  1. Probably because it's trimmed to death.
  2. Today's update is from vallyfair. So our plan going in, was to spend a day and a half at vallyfair and then half a day at mall of America. Well...those plans fell thru as on our 2nd day at vallyfair we(me and my daughter) came down with some kind of food poisoning. That being the case, we missed out on mall of America. Anyway, my thoughts on vallyfair... Overall I thought the park was meh. I think part of the issue was that we just came from a bunch of highly themed parks(sfft, sfot, sw,frontier city), and then we get to vallyfair and it just seemed "corporate" and "steril". Don't get me wrong, we still had a good time. The park had very nice landscaping and the staff as fast and friendly(excep for the Mexican place where we believe we got sick from). The workers in the Mexican food place seemed more interested in there cell phones than helping people. We literally stood there for 5 min, and they never even acnolaged(sp) that we were there. Other than that, the ride crews were on top of there game. Another bummer was that all the rides the kids have been riding in other parks were out of the question at this park due to ridiculous height requirements. That was a ruff one to explane to our 2 and 3 yo kids. The rides we really enjoyed were wild thing and steel venom. I really wanted to like high roller, but it was trimmed down way too much. The kids really enjoyed the ball play area, and we had a hard time getting them out of there. A weird observation was the seatbelts on steel venom. They were much longer than wicked twisters at cedarpoint. I gave up in wicked twister because the belt will not reach anymore. I was worried waiting in line for steel venom that this was going to be the case as well. Thankfully is was not, and I even had slack in the belt. Anyway, on to the pictures. Vallyfair! As soon as we entered the park, the kids found out that Moana was playing in the parks theater, so that was our first stop. After the kids got the "your welcome" song out of there system, we hit our first coaster. The high roller is a classic out and back coaster. Station shot Here is the far turnaround Next up was mad mouse I believe this is a arrow coaster. For lunch, we are at chickie and Pete's. This place reminded me a lot of the red garter at cp. After lunch, we hit up renegade. I had high hopes for this coaster, but unfortunately it was a very ruff ride. Next up, was the rumored to be removed coaster. Station shot This coaster is a arrow hybrid coaster. Steel track, wood supports. Think gemini... Right over by Excalibur, is the parks rapids ride. Just pray that you don't get thirsty here. This is one of my favorite classic rides. This park has some really nice landscaping Vallyfair has a unique carousel. The roof of the ride is on rollers, and spins when the ride is going. A closer look. The sun was starting to set on our first day at the park. The newest ride at the park is the star flyer I love star flyers, but always have an uneasy feeling riding them because of the tiny chains holding your seat. Beautiful light package. A few more looks at the star flyer The super cat ride. Anybody have a dust rag? Stay tuned for LOTS more from vallyfair.
  3. Went to the park this past Saturday , mainly to check out all of the shows. I did a mini trip report(mostly focused on the live entertainment). Is this cedarpoints version of the Mardi gras parade? This is actually a real thing? The boys were amazed at dragsters launch New stage in frontier town this year. They have a bluegrass music show. Looking good This show was really good. The sun began to set.... The main midway has looked a lot better at night since they put in all the lighting a few years back. Finally got the chance to see luminosity this year. Is it me, or did they add more lighting in the frontier trail this year? The smoke from the train, and next years new coaster. Even though it's closed, they still light up mean streak. Goodnight...
  4. Yea...thats weird. Hopefully it's an oversight. We liked going on Sundays as well, because you didn't have a 2 hour wait to get into a haunted house.
  5. We found this kinda odd. The hotel we stayed in on our way to vallyfair had a weird(and I'm sure unsanitary) way of drying the bed spreads. Pictures of vallyfair coming tonight.
  6. Has kings island released info on winterfest yet? The one thing I was curious about was the list of rides that will be operating.
  7. They were a ghost town yesterday, even with the park being slammed.
  8. You may also like the bathrooms next to first aid in frontier town.
  9. Yea, I thought that I heard that some ex Disney people helped design the park. Not positive if that's true or not, but seems plausible.
  10. Today's update is from Adventureland in Iowa. This was only my 2nd time visiting this park. Although this visit was kinda a bummer, we still had fun. We only spent about 4 hours in the park due to a rain storm heading in, but that was enough time to do what we wanted. Why a bummer you may ask? Mother nature was messing with us on and off during our time at the park. Plus, the tornado coaster was not in operation either(my favorite coaster in the park). But the monster coaster was a blast. I really enjoy this type of coaster, and it's a great fit for this park and other smaller parks as well. For a minute, I "almost" forgot about the log flume. This park has a big selection of spinning rides, 5 coasters, a water park, and a decent selection of good eats. This park reminds me of of Disneyland. Not for the attractions or a mouse, but for the entrance and main street area. They even have a stage that rises up from the ground(just like in tommarowland). The only thing that left a bad taste in my mouth durring this visit, was that it was in the upper 90's and they were charging people 50 cents for a cup of ice water. There were not too many drinking fountains, and the ones we did find had warm water. I really did not get as many pictures of this park as I wanted to get, as we were rushing thru it to beat the rain storm. I have another report from my last visit with a ton of pictures. So let's look at the pictures shall we? Are we at Disney? Main street U.S.A? Our first stop is the parks newest screen machine....the monster. They did a really good job with this. Rules....and stuff The ski lift goes right thru the coaster. Station A monster and a pig This is a special pig you see.... This is why. Next up was the parks most unique ride....the underground. The pre show consists of some very high tech animatronics that rival Disney. This coaster/dark ride is completely enclosed, so this is really the only shot I could get of the ride. You are here.... This is the dragon coaster. My wife and daughter ride it for the credit. I had already been on it last visit, so I passed on it this time. This is probably the best part of this coaster. Sigh.... The tornado is a great coaster, but it was not ment to be today I guess. The outlaw coaster. It seems to have gotten a bit rougher since last time. Still a decent coaster though. The boys having fun driving the big rigs. They definitely have lots of rides for the kiddos This water ride felt good in the heat of the day. The fam approves of this ride. It looks like when they designed this park, they really wanted to be like the mouse. Does anybody know if this ride ever runs? Last time we were here, it was not running. That's all from Adventureland. Next stop is vallyfair.
  11. The dog show was a lot of fun. I'm not a huge animal person, but still enjoyed it. The dogs that they had were all rescues, and incredibly talented. My next update is going to have to wait till tomorrow. Enjoying a day at America's rollercoast today.
  12. I'm going to try and have the adventureland pictures up today.
  13. I would love to hit up silver dollar city again. It's a great park. Even though we spent 2 days there, we didn't See it all.
  14. Spoken like a Trump supporter. Congrats. You're that guy. --Robb "Please continue to make fun of Trump to get his supporters out of our forum." Alvey
  15. Off to worlds of fun. World's of fun is a cedar fair park that has probably the 2nd best theaming of the chain(right behind knotts). We have been to this park several times and have enjoyed it every time. After 2 exhausting days walking up and down the hills in silver dollar city, we slept in and headed to the park. This only gave us a half day at the park, but we were able to get some well needed rest. I really do love the charm of this park, even though it's starting to disappear with the corporate cedar fair decor of concrete and trash cans. I didn't get as many pictures of the park since we were only there a half day, so some rides and coasters may be missing. During our visit, we were able to get all the major coasters and a few spinning rides as well. We also has time to check out a show thanks to the very light crowds. So far on this trip, we have been extremely lucky as far as crowds go. I'm glad we didn't purchase fast lanes before our trip. Onto some pictures... Here we are...wirlds if fun This was our first time back since the front gate remodel The new gate looks great First coaster was spinning dragons. This is my wife and daughters favorite coaster in the park. It didn't seem to spin as much this visit as it did last. Yes...the park was dead We were able to snag a quick ride on the flume ride. Next up, is my favorite ride in the park. Love this coaster, and they have taken good care of it as it was running great. This ride was broken. Bummer, as it's one of my favorite spinning type rides. I love how cedar fair is bringing back retro gear. Here are a few examples of what they had. One last look This is new this year It's a huss condor. The other new ride. Another great huss ride. Can't remember the name of this show, but it was really good. Patriot is the parks inverted coaster. Lift hill Station shot Wind seeker(or whatever it's called here) was not running today. This is a great idea. I believe Disney sells these as well. Mamba! It seemed to be running better than last time, but the trims pretty much kill any hope of good airtime. Station shot Boomerang was having a bad day. It rolled back between the loop and back spike. This is the second chance rotor of the trip. I love how all the various coasters dinners have a picture of blue streak. And mean streak Cyclone Sam's is a unique ride. Cool looking plant. Anybody know what this is? The water rides were quite popular today, as it was about 95 degrees out. Flying Dutchman. From a distance, you can see whereboomerang rolled back. I think it just missed the catch car. That's it from worlds of fun, where it was so hot people were swimming in the fountain just to stay cool. Our next park is adventureland. Stay tuned!
  16. Yea, it was odd. Do they typically only run 1 train or was it just a weird day? They only run one train on days that it is *dead.* Most of the time they run two trains. And sometimes if it gets more crowded during the day they will add a second train to the track. They definitely could have used a 2nd train on thunderation and powder keg. World's of fun pictures will be posted tinight.
  17. Yea, it was odd. Do they typically only run 1 train or was it just a weird day?
  18. EDIT: ^ ya beat me to it. Here's the info anyway for those who doesn't want to click the link. Indeed there was. There used to be a premier water coaster called Buzzsaw Falls in the spot where powder keg is today. It only lasted from 1999 to 2003 and I believe it closed due to maintenance issues. A lot of Buzzsaw Falls was reused for Powder Keg from the crashed car on the roof all the way down to the lift hill on Powder Keg (and the big curve before that) Here's a model: Interesting...thank you. By the way, I have my photo trip report of silver dollar city up now. Check it out here... http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=75041&start=80
  19. Hey now....my fanny pack has saved many items from getting lost. Everybody is always asking me to hold onto there items in my pack. I'm married and have 3 kids, so not exactly cruising for chicks...lol Anyways, onto the rest of our silver dollar city pictures. Let's start out this update with my new #1 coaster It kicked serious ass from beginning to end. Just take it in.... Station shot. My kind of line. Killer ride Station decor Entrance to bliss The grand exposition area has lots of rides for the kids and adults to ride together Where have I seen this ride before? The kids got to milk a cow Walking up and down the hills of the park all day, we worked up quite an appetite. We decided on the mine restaurant. It's an all you can eat buffet, but it's located in a mine. This was a really cool restaurant The food was o-k. We made sure to save room for the famous cinniman bread. As you can see, I couldn't even get a picture of it before it got destroyed I really wanted to try one of these, but was so full that it will have to wait till next trip. Our last coaster was thunderstorm. It's a mine train coaster. A rather fun one at that. This is whay happens when you only run 1 train. At the exit of thunderation, they had this posted on the fence. So of course I had to look. I spy a new coaster station There was lots of work going on. One last look at the new coaster station If you want to cool down, the American plunge was the place to be. The kids had a blast in the ball pit area. The train ride takes you around the park and even gets held up along the way. A few more random shots from around the park. Family fun That's it from silver dollar city. The next update will be from worlds of fun.
  20. Hotels.com has a bunch of rooms for under $100 for your dates. Use the filter to set the price range you want. Honestly though, anything aroun $80 this time of year is probably going to be a questionable establishment.
  21. Did there used to be a water ride where powder keg now sits? I thought I saw what looked like an old waterway next to the turn into powderkegs station.
  22. We have stayed at that motel 6 several times and never had any issues. But thanks to people like you letting the secret out, the rates have climbed quite a bit. This motel 6 even has an indoor pool and hot tub. They don't serve breakfast(as no motel 6 does), but there is a Mc donalds and a few other fast food places near by. In all honesty though, when we priced it a few weeks ago, it was $100 a night. For $20 more, we got a better hotel that also included a breakfast buffet. That makes a huge difference when a family of 5 saves on having to buy breakfast that could top $50 or more in itself.
  23. Yea, I took the kids on a few rides in that area. Off the top of my head, I believe I took them on the teacups and the pirate boats. I'll have a few pictures of them coming up.
