Angry_Gumball Posted October 26, 2005 Posted October 26, 2005 Well, today was the first rain we've had in months and as you know, the first rain makes the road ultra slick due to oil buildup. Everything was fine on my way to college this morning but on the way home is where the excitement begins. First off, I almost got rear-ended once again. The idiot behind me wasn't paying attention that I was stopping at a controlled rate and next thing I see in my mirror is a gold swaying car with the sound of screaching on a wet road. Odd coincidence that I'm studying Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as I experienced that at that moment. Next up, another car almost got rear-ended a few minutes later in a different area. Same case of not paying attention. And finally, 2 cars were losing it at the start of a green light so I waited until they got through the intersection. I'm glad I made it home in 1 piece and done driving for the day. In conclusion to this "On the way home from college TR" do not drive wet roads thinking they're dry.
4718 Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Just as bad in our area, except you get SUV's pitched sideways or hydroplaning at 70 because their kids are late for soccer practice.....and then watch the news that night to see that 4 million people got into wrecks because of the slight drizzle.
Real Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Driving Tip: Listen to that first part of his post. When the rain first hits the streets which are naturally covered with oil thats saturated into the blacktop it naturally beads up on top. this fresh coating of water is usually dismissed as being just wet but not dangerous. Ive found that alot of accidents Ive heard of came right as it started to rain when people drove like they thought it was dry. Same for when it ends. Most people drive defensivly when its raining so when it does happen its usually like the above - lack of paying attention. However Ive seen so many people nearly get hit or hit someone else right as it starts raining. I find that when the roads look not so much wet but just glossy that its probably a good idea to slow down. It doesnt take much to get it loose.
SLUSHIE Posted October 27, 2005 Posted October 27, 2005 Same here. I didn't notice anyone being stupid and sliding around though, except for me that is.
