villain, Ghostrider and Voyage. If you're going to insist on putting Ghostrider and Voyage in the same category of hell as Villain, then I shall be forced to refer to you, sir, as a nincompoop.

Maybe I caught Ghostrider on a good day. Yes, Voyage is too intense to ride 4,000 times in a row. But I wanted off the Villain before I even got to the lift. It was so bad it made me mad. My teeth ache thinking about it and I had low expectations to begin with.

I actually added Voyage to that list as a joke.

I was wondering. The Voyage is a new Gravity Group coaster. I haven't ridden it, but hey

As for Ghostrider (only one I've done), I would definitely put it up there with Villain. For a steel support strusture, I found Villain to be even more painful than Mean Streak at Cedar Point (which I hated). I was glad they had taken the trick track out before I came.

That is still sad to see this park going, especially since it really did have some potential. But Cedar Fair and the economy, what can you do.
