  1. BUMP I went to Opening Day of Playland a few weeks ago now and I am thankful it was overcast and eventually started raining later in the day because I got on to Atmosfear 6 times and I didn't even need to use my Exit Ride Pass a single time to get on to it anyway so far it isn't an upcharge ride, but that might change during PNE, I doubt it though because it seems to have lost some of its popularity since last year, it might be better as the season progresses, I might be going down there on May 19th, if anyone is interested in coming let me know, I'll be wearing my Paint With Passion And Purpose shirt and sitting on the Atmosfear benches for most of the day getting some pictures of the ride. Also I've got an iFly Backpack, let me know if any of you would want to meet up, I want to use my Seasons Pass as much as I can. Oh I also forgot to mention that I'll be wearing Khaki Pants and something like these shoes http://etnies.com/shop/fader-15-rockstar/black-yellow-grey/alt1/ only they'll have yellow laces instead of black laces, so they'll be easy to see. Hope to see some of you out there, oh and I'm most likely going to be the only fat guy at the park EDIT: I also got my first time lapse video this year after many years of being lazy and not wanting to make one, and it's up on Youtube now, it's an Atmosfear time lapse, now I did something strange to the video, I'm hoping one of you will be able to catch it, it happens before the POV, so you'll know what to look for, hopefully. EDIT2: I really need to start getting better sleep at night
  2. Me and a friend are going to be doing this Fundraiser for the Make A Wish and Give Kids The World Foundations this summer, we've already planned we're going to be doing a Magic Show at my local Coffee Shop for some pledges but we're looking for some people who could possibly help us out with the Coaster Marathon we're hoping to do on July 11th at Playland in Vancouver, BC, Canada. At this time we've got 5 definite people coming but we're trying to get a full train on Coaster, which is 16 people, so we're looking for 11 more people to help us out, we're talking to Playland to see if we can get the Coaster closed down just for us for 3 hours and to also have a moment of silence for the people they've lost due to various complications. We'd be really grateful if anyone can help us out with the Coaster Marathon, the more people we've got, the better chances we've got of getting some media coverage. Please reply to this and let me know if any of you can help out with this Fundraiser for these amazing Foundations. Sincerely, KingOfNynex2003
  3. that's good, I was kind of worried there because I love that Pirate Ship, it's one of the best flat rides in the park.
  4. You noticed that too huh? It really shouldn't affect that ride because of the fact that by the time Atmosfear starts actually spinning they're already above the height of the Pirate Ship.
  5. That is so funny, I actually was sitting right behind you when you were on the bleachers at Atmosfear, I actually got onto it 3 times today, I got there around noonish as well and left at 3pm.
  6. Thanks Nrthwnd, I actually went this afternoon and saw a few TPR Bags-O-Crap there and a couple t-shirts, I think I might've seen you there, did you go this afternoon?
  7. Do you think if I can fit onto the Wave Swinger I could get onto this one Nrthwnd?
  8. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhfnXIIHUG8 I found this while looking through Youtube, it looks pretty good but I'm not sure if I'd get onto it or not, I can easily get onto the Wave Swinger but I'm not sure if I'd get onto this one, here's my video of the Wave Swinger what do you think? Think these are about the same sized seats as the Star Flyer?
  9. I didn't think so but knowing Playland and how much they don't care about how they run their rides I thought they would've done it, but at least they won't because I do kind of want to go onto this ride and see if it's any good or not, course after it was a resounding failure during PNE I'm just hoping that it won't become a paper weight for years to come, I'm sure with all the hype going on it'll be popular for a while, but after the hype it might not stay as a popular ride anymore, I actually spent about 5 hours in front of it during PNE to record how many people went onto the ride and see if there was any re-riders, and out of all the people I saw go onto that ride in those 5 hours, there was about 1000 people that went onto it, don't remember the exact ammount but that is a close number to how many people went onto it, 97% of the people who went onto it were younger kids, about between the ages of 5 and 8, the other 3 percent were teenagers and adults, and out of all the people that went onto it, about 40% of the young kids done a re-ride of it, and about 1/2% of the teenagers and adults that went onto it done rerides. So I'm really hoping it'll be popular for years to come because I don't want to see Playland go bankrupt.
  10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgN78K2k5qA&feature=feedu take a look at what I found on Youtube today. if you listen to the end of the clip it says now open, I heard they were going to test it for a while before opening it to the public, this is completely idiotic if they're opening it to the public now, any amusement park knows they need to test run it for at least a week just in case there's something wrong with the ride, that's not even 1 day of testing for this ride if they were barely even finishing up the ride yesterday. It says Atmosfear, the new ride, now open at Playland. If that's true then I say we should wait until the Grand Opening if it truly is running right now, I am definitely a dare devil, but I'm not going to go onto a ride that's never been through a test run of at least a while because there is so much that could go wrong with rides that haven't been tested before, especially with a ride like this one, there is so many inherent dangers with this ride that I wouldn't trust it without it being put through its paces for a while to see if there's anything that could go wrong with it.
  11. Looks good, let's hope they won't have a weight limit for it because I'd like to try it out but if they have the weight limit on it then I'll have to forego it for an insanely long time.
  12. Hey look! It's already taller than the Pirate Ship hopefully they'll get word from Funtime soon and they'll tell them whether or not they should have a bogus weight limit on it or not.
  13. I still don't have a clue why there'd be a weight limit for this ride really, I've talked to a lot of my friends that live in Europe and there's absolutely no weight limit for the exact same ride Playland is getting, why do you think Playland would enforce a 160 pound weight limit per person when the seats are stronger than the one's on the Wave Swinger?
  14. You'd think because the opening date is less than a month away that they'd want to push construction a lot more now but it looks like they've barely done anything to the ride in 2 weeks now. Also I was thinking that if they do plan on expanding the place they could get something like Tatsu from SFMM I went onto that one and it is amazing, we could have the tallest and fastest flying coaster and that would hopefully bring the crowds more than this ride will because it seems the only place that these rides are really popular is in Europe. Over here and in the US they don't seem to be that big of a deal really.
  15. Yeah probably, but there's not many places you can place them anyways without reducing the parking behind the Corkscrew. Or they could just demolish the Corkscrew altogether and get a more compact coaster like a Vekoma Deja Vu coaster in its place
  16. Yeah but I'm talking about the placement because that's right inside the Kids Playce at Playland which is an odd place to put that ride because of the fact that nobody under 48" is allowed on it.
  17. That's an odd place to put the Bumper Cars because you do need to be 48" to drive one of the cars by yourself. The again I remember they used to have a 36" height minimum for anyone under 48" to go on with an adult, I don't think they have that anymore though.
  18. Knowing Playland they might make it so that you need 2 people in the thing but I'm pretty sure they won't do that because then people could be waiting a long time to get onto the ride.
  19. So where exactly is the Bumper Cars? I know that's where they usually are but I haven't been there this year yet. Also I'm really hoping they don't have the same outlandish weight restrictions that WCA had for this exact ride at the PNE last year which was nobody over 160 pounds is allowed on it which is completely ridiculous because each of those chains can support something like 9000 pounds of force and there's going to be 4 chains on each seat for a total of 8 chains so there's no reason why a heavy person like me shouldn't be able to get onto it, and besides, take a look at the Wave Swinger, even when I was over 400 pounds I still got onto it, sure it's not as fast as the Star Flyer but it's still made with the exact same chains as the Star Flyer.
  20. Last time I checked this is only the 3rd Atmosfear ride in the world, the one at Morey's Pier and the one at Liseberg and now this one at Playland. Oh and it looks like Enterprise is still there which is good because that's the 3rd best flat ride they have there, next to Music Express and the Pirate Ship.
  21. Is it me or did they get rid of the Gladiator? That's where I remember that ride to be, and I can't see it anywhere in those photos, but I did notice an Enterprise car right in front of the Breakdance gate.
  22. I just found out that my homepark (Playland/PNE in Vancouver, BC, Canada) is getting a Starflyer ride and I remember last year they brought it to the Fair during August and a part of September and it was a resounding failure from what me and one of my friends who worked there saw, so naturally they needed to buy it and get a bigger one at 218 feet tall. Anyways I noticed last year during the PNE Fair was that they had a maximum weight of 320 lbs. for the 2 seater, they told me the maximum weight per seat is 160 lbs which doesn't seem right to me because even though it does go a little bit faster than the Wave Swinger ride: http://www.flatrides.com/Ride%20Index/ZiererWaveSwinger3.jpg it has the same chains as the Wave Swinger and I've heard those chains are rated to support upto 9000 lbs. so why would they have a weight limit of 160 lbs. for this ride when even if a 400 lb. man goes onto it and the G-Force is about 4.5 which would make the guy feel like he's 1800 lbs which is way less than what the chains are able to support?
  23. Ok thanks Robb, I have read through pretty much every post now and couldn't really find anything about the rides, they were more for hotels and beer prices.
  24. Got a question for you guys. I'm planning on going there maybe next year or the year after but I'd like to know if there's any weight restrictions for that Star Flyer? They had one at my local amusment park this year (PNE/Playland in Vancouver, BC, Canada) and the guy said that nobody over 200 pounds is allowed on it which seems ridiculous considering that they said it's supposed to be an adult thrillride because they had a 48" height minimum for it but other than that I'm hoping to get onto the other rides there. Also I know that I posted this before but I'd like to know how much I'd be needing to save up for my entire trip to Oktoberfest if I was going to stay there for 4 or 5 days and do nothing but go on the rides and eat some food because I don't actually drink any alcohol to begin with.
