CoasterJunkie Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Ok, planning has begun for my upcoming summer road trip. Hubby and I have a wedding to go to in Philly and we plan to fly into Pittsburgh and do a massive amount of driving across the great state of PA. We already have plans to go to Cedar Point and Geuaga Lake, but are trying to see if we can work in Kennywood since we will be in Pittsburgh area to fly home. So my question. Is it doable in a day? This will be around June 30th or so. Also what other parks, are near Pittsburgh? We went to Hershey last year, so not really want to go there again...how far away is Knoebels? Thanks gang!
ltp74 Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 If you are going to be in Pittsburgh you don't want to miss Kennywood it's a great park and you will regret it if you don't go. The closest parks to Kennywood are a waterpark Sandcastle which is down the road a bit & Idlewild in Ligonier, PA which is about a hour drive away both parks are owned by Kennywood. Knoebels is northwest of Philly and about a 4 1/2 to 5 hour drive from Pittsburgh and out of the way for someone taking the easy way to Philly from Pittsburgh via the PA Turnpike.
CoasterFanatic Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 It is doable in a day at any time in the summer. Kennywood really doesn't follow the patterns that other parks do. The crowd level is really all over the place and has more to do with how many groups and picnics there are.
Dailey Enterprizes Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Yea, the peeps above me said it best. Kennywood is doable in a day and you don't have to worry about picnics around June 30th, well you don't have to worry about "big" picnics atleast. I accidently went on Penn Hills day last year, biggest mistake ever .
CoasterJunkie Posted January 21, 2006 Author Posted January 21, 2006 I am really hoping to try and squeeze in Knoebel's also. We are going to try to get a evening flight into Pittsburgh on a Thursday, then drive over toward the Philly area. We will have a whole Friday free. Besides eating Geno's steaks, we really have no big plan yet. Trying to talk DH into making the quick trip Knoebel's, or even taking the plunge, and going straight on to SGA. Its been so long, and El Toro will be calling. We just need to be back in Philly for Sat morning for a wedding.
