coastercraze2005 Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 Everything was perfect in the morning. We beat all of the traffic crowds on the Interstate 15 yesterday. The drive from here in San Diego to Las Vegas was only 4 1/2 hours from San Diego to Las Vegas. We leave at 7:00 AM and arrive towards Buffalo Bills at 11:30 AM. We find out the Desperado is closed due to windy conditions. Oh well. This was the #1 reason me and my family drove out there. We arrive at the Strip. Manhattan Express, Speed: The Ride and all the other major attractions outdoors are all closed. We never found out if the Canyon Blaster was operating or not. The windy conditions seriuosely affected our scheduled plan. We were supposed to get all of our rides on the Strip, but that didn't happen. Instead, we were looking for any attraction that was open. We were at the Texas Statiion for a few hours. At about 7:30 PM we arrived at Buffalo Bills. To our surprise, they were testing Desperado. By 8:15 PM, it was up and running where we just bought half day passes and rode it as much as we could until midnight. Here I am today. We just arrived. Overall, this trip didn't go as planned due to the bad weather conditions.
BelizeIt Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Hello Coastercraze2005, thats a long drive to strike out on all coasters. You left San Diego with your "Parents" and arrived in Nevada in 41/2 hours during a busy Memorial Day weekend??? Excellent timing, I must admit.... When you arrived in Nevada, not only was Desperado closed, but every other major Las Vegas Attraction was as well!??? Dam! That's some bad luck!!! When I visited Vegas a month ago, and eventhough it was windy, I was still able to ride Desperado, Speed, Insanity the Ride, X-Scream, and Big Shot, without any problems. Not to mention Canyon Blaster Etc...which usually isn't closed, due to the fact that it's located indoors. Maybe you and your parents might have better "Luck" on your next trip to Sin City!!!
gisco Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 ^ Give the kid a break. Lighten up! You must not travel much otherwise you would know that most people travel on Friday of Memorial Day Weekend. I just went from Fresno to San Luis Obispo and back on Saturday in 5 Hours. The roads are empty. The winds were bad this weekend. I don't know what they were like in Vegas but they would close the big coasters and if the coasters are closed due to winds the rides on top of the tower would be closed too. He never said that Canyon Blaster was closed, He said he never checked. Guess what, I went to Vegas last year to .......... ride the coasters, not gamble or do anything else. Lets see, I'm 45, married with 3 kids. That makes me a parent so I must be from Mars! Was there less then 24 hours. You don't take kids to Vegas if you want a romantic weekend. Driving 4-1/2 hours to Vegas is no different then driving 4-1/2 hours to a theme park for the day. I think what he said is all possible.
Mr Stratosphere Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 I can confirm this weekend was not the best to come out and ride the rides. The only place that was open was the Adventuredome Park that is indoors at Circus Circus. Stratosphere's rides were closed due to extreemely high winds. All outdoor rides were closed due to 50 + MPH winds.
