  1. I think we know what two of the three might be (hotel and safari renovation), but the question is what the third will be. I'm saying a new flat ride. While a coaster would be good, I don't think they're ready for another one just yet.
  2. 1Agreed, but SFGadv's theming does have a big flaw. They have one part of Golden Kingdom seperate from the rest of the area having you to walk out to the Boardwalk and around to access the rest of it ever since they closed that path. As for SFA, it starts out being nicely detailed on Main Street, but the farther back you get, it sucks more and more. The western area was nice, but the concrete paths are crumbling, the Southwest area looks rundown, abandoned, and uncared for, but Gotham City (if you could call it that) is the worst. Should call it Gotham Field instead. The only theming in that area is the food court and station buildings, the rest is grass and field. EDIT: Rolling Thunder does still kind of fit the Del Carnival theme though since the west and Mexico were both kind of close to each other back then.
  3. Just to forewarn you but there is going to be a big concert on Saturday in the Stadium. On top of this will be the typical weekend crowds as well. Last Saturday was packed and there was a concert so I recommend getting the evening Fast Track pass before they sell out. It's $25 for one ride on five of the coasters in the park.
  4. Having never been to Kings Dominion before and Busch Gardens Williamsburg since 1995, I knew I had to sign up for East Coast Bash. Since it is on the way home, Six Flags America was a extra stop on the way home that I kind of wish I didn't make (more on that later). ~ After driving to Baltimore and carpooling with Matt, we got to the Country Inn & Suites across from KD and stayed the night. The place had to be one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in even though the breakfast was kind of bland. After stopping at Burger King for some Coke Freestyle, we checked into the event and headed for Volcano first. Volcano: While the launches weren’t too forceful, I did enjoy the high-speed turn, inversion going out the top of the volcano and in-line twists. Having the only other Cedar Fair I've been to was Dorney, I was impressed by the detail in theming in the queue, but then again that was Paramount's doing. 8/10 Intimidator 305: This was the coaster that was the highlight for me. Having ridden Skyrush over 50 times, I was really interested in how it would stack up. Where Skyrush is more of an airtime beast, I-305 was the exact opposite by focusing on positive-g's and sudden direction changes. It did have a decent airtime hill, but it wasn't ejector air. One of the complaints I have heard is about the trim in the middle of the course slowing down the train a good bit. Personally I feel it's needed because that last sudden direction-change was intense as so as it was. If it wasn't there, it would be very painful there. While it did meet my expectations, it didn't end up being the best coaster on the trip. 9/10 After taking several laps on each coaster, the Morning ERT was over and it was time to move into the rest of the park. The next credit for me was Ghoster Coaster. Ghoster Coaster: I can be very critical with coasters that have PTC's on them. For not having a seat divider and car-like seatbelts, Ghoster Coaster was great even though it was a "kiddie coaster". It had a few great pops of airtime and was mostly smooth. I just wish the line was shorter so I could take more laps on it. 7.5/10 Next we took a practice lap on Boo Blasters before the competition. My only complaint about this ride is the fact that the scoring system uses such a low point scoring system. Having been raised on Reese's Extreme Cup Challenge, I loved the fact that you could score up to 100,000 or 200,000 points. On these, 16,000 is the higher score. The detail to the ride was pretty good, but you could still make out the old Scooby Doo theming spots in the queue on where they were. After the competition I took a lap on Backlot Stunt Coaster. Backlot Stunt Coaster: The layout was pretty good with some airtime coming out of the last tunnel, but all the theming was off making the ride feel kind of boring and unfulfilling. The boring looking trains didn't help either. 5/10 Anaconda: Riding Anaconda kind of made me flashback to riding Great American Scream Machine in it's final year and it made me feel nostalgic a little. I was expecting it to be bad, but it turned out it didn't hurt much (just the corkscrews). I was really worried about the figure-8 though. 5/10 Avalanche I was really excited for this one having never ridden a bobsled coaster before. This was a pretty good starter coaster with a good tame layout and a touch of thrill for the veteran coaster riders. Though-out the layout I kind of thought it being weird that my feet could feel the floor and how much the car would flex and bend. I though the transfer track elevator system looked cool. 6/10 That's it for this section. I'm going to be a little busy over the next few days, but I'm going to try to get the rest up. Now on to the photos! The view from the hotel room. Nothing like waking up the next morning to a view of WindSeeker getting it's morning inspections done. I'm guessing that it's law in the book of KD trip reports that you must include a photo of this, so here you go. Kind of looks like Volcano is erupting a little. Hello Skyrush's older sister. Very basic station. The lift looked slower than Skyrush's for some reason. Weeee.... Looks like I-305 makes you posessed by the end of your ride. Turns out that KD doesn't open all their rides at opening. Sally did a good job on this ride. I wouldn't call this a kiddie coaster, but hey, that's just me. Here is some Dominator porn until I get into the awesomeness of this coaster later. I love how the track goes over the exit plaza because you can get some great shots of the trains going by. Much more coming up soon!
  5. Wow, Ironically a few friends and me were there the day before and commented on seeing a bird flying close to Ka's tower. We all said, "Hopefully a train isn't going by when they fly past".
  6. I'm going back up tomorrow and I'm not even out of the fudge that I bought at Stony Gables a week and a half ago. I got some Blueberry Cheesecake flavored fudge and i am seriously am thinking about getting a pound of it before I leave. Had Tri-taters last week, so maybe I should go for some Alligator Bites or waffles and ice cream?
  7. Best advice on what to hit and in order is this: 1. Fahrenheit: First or last rows are the best with the front giving you a great view of the track ahead of you and the back giving you hangtime going down the first drop. 2.Lightning Racer: Both coasters more/less perform the same way, but get on them both. Front row is a recommended seat, but the back does produce some airtime or both sides. Little to no wait makes it a good ride to hit on those busy days. 3. Wildcat: The front is the most comfortable. 4. Wild Mouse: any seat. 5. Storm Runner: Go for the front, but the back rows provide a great ride as well. 6. Sidewinder: Front or back rows. 7. Trailblazer: any row. 8. Great Bear: Front row (if line isn't too long), but back row does provide an intense ride. 9. Sooperdooperlooper: back row for some floater airtime going into the final helix, but front is good as well. 10. Skyrush: Front row on the edge seats and middle seats provide a great ride, but if you want the extra pop of airtime on the first drop, try the last row. 11. Comet: last row is pretty good. 12. Roller Soaker: if you plan on riding it, do it about an hour before the Boardwalk closes at 8pm.
  8. Giant would be your best bet. There is one as you are entering Hershey on Cocoa Ave. (Rt. 743) a block up from Rt. 322. There is also a Giant as you are entering Hershey from Rt. 39 near the Antique Auto Museum.
  9. Not gonna lie, that photo is pretty humorous. But I agree with Andrewoplis, Grizzly isn't really painful at all, just boring. But the GP loves that thing, which means it makes complete sense to keep the Grizzly. My big wish for the ride is new trains, maybe some PTCs or something. I'm not a fan of the Morgans at all. Don't you mean GCI's? PTCs would just tear the track apart I believe. Their 3-seater trains are good for classic coasters, but when it comes to new twistier and faster ones, they seem to love to roughen up the ride experience.
  10. Stopped by on Saturday and it looked exactly the same from the video update. The old boneyard that had tons of wood, parts and old trains from the ride has been completely cleaned up. Only some new wood, job trailors and a pizza box are in this area now. By the way, I think the 3rd row on the Phoenix is starting to lose a little bit of it's magic touch. I found the 1st and 2nd rows to be much smoother and more airtime-filled. The first drop and hill felt butter-smooth. Got some of the best rides I've ever had on Twister as well.
  11. In this episode of Flying Turns: The Saga, the transfer track has been removed. At least it's progress but whether if it's good or bad, it's hard to tell.
  12. Hersheypark: -Boardwalk paths 9pm to closing: Hardly anyone uses them after the water rides close and they are really relaxing to walk on to listen to the beach-themed music and take a shortcut over to Lightning Racer. -New Skyrush Path Once the rush of people at opening to get to Skyrush, this path is usually empty and it is fun to watch the riders. Dorney Park: -Steel Force/ Thunderhawk path: Shaded and can be quiet at times. Six Flags Great Adventure: -Best of the West/ Log Jammer path: Just noticed this path a few days ago and while it is kind of pointless, it does look relaxing. It goes under a portion of the back porch for the restaurant. Knoebels: Americana: At night, I just love walking back this way. It is really quiet and feels like you are the only one there.
  13. I am planning on going to the park next Monday and the Sunday after that. How do you think crowds would be and would Flash Passes be needed?
  14. If you guys haven't heard yet from on the Project 2012 page, the spin bins are slowly being replaced with regular bag-drops. The way they are laid out are that there are a series of compartments on the top of the drops and the front (facing the trains), have two large spaces for bookbags and large items. Right now only the first and second rows have them.
  15. More info and a video has been added to the story above, which includes video of them lowering the train back into the station.
  16. http://www.wfmz.com/news/news-regional-lehighvalley/Riders-stuck-on-Dorney-Park-roller-coaster-for-90-minutes/-/132502/14665790/-/dvd1x8z/-/index.html?bmr=y Even though it moved more than 3,000 miles, Invertigo still loves to strand it's riders. At least it wasn't for several hours!
  17. Saturdays are the busiest days of the week, but close second can be Fridays when school is in session. Certain holidays aren't too bad. I know it wasn't bad on Labor Day last year. It's best to go earlier or middle in the week. The park does offer a program called the Preview plan. How this works is that you purchase your ticket for the next day at the park around 3 to 4 hours before closing and you can spend the rest of the evening in the park for free. http://www.hersheypark.com/tickets/index.php
  18. For Skyrush, I find that people head straight for it earlier in the day and the lines dramatically die down in the late afternoon into the evening. As for Fahrenheit, the shortest line is about an hour or so before the park closes. When I was there the other day, it was an hour left until closing and the line was only down the stairs to the station.
  19. That one doesn't, but the one next to Red Robin next to the park does.
  20. New entrance photo from Brian Maxwell from the Project 2012 Facebook group with the main Looper entrance. EDIT: Here's a BIG Skyrush sign! Looks like it's going on the rear of the station. This photo was by the people of the Hershey Lodge Facebook group:
  21. ...and RD rejoices. lol Taken by Brian Maxwell from the Project 2012 Facebook group.
  22. I'm curious, where are they? I trust that any trims they put on the ride won't ruin it (they'd have to trim a LOT of speed off to do that), but if they're looking to possibly trim the top speed down that would require them to be on the first drop. Also, if they're looking to trim the top speed down, it seems like a slower lift rather than a set of trims would be a very simple solution. They are located at the following locations and are mounted on brackets. The are less than half the length of the bars. I didn't have my camera along to take a photo, but there are pictures of the brackets:
  23. Here's a post from my friend Kirk on the Project 2012 Facebook group: When he means trim, I took a walk along Park Blvd this evening and there are 3 trims on the ride that are less than a foot long in length. Before anyone gets worried, they do not look like they will ruin the ride (remember, according to the info above, it's pulling -2.0g's). In short, this is looking like a perfect storm of being a great coaster!
  24. Correct. It is open Memorial Day to Labor Day with the Boardwalk and goes by the Boardwalk hours.
  25. Here's a new testing video and construction update. 11 more days! http://keystonethrills.wordpress.com/2012/05/14/hersheypark-skyrush-construction-update-113-5-11-and-5-12-12/
