Hotels Near Universal Orlando

Hey Guys,

 

After my stint at Disney, My BF is coming over for just over a week. We're planning on spending our last few days back in Orlando and hes desperate to get to IOA n USF so we're planning on staying in that area. Can you reccommend any good, fairly cheap hotels in that area? Ive looked at a few in expedia, but just want to get a more "local" opinion.

 

Any help will be appreciated!

I used to go cheap on Orlando hotels, but I have given up on that after being burned too many times.

 

Last time, we stayed at the Hampton Inn right across the street from the Kirkman entrance and it was great. If I remember correctly, it was in the $80/night range, but you might get a better price if you book in advance.

 

Whatever you do, check out the reviews on Travelocity and TripAdvisor before booking anything. there is some real crap out there.

There's a Holiday Inn right across the street on Kirkman road, but rooms are from $80-$100. I've stayed at the Clarion Universal on Universal Blvd. and it was pretty nice, but it was in the $60-$80 range. I've done the Best Western Movieland at around $50 a night. The Best Western was a nice, no frills hotel. A Motel 6 is on American Way (about 1 mile away from Universal) that goes from $50-$60 a night. It was a pretty clean Motel 6, but like most of those in the chain, it was pretty no frilly.

 

If you use Hotwire, the Rodeway Inn on International Drive comes up for around $40 to $50 a night. Again, it's a no frills hotel.

 

Many hotels in the Universal area start at $50 a night.

 

I would avoid staying at any Days Inn in the Orlando area. From what I've heard, most of them are pretty skanky and ghetto!

I will also vouch for the Movieland (Best Western) Hotel on International Drive. It goes around the $50 range and it is clean.

 

Also, Wet and Wild is right across the street.

I will second the Movieland (Best Western) Hotel on International Drive. It was $50 a night, very clean, and is actually pretty nice. I stayed there for 4 nights last August and was impressed.

 

I wouldn't stay at Rodeway Inn if I were you. I've had horrible experiences with Rodeway Inns.

If you want to be a little risky, try Priceline.com. I've bid for a 1 star hotel at $25 a night. I've gotten the Days Inn Convention Center on I-Drive and the Extended Stay Plus on Westwood Drive (close to Sea World). The Days Inn was kind of skanky, but the Extended Stay was really nice! The room was pretty big with a kitchen, sofa, a bed, and a clean bathroom. The only thing about Extended Stays is that you only get weekly housekeeping, so you have to make your bed in the morning.

The only time that I ever went the Priceline route was after last years Epcot meetup. We ended up getting the Clarion (Behind Wet and Wild) for $60 on a holiday weekend.

 

It was pretty decent but not worth anything more than $60.

Country Inn and Suites, Microtel Inn, the Sleep Inn by Universal and the one by Sea World on Westwood Blvd. are hotels by Universal I consider to be inexpensive, pretty new and CLEAN, and I believe all have free breakfast.The Florida travel saver discount guide you find at some McDonalds has coupons for these hotels between $45-$65 depending on the season.
