dragoncoaster1292 Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Okay, I am going to the Pocono's this summer, and I was wondering if there are any good parks nearby the town of Tamiment, where I am staying. I know there are such parks as Knoebels, Hersheypark and Dorney Park, but we (my family and I) were wondering if there were any other parks in southeast Pennsylvania, kind of like a place to knock off a cheap credit or two, a place that you can spend like, an hour or two at then go back to your resort and relax the rest of the day. Help is much appreciated!
DerekRx Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 The only other parks in southeast PA besides Hershey and Knoebels (which really aren't southeast) and Dorney is Dutch Wonderland (home of 2 coasters, a junior woodie and a kiddie, and Seasame Place, home of a roller skater. Other things to look at in the Pocono area is Great Wolf Lodge (though you have to stay there in order to go to the waterpark) and Pocono Play Park, home of a kiddie coaster and some go-carts.
dragoncoaster1292 Posted May 24, 2006 Author Posted May 24, 2006 Great, thanks! I'll have to remember to check out those places.
mtbiker99 Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Dorney is 1 hour, 10 minutes from Tamiment. Knoebels is 1 hour, 40 minutes. If you like water parks, Camel Beach (Camel Back Ski) outside Tannersville is very nice. Its only 35 minutes from Taniment.
Hercules Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Yeah that's really about it. There is nothing "near by". Like mentioned, Dorney is a little over an hour away. Just take Rt. 209 to 80 to 33 to 22 and you get there. I would say that Hershey and Dutch Wonderland are more in the range of 2 1/2 to 3 hours from there. You could actually get to a place called The Land of Make Believe in Hope, NJ in about 20-25 minutes. There is a small kiddie coaster there, some flats and a decent water park. It is mainly geared towards families and smaller children, but there is a "credit". Other than that, I really don't have anything for you. Tamiment gives me the shakes. I shot my worst score my senior year at their golf course and it almost cost me the scoring title. By the way, I was thinking more along the lines of coasters and since there aren't that many around, I'll give you a couple more options just for fun. There is a large golf course called Mountain Manor that has an area with an arcade, gofl carts, dune buggies, mini golf and bumper boats and batting cages if you want to go try that out. There is also Shawnee Place. It is really a kiddie kind of place, but I haven't been there in about 16 years, and I have heard they have really added to the place a lot. They have a water park (I believe) and other activities. I remember it being like a big Discover Zone, but outside. But basically, there are go-cart places all over and some mini golf places here and there. On the subject of mini golf, there is a kind of cool mini golf place on Rt. 209 called Adventure Golf. There is all kinds of crazy theming and stuff, and it is pretty much near a lot of decent restaurants. That might be something to consider checking out. Anyway, I'll stop rambling.
