Video TR: Cedar Point 2010
Invertalon replied to Invertalon's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks everybody! I look forward to getting a few days of footage next season with some unique perspectives to make a video unlike most. I have some great ideas, I just never got around to get the footage. Appreciate the comments though, glad you enjoy it. I should have a new photo TR in the next few weeks of Universal/IOA that I am excited about. Bring all the gear down with me! -
Video TR: Cedar Point 2010

You know, I have never seen those fountains NOT work the dozen or so times I went this season (and last season). If they don't work, its rare. Appreciate the compliments, thanks. I thought the song was different and had some aspects I liked for the video, and a length that I needed. It worked out pretty good. I shot this on my Canon 7D with a variety of lenses. -
I just wanted to share a video I completed, finally... Since school was out I had some time this morning to throw it together. It is nothing amazing, but I thought some would enjoy to see some CP during this offseason! It has some footage from the most magical moment I have had at CP, starlight in a crazy thunderstorm. My girlfriend and I were the only two in the entire starlight midway during the insane electrical storm. With the music and lights, it was incredible... Lighting was poor the day I took all this video, and planned to go back and get plenty more to work with at the end of the season. However, it was a HOT year and we ended up going to GL much more and never got back to getting more video. But yeah, harsh light with ugly skies. I also had limited rides recorded, hence the lack of variety. I recommend watching in 720/1080 full HD... Enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxGAEPN_NwM

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
Invertalon replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I am the same way... Maverick is aggressive, not rough. Well, sometimes at the end of the season it is, but in general... You really have to know how to brace for certain elements. If you are prepared, it is great fun. I love the workout I get on that ride... Too bad I am only good for a few laps before my head is about to explode. I would not mind the soft OTSR's though.. Make an awesome ride even better. I would not think the retrofit would cost that much. -

I never get why people are turned off by Peanut Butter and Jelly Pizza... It is the same as the sandwhich, except for bread you have pizza crust. All else is the same. No pizza sauce, cheese, anything. The pizza part makes it incredible! They usually melt the PB and pour it over the crust and place the jelly on top then throw it in the oven. Perfection! -

East Of Chicago > Chet and Matt's >>>>>>>>> Ci-Ci's Love me some Taco Pizza from East of Chicago *drool*. Incredible! I really do like Chet and Matt's as well, just not as much as EOC... Ci-Ci's though, gag. -

East of Chicago was nearly always open after CP closed for a few hours... I drove past at 11:30 a few times with a full dining room. They stayed open late. -

Many of the East of Chicago locations around Cleveland/Youngstown have closed up the past few months, even newer one. Me thinks business is not going so well for them. It's a shame, cause it always did well and was a great place to get stuffed for cheap by CP. I mean, it was like $20 even for two people, with drinks. And the pizza is miles better than Ci-Ci's (which is really, really nasty). I don't have the best of standards when it comes to pizza (hard for me to find one that is really bad), but they prob take the cake for worst. I prefer many frozen pizzas over them, for sure. The Peanut Butter and Jelly pizza they had is so awesome... My girlfriend usually ate at least 4 pieces of it each time we went. She is heartbroken over this news that it is closed. Too bad they are putting in a DQ, how weird. -

So wait, the East of Chicago outside the causeway is being replaced by DQ? Ugh... There goes the best place to eat out there. For that very easy I think my visits may dwindle even farther to CP... l I looked forward to that when we went. Nothing in the park is worthy (we all know this) with the exception of Famous Daves (which I LOVE but I go to my local one which does not have inflated prices, and they basically know me by name...) haha Sad day indeed... Sucks they closed it. -
Where in the World is Robb & Elissa???
Invertalon replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It is for sure in the USA... As indicated by the Southwest Airlines baggage counter (along with Jet Blue). It is not international. (if all these pictures indicate where you are and not where you are going). Although I am busy right now, if you narrow down the airports at which both Jetblue and Southwest fly in/out of, it should narrow it down quite a bit. Especially with Jet Blue. -
Here are a few from today taken with my new toy, the 70-200 f/2.8L II This lens is beastly, to say the least. Like the feel of this photo, a bit "gothic" My husky, Kobi

Statistic Factors
Invertalon replied to Raymond333's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Wheels make a great difference in speeds. You will notice during colder months at Cedar Point, they will use a higher ratio of Nylon wheels on Raptor to prevent rollbacks. Not only does it increase speed, but make the ride insanely LOUD. -
RCT4?

RCT 4... Really needs to go back to 2D IMO... Everything about RCT 3, terrible. -
Statistic Factors
Invertalon replied to Raymond333's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I appreciate your effort above, but your reasoning neglecting air resistance and friction make your post near pointless in terms of roller coasters, in which the three largest forces involved include gravity, friction and air resistance. You can not really eliminate these in discussion. Mass is that quantity that is dependent upon the inertia of an object. The more inertia that an object has, the more mass that it has. A more massive object has a greater tendency to resist changes in its state of motion (i.e. friction and wind resistance). The same reason if you launch a ping pong ball and bowling ball at the same angle and speed, the bowling ball with travel MUCH farther. Therefore, the heavier the train, the better the ability it has to overcome friction and other forces (such as air resistance). There are many factors that can make two identical coasters different in speed from the other... Weight of the train, total resistance in the "system" of the train (friction in wheel bearings, types of wheels used, air resistance, etc...) along with types of lubrication among other things. I305 could have better air-resistance, a greater train mass (they are different trains, after all) and a steeper drop which could lead to a quick ride. Many factors involved. Not to mention the ambient temperature (hotter air is less dense, less resistance... Cold air is more dense, more work is needed) The reason one may be faster than the other at given heights and speeds, is simply which has faster average velocity given track length. -
Photo TR: Six Flags over Texas

I checked the names on the helmet in one of my photos and it is Rolando... In that photo above, since it was cropped and such it is a bit harder to make out the name, but appears to begin with a J with a W in the middle of the name... Hmmm haha -

Here is a small photo TR from the few hours I was able to go this wonderful park... Rode Titan and Shockwave and took some pictures, very busy. We only had a few hours, but still enjoyed it greatly! We went down to Dallas because we had won a trip to visit the Southwest Airlines HQ for their large halloween party (pictures HERE!) so our time was short... And we had to make sure we made the Fort Worth Zoo and get some amazing BBQ down at the Stockyards... Crazy place! I was sad I did not get to ride the Mr Freeze, but the line was just too long... Oh well, maybe next time. Anyway, here are some photos... Enjoy! Comments always welcome. And there are still a few I didn't post over at my Flickr page, just click --> Here! -
Yep, that was me and her! It was a terrible day, especially when we only had a few hours to really do what we could. We had to cram quite a bit in our time down there. Park was insane crowd wise, but at least we still got to ride Titan, haha. It was the only thing I *really* wanted to ride. Not much else excited me and I am not a credit whore, so it doesn't bother me. Beautiful park though, wish I had more time (and less crowd). But wow, Texas Giant looks incredible... So jealous of that one! I should have some photos from this trip up later this week though, including some from the Southwest Headquarter Halloween Party we attended. It was such a blast, once and a lifetime experience that is for sure!

Was at SFoT today for the first time while on a trip we had won down to Dallas... The park was wonderful, clean and beautiful. I only rode Titan and Shockwave which were both O.K. Titan was exactly how I expected, fun but nothing to exciting and Shockwave was nothing like SFoG's Mindbender (which is much more fun). Park was very, very busy today though. We only stayed for a few hours before we headed over to the Fort Worth Zoo (incredible, more fun than SFOT... seriously!). Now on topic... Texas Giant looks incredible in person. It is sad it may be a LONG time before I get to ride it, but what a ride it will be for that park. Looks excellent. I really wish Mean Streak would get the same treatment. Hey Brandon R, I wonder if we ran by each other today by chance... I was walking around with a large camera (white lens). Tall, curley headed guy with my girlfriend. Saw plenty of people with camera's, but just wondering if one of them was you. Can't wait to see a POV of the new TG though.. Looks so good. Sadly, I never got to ride the original!
-
Yep, that is Olmsted Falls! Funny you live so close. My job route takes me right through the area and great northern once a week. We stopped by and loved it. Can't wait to go back again, beautiful park!

Some new photos I have, some fall goodness!

I am bummed this ride is not complete already... We just won a trip to Dallas Texas from Southwest Airlines (to go to their halloween HQ!) and will be in town a few days. We are stopping by SFOT, but sadly, there really are no rides that look all that exciting at this park besides Titan. Oh well. Hopefully the park is better then I expect! We got SFOG passes so it will be free for us to stop in, so thats good. This ride looks incredible. Wish it was ready
