  1. I got a ride in on Harley Quinn shortly after a breakdown on Tuesday afternoon, but just after I rode it went down for what ended up being the rest of the night. Not sure what was up. They tested it a few times before giving up. Also noticed a ladder underneath Crime Wave so something might be up with that too.
  2. I was going to mention that it would only be four close airtime hills, but then if you throw in the Brett Hull "No goal" game in the Sabres/Stars Stanley Cup Finals, then you would get five "close to airtime hills." Seriously, this is a great fit for this park and city. I'm on the "Despise the Steelers" bandwagon as well, but it will draw in TONS of fans not only from the city, but from around the country. I just wonder how long Jerruh Jones will take to want a Cowboys themed land at SFOT, or Robert Kraft wanting Tom Brady Land at SFNE? Okay, I think that I just threw up in my mouth a little... Back in the Snyder days, when SFNE tore down the Batman Stunt Show they put in a mini football field with a.......Redskins logo. I get that he owns the Skins but come on...
  3. Glad to hear that...booked a room there in August. I usually tend to radiate towards Super 8's if I'm looking for a quick overnight stop and haven't struck out as often there as I have at Econolodges or Motel 6's. Another good Super 8 is the one up the street from your favorite now defunct park in Altoona.
  4. The last few times I've been to Hershey have all been weekends and it works great. Buy a ticket for Sunday and you have 3 1/2 hours for preview Saturday. Not to mention the last couple times I've been they've kept rides near the center open an extra 30+ mins (including Fahrenheit) so that's even more of a bonus. I find the crowds to be surprisingly manageable on Saturday nights there. Skyrush will have a big line but LR, Wildcat, SDL all very short lines and even Storm Runner was a walk on last time I was there.
  5. Went to the park for a few hours this afternoon. Mild temperatures and the first dry weekend in quite some time brought in a large crowd. Parked 2/3rds of the way back in lot 3 at 2pm. Only running 2 trams for a parking lot that was nearly 100% full was causing a decent sized line to build up so walked to the park (only 1 tram went past while I was walking). 3 more were sitting dormant off to the side. Hope they start using them all as we get into the summer. Started off trying to find a place that had a decently short line for lunch. Rivi's was mobbed, Johnny Rocket's was out the door, so settled for Fast Eddies which didn't have a huge line but only 1 register working and not very quickly. South End/Rockville was a sea of people heading to the waterpark and Harley Quinn so decided to head to the North End to start. 30 minute wait each for Skyscreamer and Wicked Cyclone. Forget which train I rode in but the back car was very loud today. Felt like it was subtly scrubbing a little bit of speed leading to some epic hang time on the last zero g roll. Headed back south as Queue Times was showing only a 25 minute wait for Harley Quinn but when I got there the queue was full and based on the reports I've read so far about slow load times had to imagine the wait was a lot more than 25 minutes. Got a ride on the Joker while I was in the area, just a 5 minute wait and a crazy first half of the ride but modest 2nd half with no flipping. Went for Superman next which had what may have been the shortest line in the entire park. Barely out of the station, so got 2 rides (back and 2nd row) in a matter of 20 minutes. First time on it this year, definitely getting more bumpy in its old age but still a fantastic ride. Headed out after that. First rides on Harley Quinn will have to wait for another day, but looks fantastic in action.
  6. Unfortunately this cold is just unprecedented. I've never seen a stretch of single digit temps last this long here midwinter nevermind in December. Im sure the park was ready for a frigid day or two but nothing like this ever lasts for weeks like this around here. Bummed I never made it out for Christmas as I really wanted to see it. Based on the reports of good crowds early on I'm sure it'll absolutely be back next year and maybe we'll have temps back to average (or maybe even 70 on Christmas like 2 years ago lol).
  7. They should double down on this and allow ice skating on the wave pool
  8. Is there room at Spiders old pad to move the teacups over there? It's pretty much been unused/a smaller smoking area.
  9. Reminds me of being at CP about 10 years ago in line for TTD. They have the split station...I was waiting for the front row for the first train. Instead of splitting exit groups between the two stations they kept sending people to the first station. They held the front row 3 times while I was in line for it and the ride ended up going down for 2 hours when I was 2 trains away from boarding. I sat there and waited but it put a very sour taste in my mouth that I would've made it before the breakdown otherwise, and likely also would've made it if they split groups between the two stations. When I was at Superman Sunday the only exit group I saw come up while I was in the station got put in the middle of the train.
  10. Yeah pretty sure the only place I heard of it was on their FB page. I feel like a lot of people in the park don't even notice it's going on.
  11. Anyone else check out the food and brew festival? Pretty good deals by six flags standards and some of the food is actually pretty good. Huge beer variety although some of the kegs are getting warm today.
  12. Anyone know what this "Goliath announcement" in 2 weeks is about? Tearing down Goliath and putting in a Log Flume maybe? Lol
  13. I got to the park at about 8pm Saturday...started off with comet but noted that skyrush was sending one of its trains out empty every time and loading the other one. I went to ride it next and they had removed one train. The train they were running had over a quarter of the seats roped off in random spots and the ride ops were having trouble putting the right amount of people in each row. The line only had 3 switchbacks filled but still took over 45 minutes due to running with only one partially filled train. Didn't go back into that area Sunday so don't know what happened beyond that.
  14. That picture is the #1 reason of many why I decided not to get a season pass this year for the first time in 15 years. That station was fine the way it was since 2000, why change it? Two of the best steel coasters in the world are within an hour of me yet the poor management and choices of the park have made me hate going there so much that it's not even worth sucking it up to ride them anymore. I'm looking forward to visiting 6 different parks in PA this summer as well as hopefully getting back to Lake Compounce, but other than maybe a trip during frightfest, I'm done putting up with their crap.
  15. Best case scenario is MF style headrests. Worst case would be TTD style which really aren't all that different from the old Bizarro headrests.
  16. It still blows my mind that a coaster can be voted the #1 steel coaster in the world for three straight years and for some reason the park decided to change it. I'm holding out hope that the new trains will be similar to the old ones, but with MA banning T-bar restraints hopefully they can find a good alternative.
  17. They could have been cleaning it. Maybe someone pissed all over it or something. It was missing Wednesday as well. Second to last row, left side. Don't think I've ever seen an operational roller coaster train missing an entire seat before, especially with the rest of the row still functional.
  18. You must be new to this whole "Six Flags New England" thing. I'm glad you enjoyed your day at the 5th friendliest park in the world. I've been going to Riverside since I was 3 so most thing that go on there don't shock me. But every year I find myself scratching my head more and more with some of the things they do, especially in the ride ops department. The last couple years I've only gone two or three times all year because I just can't take it anymore. Wicked Cyclone has gotten me back to the park a lot this year so far, but it's just not fun when they make you feel like an elementary school student the entire time you're there. I went on Houdini all alone today and the ride op still stood there in front of me and yelled the whole boarding spiel like the entire room was full. I wish I could move Knoebels 4 hours east.
  19. If you're expecting El Toro ejector you'll be underwhelmed. The big thing is that this has extreme but short pops of ejector all over the place while El Toro has 5 or 6 long drawn out hills with great ejector. A couple of the hills on Wicked Cyclone give you more extreme pops of ejector than the Rolling Thunder hill on El Toro, but the hills are so small that by the time you realize what hit you, you're into the next turn. I've ridden Wicked Cyclone about 10 times over 3 visits now and it's a great ride with perhaps the most relentless layout I've ever seen on a coaster, but I still find Bizarro, El Toro, and Skyrush to be superior by quite a bit. It's very much worth traveling for, especially with another top coaster a couple hundred yards away that really completes the full package. If you're staying for the whole day you'll get the more ejector filled rides late in the afternoon if that helps at all.
  20. I was at the park all day today. Wicked Cyclone had lines up to 30 mins around 2:00, but nothing much otherwise. Bizarro was around 20 minutes early but also died down. Lots of buses in the lot and few cars, so when the school groups left at 4 the place was dead. Batman, Mind Eraser, Gauntlet, Flashback, and Goliath all walkons most of the day. Thunderbolt 10 mins early but also died down. Two trains running on all the usuals. Blue train in the back car has quite the wheel vibration on Wicked Cyclone. The orange train seemed to be running slower than the blue train to the naked eye, especially through the second half. Ride was running nicely though. Early ops were stapling the hell out of people... one lady was nearly jumping in order to push as hard as she could. Afternoon ops were much better in that category, not to mention faster with loading in general. Got really irritated with an op on Bizarro because there were three hats in the drink holder in the station and he walked up and down the station for two minutes trying to find who the hats belonged to rather than just letting it go. No reason to hold up a train from dispatching just because you're on a power trip. Also hate that on almost every coaster running half empty, they force you to fill the front of the train rather than going to the empty back seats. I'm not sure why it matters so much to them when each train is half empty...I guess it it's just because Six Flags. EC Zenith...most schools are in session through the third week of the month because of all the snow days this past winter, so you should have a good day on the 11th! Cyclone does have pretty restrictive restraints, but not quite to the point of Bizarro so if you can fit on that, you'll be fine on Cyclone. There's a test seat at the entrance as well if you're unsure.
  21. Cyclone is a walk on right now...some trains going out half empty! If you're on the fence come on down!
  22. Got down to the park for a couple hours after work yesterday. Got two rides on cyclone. Unfortunately I was shooed to the middle on both rides. Would love to get a back seat ride to really try to compare it to el toro, skyrush, and bizarro. But this rode absolutely delivers from start to finish. There isn't a single second of let-up after it leaves the lift. Incredible. I also went to check out Goliath after seeing the reviews of a smoother ride. I was very disappointed to find it wasn't really all that much better. It's not quite as bad as last year but still not even close to the old trains. Still the only coaster I've ever been on that's hurt my back and it still was bad enough last night to do so.
  23. No "other" option to vote for, but I'm a Meteorology major.
  24. Today was my first ever opening day. Left home around 8:40, hit the gas station, and sailed smoothly for a 9:50 arrival. As I headed west on the Pike, the temp rose to about 65, then fell to 55 as I hit Springfield which had the skyscrapers shrouded in fog. Couldn't even see down the river but by the time I got to SFNE the sun was out. Watched the opening celebration and then headed straight for Superman. Guess what... IT OPENED ON TIME!! I got the first public ride of 2008 in the back. After getting the 3rd public ride in the 2nd row, I headed back up and spent the next 2.5 hours going south to north. Hit Scream, Thunderbolt, Batman twice, Coldstone for a shake, Cyclone twice, Catapult, Time Warp, Pandemonium, Flashback, Houdini, and Tomahawk all by about 12:30. All the waits were short to none in the morning. The temps warmed to almost 80 and it was sunny and humid. Too summer-like, I like my cool April days. I guess thats what an 80% chance of heavy rain and 55-60 degrees is supposed to mean. Hit Superman twice more, back and 2nd row, which had a 15 minute wait around 1:00 and got caught up in one of many breakdowns today. Mind Eraser also had its fair share of problems. Caught a great ride on Twister which had 4 consecutive flips. Stopped in the Wii building and played a few strings of bowling. Also started getting a bad headache at that point. Finished the day off with Splashwater Falls, Mind Eraser (that helped a lot with the headache), Crime Wave, and Batman before having a bite to eat at Johnny Rockets. The cheeseburger I had there was terrible... guess I'll stick to Fast Eddie's when I want a burger. Headed out at that point as I felt like crap and the Red Sox were on. Opening Day notes: - DC is blocked off between the Wiggles World stairs and Johnny Rockets for Dark Knight construction, so obviously Catwoman's Whip will be closed for a couple months. - Houdini's line doesn't go into the building where the line maze used to be anymore, now you just go through a door that goes right into the initial hallway of the ride. - They took the big TV out of Big Bens. - Cyclone needs oil. Badly. - Nightwing and Shipwreck Falls were closed. - 2 trains on Batman and Mind Eraser, 1 on the rest. - Double Trouble's spot is now occupied by a basketball game and the annoying hammer game that used to be where the new food stand is now. - There's a new park exit to the right of the old one. I don't remember much else, but it was a good day in the park until I started feeling like crap. Did anyone see me? I had an Ortiz jersey on. Anyway, it is quite weird thinking 6 days ago I was skiing in the same state in below freezing temperatures. 6 days later, I'm in an amusement park and its 80 degrees. April in New England. Ride Count: Superman - 4 Batman - 3 Cyclone - 2 Scream - 1 Thunderbolt - 1 Catapult - 1 Time Warp - 1 Pandemonium - 1 Flashback - 1 Houdini - 1 Tomahawk - 1 Twister - 1 Mind Eraser - 1 Crime Wave - 1 Total: 20
  25. I ski. I've been skiing for 9 years now and get about 30-40 days a year. I've been to many of Vermont's resorts as well as a few in NH and a few here in MA. Unfortunately I haven't been out west yet. My favorite 3 resorts in the east are Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, and Stowe.
