I never said they were specifically instructed to do anything. "Acting under the direction of" could simply mean following whatever negligent policies and procedures they had established. You're reading way too far into the semantics of what I wrote. More often than not, the person who signs off on everything is going to be the one prosecuted. Unless it's a blatantly egregious act, where the individual was clearly acting on their own accord.

^ It's funny you say that, because Adventureland in Iowa has an operating staff of primarily people that appear to be of the "retired" variety in their 50s and 60s. They were doing a great job hauling ass to check restraints and such also when I was there last summer. I agree that it doesn't need to be teenagers doing those jobs. Also, very well said, Michael. -

^ Those reasons definitely make sense. It's a dog-eat-dog world out there now more than ever before, and having just a degree isn't good enough anymore. The market is so saturated with bachelors degrees now that kids need to have X amount of internships and experience under their belt also. There's also the technology aspect of things and the ability to make money from home. You see more and more kids doing app developing or web coding that pay a hell of a lot more than working at any grocery store or wherever. I don't blame these kids for doing that, rather than performing a manual labor-type job for 12+ hours a day. I just hope it doesn't have a detrimental effect on Cedar Point long term, and hopefully things will return to normal once schools let out. It's definitely been a strange start to the year. -

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that's a problem our grandchildren's grandchildren won't have even faced yet. -

I am sure its going to get blown out of proportion Yea, I'd bet money on it. They probably think an emergency stop on a lift hill is considered an "accident." -
Everything they did was under the supervision of upper management. As their superiors, they are ultimately responsible for the maintenance workers' actions. It doesn't matter if they were or weren't directly told, at the end of the day their superiors failed to properly supervise them, resulting in blatant negligence. The maintenance employees were charged with obstruction of justice for changing their stories and lying to law enforcement. That has nothing to do with repairing a mat or any of the other negligence charges. All they needed to do was tell the truth and they probably would've been fine.

^ The only issue with that is unless a federal or statewide agency "adopts" ATSM standards, they are only considered recommendations. They fall in the same vein as ANSI and the NFPA. I wish more companies were proactive with hiring outside consulting to ensure compliance, but sadly that's not the case. Usually when consulting companies are brought in for safety compliance assistance it's after the fact, when they've already been inspected by OSHA or had an accident. Often times it's even forced by OSHA to have their case abated. It doesn't surprise me with Schlitterbahn's track record that they never went above and beyond to ensure compliance.

I'm not sure what the requirements are for being state certified in Ohio, but the area was still getting significant snow only about a month ago. If nothing else, for that reason alone I've been giving CP the benefit of the doubt on most of the early season issues we've seen so far. -

I'm the same way. I was lucky enough to go to KD right when they decided to add trims down the entire first drop on I305. To this day I haven't been back and that's how I remember the ride. Luckily I was able to ride Skyrush before they slowed the lift hill. Changes are usually minor and don't really detract from the total experience a whole lot, but I still like to experience new coasters in their purest forms so I can remember them that way. -

A car drove into a utility pole. I mean... what do you want from them? We actually left yesterday around noon and saw them sweeping up debris from a concrete fence in the parking lot after a car plowed into that earlier. Nobody could drive at Cedar Point yesterday. Ah, gotcha. I want people to not drive like morons, but we both know that's not happening any time soon. At least we have Tony to debunk any false claims regarding that generator. I would highly recommend the reformatory for anyone into Shawshank, history, or ghost stories/hunts. I partook in a Viper rally there a few weeks ago and the place was awesome! -

Cedar Point is not having a great start to the year at all. I thought Sandusky just updated the infrastructure not too long ago to prevent that sort of thing? I also like how the first reply to that tweet 8 minutes later is someone from ABC News asking if they can use her tweet...such vultures! -

Sorry to be the debbie downer, but unfortunately this doesn't look like your typical CP/midwest pop up storms. Remnants of hurricanes and tropical storms moving north can linger over multiple days. I hope that's not the case and Alberto shifts course so it all works out. -

I think it's safe to say this behavior exists in every hobby. My other hobby is cars, and I see the types of people being described at meets all the time. -

^ As far as I know that's been around for a while, but it's probably gotten more frequent and noticeable due to the desire of every teen out there to snapchat every waking moment of their lives. -

I used to be HUGE on Millennium Force, hence the username, but all these new insane and out of control rides have changed my viewpoint on MF a bit throughout the years. Not necessarily for the worse, but now I appreciate it for its elegance and accentuation of speed and height, rather than being completely bonkers. -

I had the same mindset, one ride would've been enough if I got it, and anything more would be a bonus. That was all well and good until I actually got that one ride, then I needed more. -
That's not a far fetched thought. Structures in CA have to meet certain requirements due to earthquakes, but the last I saw, they were adding more wooden walkways to the side of the turn before the first drop. Yeah, it's not as crazy as an idea as people may think. As an example, I've seen entire construction projects come to a screeching halt while they wait for workers to complete their 24-hour competent person fall protection training. Not saying that's what the issue is here, but delays are sometimes more minor than people think.

It was just a windy day at the park. Actually it's funny you say that, the first thoughts through my head when walking through the front gate were, "good, Skyride is running, that's means the wind isn't bad." I'm enjoying reading everyone's take on SV! Here's mine! It gets better every time you ride it. We got a total of 3 yesterday after waiting about an hour each time. From what I could tell, the line stayed about the same all day, give or take. Kudos to that crew, they were hauling and making the best of a single train situation. Every coaster had their hiccups throughout the day, but I'd say that TTD and SV were among the most reliable for the day, ironically. It's just such nonstop balls to the wall insanity from start to finish. If you're on the taller side, the airtime can wreak havoc on your shins if you don't position your feet back about an inch or two, but it's easy to manage. I'm not much of a ranker past 10 or so, but I'd put SV at my number two, extremely close behind X2. I'd even consider them 1a and 1b, honestly. I'm excited to get back there in some warmer weather to take more laps on that thing. Just a random funny note also, at one point waiting in line they stopped the train on the lift hill because some douche had their phone out, and once everyone realized that's all it was, and not a breakdown, they started booing and chanting to kick them out! -

I'm at the park as well, and a few rides had some minor mechanical hiccups, but everything is just about a walk-on for the most part. They even had the gate on MF open to go back right into the station. SV had about a 30 minute hiccup this morning, but the wait has been about 60-90 min. That crew is definitely flying, kudos to them. The only major ride I haven't seen run at all is Rougarou.
