Blue0ctane Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Robb, I was browsing your profile for some random reason that is irrelevant when I noticed that you were in six usergroups. You're the only member of "Chat Mods" and "Banned", and you're one of two members in "Members". Was this some long-forgotten experiment?
robbalvey Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Yeah, to be honest, I really don't understand exactly what "Usergroups" are in PHPBB or how they would be used. I think we have it set up ok for the UK Trip Members, but other than that, I don't really know how we would actually create another usergroup that would function within the boards. --Robb
Blue0ctane Posted May 20, 2006 Author Posted May 20, 2006 I think that they're just used for easier classification...like if you had an MLB forum, you might have a "Florida Marlins" usergroup where the Marlins players would join it. IIRC, phpBB's don't have permissions, while you can tweak with permissions to your desire on Invision.
SharkTums Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 ^If I recall, you used to be in one of those special user groups...but not anymore!
DenDen Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 Usergroups help you define which users can go in which forums. For example, if you wanted DVD buyers to go to an exclusive forum, you'd set up the forum so that usergroup "DVD buyers", admins, and moderators, then create a user group called "DVD buyers". Only those people in the above groups can access that particular forum.
robbalvey Posted May 21, 2006 Posted May 21, 2006 ^ Yeah, I guess the thing is, other than the moderators and the people going on the UK group, we don't really have any other specific "groups" nor do I think we really need them. The UK trip participants have their own "uber secret forum" because there is a lot of specific things to discuss and it's only for those people going on the trip. Outside of that, I really can't think of a good, useful "group" that the site would need. Any ideas? --Robb
coasterlover420 Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 -Singles group. lol -People-who-met-Robb group -People-who-hate-Robb group (aka: Banned) -People with pacemakers -People who have been in 4 states at once -People that dislike iPods -People who have a list (of anything (except coasters)....hmm......) -My group -The group for losers (aka: not my group) -The "special" group That's all I can think of (even if they aren't useful...)
