The idea is that the forum owners can specify a certain value given for starting new posts, topics, polls etc. That can be something like 1 point per post, 3 points for a new topic. These points can also be deducted or awarded if the admins see it as appropriate to do so.

The points are used for buying stuff in a shop on the boards. That can be everything from usernames that glow, changes color, and similar. Some places, you can also change your own member title, disable flood controls, start an on-board gangster war, make lotteries, and even make your own sub-forum. Alternative ways for earning points can be provided, for instance, quizzes or forum games. The points are often used as a symbolic currency for trading services, eg. if someone makes a signature or avatar for someone.

I am absolutely clueless if phpBB have an optional store, but most of the major board software have it now. I hope that made a bit sense.

yeah, thats basically what i was trying to explain!

But i think it would add more fun to the forums. Also you could get points for helping other for stuff. Like making quizes, Finding stuff on the internet etc, and you get rewarded with points.

PHPBB does have a 'point' system for stuff like this. I've looked into it when I first started the boards, along with a gaming option that they offer. These are all things that will be in the 'future development' of the boards, but I kind of want to see how things go over the first few months. There are a lot of questions I want to answer since I'm brand new to boards...."How popular are the boards?" "What do people want to see added the most?" "Is PHPBB even the right board software to stick with long term" etc, etc.....

I'll keep adding features as time goes on and I'd really like to add a chat and 'game night' feature. I think those will go online as soon as I've found the right modules.

There is a chat module that I'm looking into now that would be PERFECT, but it's going to take some time until the coding is completed.

How you type that fast is beyond me... :?

If I may suggest a chat system, Coastersims.com's recent overhaul of their chat uses a type of software I've never seen before, but it works perfectly, allows huge capacity and is very stable. If you are interested, you could talk to RiderMayBail about it. He seems to be the guy in charge.

IMO, there should be just one more forum or two, cuz the numbers of active topics are numerous in each forum... Just more organization would help me find what topics I want to read...

^ When the time is right I'll send out an email to people to get an idea of what people like and dislike about the boards. Personally, I like fewer forums so it doesn't dilute the focus of the overall boards.

However, if it's needed, then we would do it. But I can honestly say that having seperate boards for different parks or park chains "Disney parks" "Six Flags Parks" etc is something we probably wouldn't do.

While doing my research, I've found that some of the most popular boards have as few as 1 forum for discussions.

It's simple, it's easy, and people know that if they want to discuss parks and coasters, they only need to look in one place.

Now, if we stated having more discussions about video games, politics, etc, then maybe I'd open up a forum for those, but then again, that's not what Theme Park Review is about.

I always say it will be something that will evolve over time. It's been a fairly sucessful forumla for the site overall, but I do want to get as much feedback from everyone as possible!

Robb all I would like is some better animated smileys and a waterpark board...

Oh and maybe some stars by my name... I like stars...

EDIT: Actually a chat feature would be cool. Although I am never sure how much that sort of thing would be used. I love IRC because of the way it can be used kinda passively just watching for messages. Plus I have a really damn sweet client for OSX

The boards seem to be very popular. Well, at weeweeslap.com there doesnt seem to much life. But here, every forum there are at least 15 new topics replied to when i come to these forums.

And as you were talking about few forums, i was on rct2.com and they have ALOT of forum sections. i used to go there but then i decided not to because it was too complicated to use.

If I recall right, you where also a bit too young to be there.

I think the forum is almost perfect as it is, you don't want to end up like RCT2.com having some 80 subforums. Keep it Simple!

Well, there are others that are 12 around there, i never go there anyway because its too confusing. Anyway, i got to like 2 other forums to, but this one i go to most. Its the best one.

Yeah, i think the simple look is better than all crowded with like 80 forums.

It is way too confusing. Sorry if i repeated myself again!
