WalrusMan Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Well, I'm quite new here, but have been around on other sites for a while. Anywhos, Just going to ask you Mr. Alvey, or whoever really, what your opinions are on the following coasters: Giant Dipper @ Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Hurricane @ Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Top Gun @ Paramount's Great America Demon @ Paramount's Great America Vortex @ Paramount's Great America Quicksilver Express @ Bonfonte Gardens Jason
robbalvey Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Giant Dipper @ Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - Very good. I think IMO it *might* be a little overrated by the locals, but still, it's probably the best wooden coaster in California. Hurricane @ Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - Your standard Windstorm model. Nothing spectacular. Top Gun @ Paramount's Great America - One of the best B&M inverts, IMO. It's only fault is that it's REALLY short. The end its great, though. Demon @ Paramount's Great America - Standard Arrow double loop, double corkscrew. IMO, this ride was better when it was Turn of the Century. Vortex @ Paramount's Great America - One of the roughest B&M coasters. You can tell this is an example of thier 'early' work. Quicksilver Express @ Bonfonte Gardens - Fun little family mine train. I really like this ride a lot! --Robb "Hope that helps!" Alvey
WalrusMan Posted March 16, 2005 Author Posted March 16, 2005 Wow quick response. On your Giant Dipper comment, I think that may be due to our selection around here. We got the Grizzly, Colossus, and Psyclone (and Ghostrider and Roar as well). I still think it's the best coaster I've ridden though lol. Did you actually ride it as Turn of the Century? I would have loved that!
SharkTums Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Giant Dipper @ Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - I don't understand the hype, I wasn't overly impressed. Hurricane @ Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - Eh, I've been on these in other places, nothing too special but still fun. Top Gun @ Paramount's Great America - I really like this one! It makes me black out every time I ride it! Short, but Sweet! Demon @ Paramount's Great America - Ouch, Arrow rides suck! Vortex @ Paramount's Great America - Ugh, evil old B&M standups...they hurt. Quicksilver Express @ Bonfonte Gardens - A really great mine train! It even has some airtime and rodents on it! Elissa "Bonfante rules!" Alvey
What Now Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Giant Dipper- A fun coaster. I think it's the best coaster in Nor Cal, but it's not the best damned coaster ever like the locals claim. Hurricane- I had more fun on this then I expected and it's the only Windstorm I've been on. Top Gun- The best Invert in the state, imo. Very intense. Demon- One of the better Arrrow loopers I've been on. Vortex- It would beat Riddler's (the only other Stand-Up I've been on) if it were smoother. Quicksilver Express- A very fun Mine Train and it's one the best Morgan coasters out there.
Angry_Gumball Posted March 17, 2005 Posted March 17, 2005 Giant Dipper is an excellent ride, one of the best woodies in the area with many pops of air toward the end along with some headchoppers Hurricane felt like one of those carnival coasters, yet it's still a fun ride. Top Gun...hmmm...Haven't rode it believe it or not. Last time I went to PGA was 4 years ago, was all ready to ride topgun but my friends didn't want to wait for it as it was a 2 hour+ line Demon also hasn't been ridden due to long lines. Almost was going to ride Vortex when I was 11 but I was too short by 2 inches (and scared). The line was actually shorter too! Haven't been to bonfante yet
