Westcoaster Update - 05/26/2006 - Knott's Berry Farm and The Disneyland Resort So here's an update... delayed about a week thanks to a very busy schedule at work and a hectic personal life that involved the loss of a family member last week. Needless to say, I am done with the month of May. But here's a peek... everything else is found by following the link above. Here's one for the ladies... Pacific Spin's sphincter The swiss can engineer like a son of a b*tch... but they can't spell for sh*t. Disney's own border fence is going up nicely... Enjoy the update!!

I am officially a dork. Here's my facts... 1. I am deathly afraid of heights 2. Contrary to popular belief, I am not a duck of any sort 3. I drink 2 diet cokes a day 4. I ride 50-100 miles a week currently on the bike... in another few months I hope to be back up to 150-250 and racing in some smaller races by next season. 5. I love to make my own pizzas from scratch (healthier that way, less fat, no sugars... just like I like)

Westcoaster Update ThreadJim Disney replied to Jim Disney's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Okay, so I'm not insane... as for the Busch Gardens Tampa/Africa thing... have they actually changed the name of the park down there yet? I saw on Screamscape that the new brochures for the park clearly say Busch Gardens Africa, but their website still says Busch Gardens Tampa Bay... so I was unsure of what to post.

Westcoaster Update ThreadJim Disney replied to Jim Disney's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! I mean... I'm just basing it off my own experiences. I'm sure there are worse rides in the world. But it was pretty bad when we rode it. I guess for us it was just bland and not that fun. But thanks for the compliments. I had to throw some Manbearpig references in there... I couldn't resist really. Glad ya'll enjoyed it!

Joey + Wayne Newton = Love... much like Wes + Gary Sinise = Love Westcoaster Update - 04/24/2006 - Knott's Berry Farm, Soak City and The Disneyland Resort Lots of stuff going on around the local parks lately. One of the things I found interesting was that after all the hype, they still haven't moved rock #1 over at the Pointe Anaheim project. Hopefully it'll still happen some day!

NEW PARK DISNEY IN EUROPEJim Disney replied to IntelInside's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Doubt it'll ever happen. Disney courted Spain during the planning stages for Euro Disneyland only to force France's hand and get the consessions they wanted out of them. It was only a bargaining tactic. As for this idea... I'm not sure I think it's even a good one. I mean... Disney has talked for a long time with different countries (Singapore for instance) about building parks. But most never happen. Plus, with this not even being a park per se... well, I dunno if I buy it.

Westcoaster Update - 04/19/2006 - Knott's Berry Farm, Soak City Palm Springs, and The Disneyland Resort Death of free advertising... Nipples? Unfinished slide in Buena Park... Finished in Palm Springs So yeah... the guest service at Knott's Berry Farm sucked... but there are good things happening there too... hope you enjoy the update! Westcoaster Update - 04/06/2006Jim Disney replied to Jim Disney's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Thanks for the kind words, ya'll! I'll try to make sure our updates stay artist friendly and don't become... old and stupid. As for the weather + crowds thing... I mean. Generally, if rain starts falling... people just don't end up going to the parks. Regardless of where you're at (Disney, Universal, That dude's mom's house)... wait, what? So I dunno... it's kind of a crap shoot when it comes to the crowds. But even the talk of rain and a few threatening clouds might keep some of the crowds away. But do also remember that this is technically Spring Break, and you're going on a Saturday. So it could end up still being busy anyways... who knows.

Westcoaster Update - 04/06/2006Jim Disney replied to Jim Disney's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! ^Right... there'll be two. Like I said in the update... while I find The Fast and The Furious to be completely retarded, this could end up being a really cool addition to the tram tour if they pull it off right... so we'll see...
-
Westcoaster Update - 04/06/2006 - Universal Studios Hollywood... now 20% more artist friendly So here's a new update... it's been busy lately, huh? Anyways... so here's the update from Universal Studios Hollywood. They've been busy in City Walk building the SkyVenture indoor skydiving location and a new shop called Upstart Crow. We've got photos of that as well as photos of a new large Kuka arm that looks to be used in the new Fast and The Furious tram tour "show" (we have photos of where it'll go on the tour as well). And some fun photos from the VIP Tram Tour... the Prop Warehouse, Sound Stages and stuff like that! Enjoy!!

Yeah... I mean, here's the thing. DCA's ride is good. Good drop profile... decent show... but there's just too much that is akward with it. If Florida's ride had never been built, DCA's Tower wouldn't get the negative attention that it gets now. But it really is a case of building a half-assed ride after you've hit a home run previously with the Florida Tower. The issue is this. DCA's Tower has no creepy/cool ambiance to it. It's just there. There's no build up... there's no surrounding area to really reinforce that hey... this is an old beat up building. Even inside... it's too bright and "new". Whereas in Florida... it's dark... and just looks like it's been beat to all sh*t. The libraries... I prefer DCA's. The added effect of the timed strobe in the window to match the lightning on the TV is just subtle and great. After that... the boiler rooms... NO COMPARISON! Florida - Dark, creepy... it LOOKS like a boiler room. California - "Did I just step into Toon Town?" Sure it's nice... but I've never seen boilers that were lit in pinks, blues and purples. The split level works... but the thing is... well... I'm jumping ahead of myself. Next up would be the loading areas... obviously Florida wins... the random motors that actually spark and fire up when the elevator's coming down... it's not lit like Roger Rabbit's Car-Toon Spin... then... when the doors open! Oh my god... an elevator. DCA... a hallway. Now... DCA *COULD'VE* made more sense if they'd gone with the idea of what they'd done in Tokyo with the sliding wall revealing the "hidden passageway" to a secret elevator. THAT would make sense. But no... you get two sets of elevator doors. RE-TAR-DED! I used to try and excuse it away... but seriously... it's just retarded. The shows... yeah. DCA's show is different... but WDW's just has more to it... it makes more sense. And the random drop profiles (which DCA has now pushed back until late 2006-early 2007 due to the popularity of Monsters Inc) just make it that much better. I still like DCA's tower. But it's just not nearly as good as WDW's on SOOOOOO many levels. Which is sad... and very frustrating. But what're ya gonna do? Either way... WDW and DCA's towers will both be crapped on by TDS' tower when it opens later this year. The queue, pre-show, storage warehouse and ride show is just awesome! Oh well... that's just my $0.02...
